The morning after and the way forward

Submitted by The Mad Hatter on

I, like all of you, am bitterly disappointed with the results of last night's game. Also a little hungover.

Before the season began, many of us were predicting a rebuilding year, with somewhere in the neighborhood of 2-4 losses. As great as Bo, Mo, and Lloyd were, they all had years like this. Several in fact. The thing that made those seasons tolerable was beating OSU more often than not in November.

My question is, what is the path forward? Can we salvage anything this season, or do we start playing younger guys in anticipation of the future?

I think a coaching change, or changes, needs to be made on the offensive side. Jay is not qualified to coach RB's. Drevno's game plans have been awful. I'm not sure what Pep brings to the table, but we've regressed significantly from last season. Let's hope that Harbaugh sees what we're seeing and does what needs to be done at the end of the year.

One last thing. Get well soon Wilton Speight!

An offensive line guru. You bring in Greg Frey who is known for being a good O line coach. We are in year three. Why is the O line garbage still?!? Pep Hamilton is not working out either. The best thing to do I feel is fire Pep. Demote Drevno to strictly O line coach and or fire him. Then offer Jed Fisch the offensive coordinator job when Jim Mora gets fired after this season

It's troublesome because you can't really pinpoint one thing on the offense that you can say is the cause of everything. There are issues everywhere. The running backs have been missing holes and cutbacks. The offensive line, you would have thought would be on a path of destruction by now, given Harbaugh's track record. The quarterback play has been abysmal. The play calling has made no sense.

I'm not going to point fingers at any one thing. I do think some changes need to be made. I like Jay Harbaugh because he's a good recruiter but recruiting isn't the only thing that gets results. Drevno has a great track record, but he seemingly hasn't done much here. Pep Hamilton was good at Stanford, but his time in the NFL was less than great. Jim himself is not without blame either.

I'm not the expert here. I don't know what needs to change. I know that a change needs to take place. I hope Jim recognizes it. We are wasting some of the best defensive play of our lifetimes. It's upsetting.

But you can’t turn the ball over 5 times. Two were on very prOmising drives, say what you willl about the play calling, I wasn’t a fan either, but you can call all the fancy plays in the world but if your players give the other team 5 more tries... well. I thought we were a 10-2 team. Now I’m thinking 9-3 or 8-4, so I guess the experts were right ,2018 is really when it takes form. Yes I’m furious but Jim is the guy to take us there and I’m confident in that, he needs to find HIS qb.
