NFL rookie rankings - Bush at 3 per CBS

CBS Sports has an update NFL rookie ranking out, with Devin Bush at #3 (he was #2 last week, but the Steelers had a bye week so obviously he dropped) and Winovich holding steady at #15.

They've had nick bosa at #1 for a while now. I don't follow NFL too closely, much less the 49ers. Has bosa been that good?

It looks like Bush, bosa, Josh Allen, Brian Burns are the top candidates for the various DROY awards so far, and Bush and bosa are in the mix for one of the many ROTY awards.

Please don't let yet ANOTHER bosa win DROY...

Interesting that the conference that doesnt have players as big or as fast as the vaunted SEC managed to have the #1 & #3 ranked NFL rookies somehow.

The big ten has always been fantastic as producing NFL talent.

The whole SEC dominance stems from BCS era 2006-2012 when the SEC won 7 consecutive BCS Titles.  That run of success can be boiled down to Urban Meyer and Tebow early, and then Saban since then.  Les Miles took Saban's former team LSU to a BCS title during Saban's first year at Alabama, but then Saban promptly took Miles' lunch money.  And in 2010 Gene Chizik paid 6 figures to get Cam Newton and Auburn won a BCS title then promptly fell back to earth.

From 2013 - Present the SEC (Saban) has only won 2 championships to everyone else's 4.

So my point is that non-Alabama SEC teams are vastly overrated and the whole SEC dominance is built on the back of the best coach in college football modern history.

SEC dominance has been the refrain through the aughts and early teens, but look at the other teams which have won BCS championships from 2013 onward. Clemson x2, Alabama x2, Florida State x1, and ohio state x1.

Aside from osu, the rest of still very much southern teams and fit the "southern dominance in college football" narrative.

But now you've moved the goal post.  "SEC Dominance" and "Southern Dominance" aren't the same...

The ACC is largely a "Southern Conference" eleven of its fourteen full members are south of the mason Dixon line.  (Only BC, Syracuse, Pitt, and non-football member ND are north of the mason Dixon line).  And yet nobody would argue that the ACC is dominant.

Clemson and FSU's success in recent years isn't projected on to the middle tier of the ACC like 'Bama and Florida's success is projected on to the middle tier of the SEC.

Gary is currently getting reps as a rotational LB/DL type. He has a bit of an uphill battle since GB signed two rush end/LB types in free agency. Both were lower usage but high grade players (more so with Z. Smith that P. Smith) who were rotational or part time starters the ravens and redskins.

So, he has two solid-to-good NFL vets who are finally getting the chance to start in front of him. I'm not sure why they decided to draft him to that position after that, but I guess you can never have too many good pass rushers. I expect that they will not continue to pay all three for more than a year or two and the odd man gets cut.

Gary had some shoulder stuff keep him out of the preseason, then I remember seeing him on the injury report with a knee or ankle issue so it's safe to say that he is behind a little. Seeing him get snaps against the lions and put of some stats otherwise tells me that he is the #3 rush end/LB and has a chance to work his way up to starter with enough production.

The link you provided gives the stats for both Bosa and Bush. 16 tackles - 4 sacks - 1 forced fumble for Bosa. Bush has 52 tackles - 1 sack - 3 pass deflections - 2 interceptions.

I am not sure why Bosa would be #1 against Bush's #3.

If you read any of the articles, it does say he's been incredibly disruptive and one of the leaders in QB pressure, top quartile with sacks, etc. The stats are not as shiny as those of Bush, but a DL's stats never are as great as an LB's. This is why I asked the question. It seems the consensus is that bosa has been all that. Must be having an incredible rookie season if he's doing better than Bush.

Bush: 53 tackles, 1 sack, 2 INTs, 4FR, 3TFL 1 TD

Bosa: 16 tackles, 4 sacks, 1FF, 1 FR, 8TFL

Bush has been better thus far

Nick Bosa started the season a little slow due to coming back from injury, but he was still a force... Now that N. Bosa has been healthy for a few weeks, he has been unstoppable/unblockable.

Last season, the 49ers defense was in the bottom half of the NFL, and some fans wanted DC Robert Saleh canned... Now with almost the exact same personnel + rookie Nick Bosa, the 49ers are ranked 2nd in the NFL in Total Defense, and Saleh has job security.
