MSU is investigating Sue Carter over a former relationship
In what seems like obvious retaliation, MSU has opened up an investigation into a relationship Sue Carter had with a student 25 years ago. Sue Carter is the one who resigned from a position last week saying she no longer had the heart or desire to support that administration.

Here is a response in the article from Carter.
“I am sorry for the harm she believes I caused in a consensual relationship 25 years ago when I was not her professor and we were at different universities,” she said in a statement. “While untoward, this was a legal, mutual, very short-term relationship. I am surprised that the Office of Institutional Equity would launch an investigation without the courtesy of informing me and then announcing publicly prior to gathering any information beyond her allegations. This is a knee-jerk reaction to an accusation from a troubled woman made over a quarter of a century later ...”

Such a pathetically obvious attempt to negate the comments of a critic by personally smearing her reputation is not going to do anything but engender more corrosive contempt by the media and everybody outside the cult-like atmosphere of East Lansing.
More specifically, it's hardly likely to dissuade Schuette or federal Title IX investigators. To the contrary, it will serve only to confirm their suspicions.

This sounds like retaliation by the MSU administration.

Fully agree. Also, Reality, Reality, Reality.
They could use an understanding of both.

Even the accuser isn't saying she was her professor -
"Ellen Fedon-Keyt, now 47, e-mailed the members of the athletic council on Saturday saying she was about 19 years old and an undergraduate student at Wayne State University when Carter, who was at one time her professor, befriended her and manipulated her into a sexual relationship"

I'd like to thank MSU for having the grit, patience and backbone to investigate this appalling incident for a quarter century and to have the bravery to publish their very thorough findings yesterday. I have to say that the team investigating this is certainly up to the standards of this guy, who happened to be in the middle of his run on the small screen when this incident happened:

Obvious retaliation is obvious.
It's like every move they make is intended to expose them as inept and corrupt.

Not to have inappropriate relationships? If they are your student or inferior in the workplace, don't have sex with them! It seems pretty cut and dry.

My comment is more towards this pattern we're seeing than Carter in particular. I don't get it.

I've been on this site a while and have always documented that I am a proud MSU graduate but lifelong Michigan fan. Sue Carter is a widely-respected professor at MSU and is considered to be a great mentor for young journalists. That doesn't mean that she necessarily did everything correctly, but I was not surprised to see her take a stand against the University. I hope they are fair to her. Not sure they will be

The RCMB basically endorses the retribution angle of this story: https://michiganstate.247sports.com/Board/93/Contents/Sue-Carter-is-now…
