That 11 am local time kickoff is brutal for students and for tailgating.
Sucks to be them.
Camp Randall doesn't fill up until halftime. They party way longer than Michigan fans do prior to games.
I thought Wisconsin had the best fans in the history of fandom. How could they not be primed and ready??
shedding all that cheese first thing in the morning takes time. And in Wiskonsin...it's 11 am local right?
Wisconsin fans --- I've been to Camp Randall a few times and they just seem to be (relative to other B1G fans) more about the party than the football.
In 2013, PSU played there. Wisconsin was going to the BCS (Orange Bowl) with a win but was down 24-14 after 3 Quarters. Down but not out, and the game had high stakes. They did the Jump Around and then, no exaggeration, 15-20% of the stadium left! It wasn't like the weather was bad either.
Camp Randall, though, remains the only stadium I've seen where RC Cola has pouring rights. I don't know if that's changed, but that was unique (I actually like RC Cola).
Unfortunately they ditched RC for Pepsi products.
I'm always on board with away games being at noon. Was hoping Iowa would have been at 330.
330 games are the worst. I much prefer a noon game, that way the game can start on time without having to wait for some noon game to finish. Half the time when they play at 330 DVR recording gets screwed up and I miss a good chunk of the first quarter.
You aren't wrong. Lucky for me my kid isn't old enough yet to have Saturday activities to where I have to DVR games to watch later.
You just made me very happy... Have to go to a wedding on Iowa game day, so I assumed it would end up being a 3:30 or night game
Aren't our homecoming games almost always noon?
That's ass, I was hoping we'd play Iowa at night here for once.
This will get buried but NF, you think our game against you will be night/white?
Also looks like either ND or Sparty or both will be night games!
welcome week bout to turn upppp
Sucks because Michigan is now competing with the marquee opening week night games, however I'm now still able to enjoy one of the last summer weekends getting things done, and will be excited to watch game 1 at night.
Only solace I have for competing with the marquee games is that they are pretty lackluster on paper this year outside of Auburn/Oregon.
The marquee match ups are few and far between this year and they are spread through out the whole week. With no NFL to compete with and with Labor day being that Monday, there will be games on Thrusday - Monday.
I personally like night games, especially now that I live here permanently. The energy in the stadium during night games is above and beyond noon kickoffs, and even my girlfriend loves going to night games. See you in The Big House 8/31!
As a student who is supposed to love night games because we have all day to drink and party, allow me to say fuck this. Michigan Stadium night games should be for rivals and I guess Minnesota sometimes? Not Middle Tennessee State. Unless we're honoring their 2016 basketball team at halftime, I don't want this to be a night game.
I'm all for honoring their 2016 basketball team! That's and amazing idea!
Eeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow, nothing better than a season opening night game against a traditional powerhouse rival, SWEET!!!
/fu btn
....why?
Cool. Will probably be a bit cooler by night time, and that opening weekend can be brutally hot and tough on the players.
Night games are just part of the college football experience now. It is what it is.
The outrage against night games is just a dying remnant of the 'old guard' way at Michigan. Tons of teams play night games (I feel like LSU plays most of their games at night) and it's cool for players, fans, and croots. No one is up in arms when the basketball team or hockey team plays on a Saturday night...so I think we'll live if football does
I wonder if it actually helps attract more younger people who might not want to show up on time/at all for a non-conference cupcake. I was never considering coming to the season opener this year, but now that it's at night I'm strongly considering it. The night atmosphere might be enough to convince me to travel a few hours.
I may actually want to go to this knowing I won't be dying of heat stroke midway into the second quarter. I know everyone is going to kvetch about "tradition", but no one should be in the stadium when its 110° in the bowl and 100% humidity.
Agreed. From a sitting in the stands perspective having a 8/31 game at night beats a 10/31 game at night. Otherwise I love noon games at home so I can get home to watch the other games.
I don't believe you have to have a major opponent to be a night game. I'd rather have night games when it is hot and day games when it is cold.
Rather have Army at night. Those guys do more before 7am than most people do all day so they gotta be tuckered out around halftime.
So you're saying you're concerned about the Army game?
Hugely. Was thinking about starting a new thread specifically about my concern for that game......
phew. Good thing I checked the MGoBoard archive to find out someone else shares my concern.
Well, that's going to be an interesting birthday present for me.
Honestly, I think I am okay with this. I don't know the rules exactly, but will this get us out of a night game on BTN to be named later? For example, if I can free up an open night when Michigan plays Rutgers I am all for it. I am excited for the first week of college football regardless of who Michigan plays so I'd rather watch a roll over night game on the opening weekend than have to watch Rutgers at 8 PM later.
Wow... must be a lot of other matchups that evening if it's not on a major network.
Or... we've garnered that much respect LOL.
How does this affect the ND? Are we still thinking that it's going to be a night game?
As part of the MTSU payout can we lend them a graphic designer?
i think we start a 'gofundme' to buy a prosthetic leg for #12 here. poor guy. i bet that hurt.
Better yet, gofundme for a graphics guy.
The MGoBoard hiring MTSU a full time creative because we were disappointed in their Michigan game time announcement graphic would be peak Money Cannon.
I laughed. Put me down for $10.
And we thought Shaquem Griffin had a great story!
He doesn't need it, his arm and leg are the same in one.
The only redeeming aspect here is at least it will be cooler.
Lol
well hey, at least it’s gonna be early when the weather is still on the hot side. I don’t hate it actually. Just kinda odd.
Kills the “save the night games for big games only” crowd
I actually try to stay away from games in Aug/Sept because of how hot it can be. I remember when i first started going to games in middle school. My dad takes me to see WMU. It's 95 degrees that day and people are dropping in the stands like flies. Had to drop a ton of money on the $6 (1oz) waters at concessions.
Good. We need/should want more night games. Why some of you fine people think "only worthy opponents" should be night games makes absolutely no sense to me.
Why do we need more night games?
For the croots! Kids love night games. Quit being an old fart.
Despite my comment to your earlier post, which was 100% in jest, I agree entirely. SMU last year was uncomfortable, to say the least.
I wouldn't mind mostly night games until November.
