Name to Know: 2021 CB Maxwell Hairston

The Ja'Den McBurrows commitment might slow things down a little bit for this guy, but if you're interested in recruiting, you may want to familiarize yourself with West Bloomfield (MI) West Bloomfield corner Maxwell Hairston. He's a long, lanky corner at 6'1" and 175 lbs. and compares favorably to Vincent Gray, IMO. He's a 3-star, the #92 cornerback, and #1107 overall. He has offers from Arkansas, Maryland, Ole Miss, and West Virginia.

West Bloomfield is pumping out kids left and right, including 2021 RB Donovan Edwards, a couple 2020 signees, and a bunch of other talented kids. I would not be surprised to see Michigan extend an offer to Hairston at some point.

Hairston's length is intriguing, and he has good hips and decent speed. He's not super physical right now (either in coverage or tackling), so that might be a bit of a sticking point. But you might want to keep your eye on him as the 2021 class moves along.

They're different kinds of players likely headed for different positions. I see McBurrows as more of a slot guy, whereas Hairston is an outside guy.

McBurrows has higher upside to be a playmaker, and he won't be in the same boat as Lavert Hill, where a lack of physicality hurt him.

Hairston is one of those guys who could come in to Michigan (or another school) and be just fine, but I don't think he's going to be a top-of-the-line corner/playmaker because he lacks elite instincts.

Honestly, TTB's comment section kinda sucks. I like to interact with people. I get traffic over at TTB, but a lot of times, it's like I'm talking to myself. There are a whole lot of lurkers.

I would post some of this stuff on the message board, but nobody reads/comments. And if I post it on the main page, it bumps down long-form stories.

If I can give feedback on that, I don't visit as often as I otherwise would because the design is not good (I know MGoBlog has problems as well!). Your re-design improved things, but it still is a bit hard to interact with and readily browse.

Beyond that, more than once I have gotten virus warnings (I know you have worked on that).

Perhaps when/if you have some time (e.g., if there's not a fall HS football season...) you could switch to something else from Wix or SquareSpace and also use Disqus for comments (which allows commenters to not have to create a separate account, and -- more importantly -- perma-block posters who they don't consider useful).

I get that. The new site is almost five years old now. It's not a terrible idea to re-design, but it costs money and I'm too dumb to do it myself. I don't really have the cash to shell out for a new site. (Well, I do, but there are other life goals I want to achieve with that money.) Also, ad revenue has gone to s*** over the past couple years, so I actually make less off the site in year 12 than I did in probably years 4-10.

The Disqus thing is/has been an option I've considered.

Thanks for the feedback.

He has not even been offered, and yet I fully expect this thread to elicit numerous "THREE STARZZ OH NOOOOOSSSSS!!!!!"

Let’s get more 3 star kids while osu keeps piling on the 5 star kids. Harbaugh has to get better at recruiting those kids. He let his best recruiter go to the sec. I still think he needs to hire Mike Hart as our running back coach. I know that will never happen. That is just another reason I’m getting tired of Harbaugh. He is to stubborn. I’m not even looking forward to the season. I know we will struggle in the road games and lose a few and then get blasted by osu. It happens every year.

Hairston has been on my radar, and I wouldn't hate offering and accepting his commitment. His press coverage is pretty good for a kid with his rating, and like you said, he's long and looks more athletic than Gray.

The Edwards connection is also a plus, along with just the general WB pipeline. Tatum and Williams look like players there in the next class too. I definitely don't hate the idea of making WB the new Cass (their program is already better than Cass anyways).
