Mo Wagner Is an Actor Now
Mo Wagner has a significant role in the new Netflix movie called “Hustle” about an NBA Scout (Adam Sandler) seeking overseas talent. The movie is trending now on Netflix and has a star studded cast including Robert Duvall and NBA players such as Boban and Anthony Edwards. It is produced by Lebron James. Check it out!
I was going to post about this last night while watching the movie, but I figured it was already up. My wife gave me the 'ole "That's cool... 😏" when I got giddy saying, "Yo, that's Mo!"
Robert Duvall is still alive??
I’m serious, I had no idea.
It's actually pretty amazing how many people from "The Godfather" I and II are still around. Duvall, Pacino, Caan, DeNiro, Talia Shire, Diane Keaton, even Francis Ford Coppola.
And III...just watched a clip of Andy Garcia on Jimmy Kimmel. I had no idea that dude was part of the comedy club scene back in the day (more of an audience member than a comedian).
Duvall, Pacino, Caan, DeNiro, Talia Shire, Diane Keaton, even Francis Ford Coppola.
But not John Cazale. A fantastic actor who died so young.
He did things against the family. Never do that. He broke his brother's heart.
but he got stepped over!
He was smart. Not like everyone said, like dumb.
He’s smart and he wants respect!!!!!!
And thats why I love this blog.
(BTW, that scene is probably the most poignant in the whole Godfather series)
Arguably the best scene in cinematic history. Even the weather is perfect.
One other thing someone recently pointed out ---- Michael is on the left in that scene, Fredo on the right. In the background, there are snow-covered life rafts. Those tires are on the left, but not on the right.
All that napalm sniffing probably extended his life.
Smells like Victory
Yes, he's alive. But, I understand, unfortunately Keith Jackson is not.
What!?!?!? How has this not been posted on MGo?
I search the message board log and didn't see it mentioned. I am shocked.
Seriously, Duvall looked like he had one foot in the grave in Monster's Ball, and that was in 2001!
I've watched part of the movie thus far and it's well done. Sandler clearly cares about the material and is doing good work, and happy for Mo to get some screen time. I also don't have a massive distaste for LeBron James, so his involvement is, at worst, neutral for me.
Not to mention that people rarely pay attention to who produced a movie.
"Oh, no! Joe Schmo's the assistant executive producer! Damn. I really wanted to see that movie but NOT NOW!"
Also, James as "producer" probably means he put up some money OR lent his name as a favor to Sandler to attract funding and other support.
Exactly. The only producer that ever factors into my movie-going decision even a little is probably Jerry Bruckheimer. I know what I'm getting when I see he is the producer, and I appreciate it actually so I don't waste my money. No other producer I can think of affects whether I go see a movie or whether I eventually like it.
Yeah, I'm sure James' production company got involved because he's big into basketball-related media. Maybe he stopped by the set once or twice but I doubt much else.
Yeah, if he's backing good projects, more power to him. These guys learn as they go, and mostly play basketball--if we expect them to be experts on world affairs, etc., we're often likely to be disappointed. We're all a little confused about knowledge and celebrity. That doesn't mean when he's ignorant about China, whatever, that he shouldn't be called on it (though there's disinfo on both sides there). But I don't get the animus toward him from some sectors of the population.
I think you know why there is animus toward him.
Its because he's a superstar athlete who speaks his mind.
I agree that the Chinese government sucks ass and disagree with how LeBron handled the kerfuffle after the fact, but the context to Lebron's infamous tweet to Daryl Morey was that he was *in China* at the time, so you can understand why he reacted with such apprehension in that moment. It's also worth noting that Lebron's maladroit position on China is usually only brought up in the context of his advocacy for injustice towards Black people in America to discredit his (correct) statements there, which makes me suspect that many of his critics are equally apathetic about China's awful human rights records except when they can use it as a cudgel against Lebron.
The only thing he cares about China are his Nike sales, he does not care a DAMN about human rights, just his Nike royalties. No need to mince words and over-analyze his stance, he is just following the money.
I mean, that applies to the whole NBA and at least half of American companies, so let us at least not pretend that Lebron is a special kind of awful in that regard.
Wow, Duvall still acting? He must be over 90 now, good for him, I´ve always liked his acting.
91...looks and sounds good too.
I was in Georgetown a few months ago and I saw him walking down the street. I must have been staring because he smiled and said "Go Blue".
If you're an NBA fan you will love this movie. If you're not, my wife liked it so there is that.
The 2021-2022 Los Angeles Lakers was produced by Lebron James.
How did that turn out?
Huh?
I was talking about the Netflix movie, it was good. I had no idea Lebron had anything to do with it til this thread.
Concerning Lebron, I'm waiting for WD to weigh in on his opinion. ;)
I watched it. I would not call Wagner's role significant by any means. More than a standard cameo but only just.
Overall, it's an OK flick-- it's representative of Sandler's move to more of a straight actor who makes a few wisecracks but otherwise avoids anything along the lines of slapstick. I actually like him better in this kind of role than the blockbusters that he churned out in his heyday.
The real star was this Spanish kid Juancho Hernangomez, former 15th overall NBA draft pick who has had a mediocre 5-year journeyman career. No previous acting experience but he really comes across as a likable talent. His nemesis in the movie, played by former No.1 overall 2020 draft pick Anthony "Don't Call Me Goose" Edwards, also did a phenomenal job for a non-professional actor.
After watching Kevin James play Sean Payton in Home Team, I wouldn't mind seeing the both of them do a more serious movie together.
Agree. I would not describe his role as anything other than a cameo. 15 seconds of screen time.
I'm conflicted...
Like:
Mo, Ant, Duvall
Dislike:
Sandler, LeBron, Boban
I'm not sure if I should watch this or not!
Wait... Boban? Who doesn't love Boban? It's like not liking Georghe Muresan or Manute Bol.
Reminder that LeBron masquerades as a man of the people while bending to the will of his corrupt superiors. Will be skipping this, sorry Mo.
Go Mo !
I’ll definitely give it a shot. For anyone who thinks “ohhh great, Adam Sandler, an NBA movie with the same toilet humor I saw in his movies 25 years ago,” I’d encourage you to watch Uncut Gems. Will absolutely change your opinion on Sandler and his acting repertoire. Fantastic movie.
As for it being produced by LeBron, I really don’t care that it is, but I don’t watch the NBA so I’m not privy to any of his antics on the court. I don’t have a personal aversion to the league. Just never grew up with a hometown team.
If you don’t like LeBron, that’s fine, don’t watch it. But if you’re not watching it for socio-political reasons, I just hope you’ve already gone ahead and thrown out every product in your home that was made in China and you don’t work for a company that does business with China.
James involvement in the mostly invisible, other than he clearly pulled a lot of strings to get the NBA involved. Everything feels very authentic because all the people are real NBA people.
Movie was predictable but well done. Basketball scenes were pretty good, as everyone playing was a real player.
Worth a watch if you are a basketball fan.
Watching now. I'll let you know how it goes.
