The most Ann Arbor thing ever
This dude with the hair was sitting in front of us at the game, reading The Economist.
Also, shout out to Scanner Blue for stopping to chat. It's always nice to meet a fellow MGoBlogger.

Nothing like a bunch of empty seats down low, and the ones that are there are reading, real nice.

Playoffs? Playoffs?!

Rockin' the monohromatic jumpsuit like a boss.

That my friend, is VELOUR.
Go Blue.

That really is a disappointing crowd for a BIG opener.
Alot has changed in two years, hopefully Howard can right the bus.
He's definitely not trending towards job security.
It's early and things can change, but a few more weak recruiting classes will be fatal.

Ticket prices are really high for a team that hasn't sniffed the top 25 in a couple years. I know I've said it on here before, but FSU, when they were a top 25 team, you could get $12 general admission tickets to nearly any game. They also sold 3-game packs in assigned seats. We bought a pack of Duke, Louisville, and UNC for $75 six rows off the floor.
December 7th, 2023 at 1:10 AM ^
It has nothing to do with prices. The tickets are *sold*, they just aren’t *used*.
Athletics is trying promotions, reminders, emails, and texts to try to get the seats filled.

My bad.
December 6th, 2023 at 12:14 AM ^
If it was really the most AA thing ever, it would've been The New Yorker.
December 6th, 2023 at 12:21 AM ^
Unless he's an Econ professor.
December 6th, 2023 at 3:05 AM ^
I don’t think econ professors would read the Economist, which is written by young people willing to take a certain line anonymously.
December 6th, 2023 at 6:20 AM ^
The Economist: Boil a complex subject to one point then exaggerate said point.
December 6th, 2023 at 12:31 AM ^
I think you mean, Правда.
December 6th, 2023 at 12:55 AM ^
Pravda sounds about right The Daily Worker is also correct.
December 6th, 2023 at 3:26 AM ^
High Times.

The Onion?

Mother Jones
December 6th, 2023 at 11:13 AM ^
Maybe in years past, but I'd say now it would be the New Yorker.
December 6th, 2023 at 6:36 AM ^
Granta.
December 6th, 2023 at 11:08 AM ^
It all depends on his field. Social science? The Economist works. Liberal arts/humanities? New York Review of Books. The New Yorker is for scientists and doctors who want to seem cultured but don't know where to start.

At the OSU game a lady in front of me had a book she read the entire game. Did not stand at all. I do not understand, why go?
December 6th, 2023 at 12:21 AM ^
He did watch some of the game.
December 6th, 2023 at 8:05 AM ^
because her husband purchased two tickets and asked her to go.....
or to avoid him taking that one buddy that he stays out until 3am partying with after the game.
December 6th, 2023 at 8:30 AM ^
...or he planned to take his girlfriend, she found out and asked if she could come along then read a book the whole time to show him how much trouble he was in.
December 6th, 2023 at 9:02 AM ^
I still don’t understand. I have dated girls who don’t care about sports so I do not take them to games (especially one of the biggest regular season games in my lifetime) and if the girl does like sports I bring her along.
Seems pretty sad if a person can’t find someone to take to a game who doesn’t stay out until 3 am.
December 6th, 2023 at 9:15 AM ^
There was an older guy in front of us all season that would bring books and newspapers (both, in case he finished one or the other) to every game this season. He was by himself, so I really don't get why he was going.
December 6th, 2023 at 1:43 PM ^
Well, if I was looking for a nice place where I have 20+ long interruptions of idle time to catch up on my reading between short bursts of action, I would go to a college football game.

Probably married
(feel a bit uncomfortable making this joke as an unmarried person)

So she could check off the "I did it for hubby so now he owes ME" checklist. Guaranteed.
December 6th, 2023 at 9:51 AM ^
What book was it?? Don't leave us hanging on the details!!
December 6th, 2023 at 10:00 AM ^
That was no lady. It was Connor Stalions in disguise. That was no book. It was an iphone in disguise.
December 6th, 2023 at 12:21 AM ^
This is a throwback. In the days before Beilein, Crisler on MBB game day was one of the quietest and most peaceful places on campus, and it cost next to nothing to get in. I did a bit of studying there from time to time.

I was at a Northwestern/Michigan football game in Evanston a number of years ago and the lady sitting in front of me was knitting.
December 6th, 2023 at 12:34 AM ^
That's very Evanston. I lived there for 22 years.
December 6th, 2023 at 4:14 AM ^
VERY Evanston, lol. I lived on the Northside for 5 years, worked at Northwestern.
I bet she enjoyed herself as well.
Do you, homegirl, do you.
December 6th, 2023 at 8:50 AM ^
Was her name Rosie Greer?
December 6th, 2023 at 6:48 AM ^
Knitting at a football game is just ridiculous. Stay home.
December 6th, 2023 at 8:17 AM ^
Honestly there is so much downtime between plays, commercials, etc. , knitting seems like a great way to pass that time and easier to keep track of than a book.
December 6th, 2023 at 8:44 AM ^
For the love of god, you're not gonna convince me knitting is appropriate at a football game. Stay home and knit...go to a cafe and knit...go to a park and knit. Football stadium is not a venue for knitting. And who are her companions that's allowing this behavior? My mother loves to knit. But, if she ever tries to bring her knitting kit to a football game, she's staying home. Period. It's not normal.

How does she get knitting needles through security?
December 6th, 2023 at 11:30 AM ^
That was my first thought. She would have never gotten then through security at the big house let alone the bag with her knitting yarn.
December 6th, 2023 at 8:06 AM ^
There was a legendary grandma, Red Wing season ticket holder, who knitted at every Red Wings home game.... she was often shown on the big screen. I'm sure she's since passed away or she'd probably be well over 100 by now.
December 6th, 2023 at 9:58 AM ^
Came to post the same thing. Her name was Margaret Molnar know as the “Red Wings Knitting Lady”. She passed Christmas Eve in 2008 at 86 years old.
You do you, at least you're there.
December 6th, 2023 at 11:26 AM ^
Knitting at a football game? Sounds like a yarn to me.
I'll show myself out ...
December 6th, 2023 at 11:43 AM ^
Here's my receipt:
December 6th, 2023 at 3:34 PM ^
How do you get in with huge needles?
December 6th, 2023 at 12:23 AM ^
More fun than watching the game.
December 6th, 2023 at 12:26 AM ^
Sadly I get it. And I love this post.
