New Years De-Tox Medicine - Clock strikes Midnight on OSU
This wasn't timed up - OSU's kick really did happen exactly when the clock struck midnight on the TV stream.
But TV has at least a 10 or 15 second delay - so when the kick happened in real time in Atlanta, it was still 2022.
But it is still glorious to watch/hear the OSU people completely deflated -

OMG, that is awesome.

Hopefully symbolic of the a new era, where their program fades into the abyss.

I was watching the time on my phone, all the guys wanted to watch the kick and women were pissed that we didnt switch it in time but it took a little bit of the sting from the loss.
January 1st, 2023 at 3:33 PM ^
Thats crazy!
This kick and not joining the family for the ball drop upstairs nearly ended my marriage last night.
January 1st, 2023 at 3:39 PM ^
My wife was certainly pissed.
January 1st, 2023 at 8:48 PM ^
Definitely seeing the upside to being single here. Like when my buddy said he couldn't buy a motorcycle and ride with me because his wife didn't think it was a good idea,
January 1st, 2023 at 6:54 PM ^
I didn't even make it to the party. After a little grumbling, my wife was okay since she knows me well and this wasn't exactly the first situation like this in the past 40 years,

I’m ashamed to admit it, but I actually felt for the OSU players last night. They played a great game and deserved to win. Stroud is a slinger. Fuck their fans though.
January 1st, 2023 at 3:41 PM ^
I definitely felt for the kicker. I also think it was our game that relit their pilot light. We pummeled them in a most humiliating way, two years in a row. That game last night was not the team we saw in November. A reminder to us when we think they're in the pantheon of untouchable teams: they're not.
January 1st, 2023 at 3:48 PM ^
Yeah, I felt bad for Ruggles, as I would for any kicker in that situation.
But the rest of 'em? Uh, no, fuck that noise.
January 1st, 2023 at 7:50 PM ^
I felt for Stroud. Never really liked him until last night. After losing his TE and then Harrison, Stroud carried Ohio State on his back, and it certainly wasn't his fault they lost. I think he was crying at the end, gotta respect his passion and heart.
January 1st, 2023 at 4:17 PM ^
It was very nice Stroud or Day refused to QB run against us. That team is so hard to defend if you add that element. Happy to see them be a national title level team and end the season with no hardware
January 1st, 2023 at 5:33 PM ^
Stroud is so accurate with the ball. He is a big kid that can run well.
If he adds that element to his game that combination is hard to stop.
It’s like he listened and learned after the Michigan loss. It’s good he is turning pro.
January 1st, 2023 at 6:37 PM ^
Happy to see them end the year on a 2 game losing streak to Michigan and a two game losing streak in the year. Taking a little sheen off that program is good for the game, just as no Alabama or Clemson in the playoffs is good for the game.

Last year we left the Orange Bowl in the middle of the 3rd Q. I was able to see the fireworks off the South Beach coast at midnight. Worked out rather well.
January 1st, 2023 at 3:49 PM ^
I saw the ball starting to drop but I switched with about 30 seconds left to see the kick. Ruggles is almost always good within 50 so I was shocked he missed. I heard there was a problem with the snap. OSU played a great game last night and despite the deflating loss it problem left their fans feeling better about the season than they did before the game started where we can't say that. Tough game for Stroud, Harrison, Stover and Ruggles who I have never seen act classless. Seeing Kirby after the game makes me feel a little bit bad for third base.

I was just glad they lost, and in heartbreaking fashion makes it even better.
The bell tolling midnight on them? That's just icing on the cake.
January 1st, 2023 at 4:52 PM ^
One kick was the most heartbreaking missed FG of 2022 AND 2023.
January 1st, 2023 at 8:21 PM ^
Not for everybody!
January 1st, 2023 at 4:58 PM ^
I had a mouthbreathing buckeye fan heckling me after we lost.... after they lost I get a text explaining how their loss was better bcuz they led all game as underdog... also said we played like shit & they played the best game of their season.
I agreed.....they played the best game of their season & it wasn't good enough, they still lost. We played poorly and still had a chance to win. We end the season as B1G Champions & they end on a 2 game losing streak....
January 1st, 2023 at 5:25 PM ^
Yup. They are hardwareless AND the game they stake everything on was a total butt kicking. At home.
It's a program with more questions than definite answers at this point as well. Each year Day takes it down his path winning nothing, equals a longer period to dig out when they cut bait.
You win or you lose big meaningful games. Bright line. Nobody but loser programs care about style points in a loss.

Extend Ryan Day! Lifetime contract!
January 1st, 2023 at 6:40 PM ^
All Ryan Day has to do is add QB runs to his playcall sheet. When he does that he'll be fine.

Sounds like Ohio lost with dignity. Maybe they can get some lessons in that department from the masters in East Lansing.

SIAP, from yesterday morning's WSJ:
Ohio State Football and the Agony of Being 11-1
Why are Buckeyes fans feeling angst despite reaching the College Football Playoff? Because a loss to Michigan obliterates everything else.
It's behind a paywall, Here's the lede:
For most college football fan bases, Ohio State’s 2022 season would be a Technicolor dream: an 11-1 record, a Heisman Trophy finalist quarterback, an upcoming semifinal matchup with No. 1 Georgia in the College Football Playoff.
Ohio State’s faithful, however, are not like most fan bases.
Though many Buckeye fans are eager to watch quarterback C.J. Stroud lead the nation’s second-highest scoring offense against the defending national champion Bulldogs on New Year’s Eve, others are still seething over Ohio State’s 45-23 home loss to Michigan a month ago.

Didn’t know they lost like that. Nice!
January 2nd, 2023 at 7:30 AM ^
OSU played a hell of a game and absolutely shocked me. I’ll never feel bad for anyone on that team suffering a loss, but Day and his team really showed something. I for one am glad Strouds gone.

I was watching on my phone while watching the ball drop in downtown Knoxville. Because of FuboTV’s infamous 3-4 minute delay, I didn’t know the timing of the kick until well after midnight. I heard about the timing of it and although cool and all, still sucks we face planted versus TCU.
