MSU special teams
Early in the season, MSU seemed to really struggle with special teams, giving up a 100 yard kick return against WMU, a 49 yard kick return vs Oregon, and a 81 yard punt return vs Oregon. Since then they haven't given up any big returns but I would think special teams would be more of a story going into the game considering how well Michigan has done in that department so far.
Unfortunately, advanced ST stats don't come out until after this week, but Michigan should have a major advantage in that phase of the game. Would be great for the punt/kick block to finally get home or for Peppers to finally take one to the house.

More like MSU special ed...

Confused by the downvotes. They are largely morons. Even EL natives like Larry Page get the hell out of there for a real education. Special ed is the correct term here.

This place is quite PC, if you haven't learned that yet.

Note to self: no ridiculous, hyperbolic sarcasm.

Those are fine, as long as they don't actually offend someone and/or offend those who have no reason to be offended by your statement but like to make others feel bad about what they've done so as to feel a sense of superiority themselves.
You'll get the hang of it.

Use of words like "retard" etc don't sound very funny if you're a parent of a special needs child. I've struggled with my oldest daughter who's now an adult and still under our care. I don't want to be that guy. But...

I gotcha, and I apologize. Although I was joking there are lines not to cross, like "retard." I didnt actually know special ed was offensive to people. I'm sorry.

It's because Special Ed's your idol, the highest title, and numero uno. Also, he's kinda young, but his tongue speaks maturity. He's not a child -- he don't need nothing for security. There's much more I could add here, but maybe later cause my waiter made potato & alligator souffle`. To put it short, he's got it made -- so it's basically the opposite of Sparty.

Don't need advanced to know they are bad - their punt teams esp are bottom 10 in the country each.
Misc / Special Teams | Natl rank | Value
Blocked kicks Allowed | 120 | 3
Kickoff return defense | 71 | 21.5
Kickoffs returns | 86 | 20 | |
Net punting | 104 | 35 | |
Punt return defense | 119 | 16.1
Punt returns | 124 | 1 |

that is actually kind of stunning. It could be flukish and kind of circumstantial if 1 or 2 of those rankings were that bad but that is flat-out failing report card.
Why do I get the feeling that they are going to play their game of the year?

...suck. That is all.

Michigan has a strong advantage here. Taking a punt or kickoff to the house would blow the (figurative) roof off the place!
October 15th, 2015 at 4:12 PM ^
I'll actually be disappointed if he doesn't.
October 15th, 2015 at 4:21 PM ^
Might be an NW situation where he doesn't get a return because all the punts are short or go out of bounds.
October 15th, 2015 at 4:24 PM ^
I think he'll have a good chance Saturday. Mike Wilson from Sparty's 247 page did a Q&A on Michigan's board yesterday and said their punter has a very strong leg, but also tends to outkick the coverage leaving a lot of room for the returner to make a play. Also said he's not very consistent and has shanked a few.
October 15th, 2015 at 4:29 PM ^
Yep. Their punter averages nearly 50 but they net 35ish. Hence the awful ave in punt returns given up. They made an awful hire in Snyder from A&M to be their ST coach (along with LBs)

is a "strong word"?
And those deficiencies are all on the coach, brah.
October 15th, 2015 at 6:36 PM ^
I don't recall MSU having problems with those things prior to this season.
Coaches make bad hires sometimes. It happens.

Um, please don't say "puts the ball on the ground". Jabrill's diving fair catches already make me nervous enough.

Their FG kicking game has been pretty rough too, 5-9 on the season, with one banking in off the uprights. All his misses are from inside 40, and one inside 30, so it's not like it's just from attempting long kicks.

He called that play at an extremely risky down and distance, 4th and 13, if I recall, rather than go for a tying fieldgoal from 46 in overtime. And there should have been a delay of game called to boot. Just the start of Sparty's way too lucky run under Dantonio. I may very well lose my mind if they pull something like that off this weekend.
