Michigan women's basketball scores best recruit ever
Olivia Olson of Minnesota, ranked third in the ESPN recruiting rankings for 2024, committed to Michigan on Thursday (Sep. 8). She made the announcement on social media.
The 6-foot-1 point guard is entering her junior year at Benilde-St. Margaret’s H.S in Saint Louis Park, Minnesota
This would be the highest-ranked UM bball recruit ever (mens or womens)

Awesome congrats to her

KBA! KBA! KBA!
She is a great coach.

Congrats to the program, but you're wrong on the rating. While it may have been before the explosion of online ratings like ESPN and such, Chris Webber was considered by everyone to be the unanimous number one recruit in America in 1991.

ed: Correction to my previous post, OP said "mens or womens"...agree, that wouldn't be accurate.
MBB had Webber, who was unquestionably the #1 player in the country.
If we're talking since the birth of 247, I suppose this is accurate.
September 8th, 2022 at 5:37 PM ^
I realize Webber was a dude, but the OP said highest ranking recruit (Mens or Women's). Some how I commented and you corrected yourself at the same time.
September 8th, 2022 at 5:38 PM ^
I beat you so my mistake doesn't count. 🤪
September 8th, 2022 at 5:39 PM ^
OK you win!!!
September 8th, 2022 at 5:39 PM ^
Second highest though? Juwan was #4 correct?
September 8th, 2022 at 5:40 PM ^
Think so. Howard was 4 and I think Rose was 9. Heard a rumor once that if Robinson (Purdue) had known Web, Howard and Rose were all going to Michigan he would have also. Imagine that!
September 8th, 2022 at 5:42 PM ^
Ray Jackson, you lucky SOB.
September 8th, 2022 at 5:50 PM ^
WOW.....
September 8th, 2022 at 9:08 PM ^
Big Dog gave Purdue some bite. Fab 6 would have been undefeated.
September 8th, 2022 at 6:44 PM ^
Wasn’t Jerod Ward also the consensus #1 recruit when he came to UM?
September 8th, 2022 at 6:53 PM ^
Yes he was. I came here to say the same.
September 8th, 2022 at 10:53 PM ^
I came here to say the same [2]
Although I didn't know for sure, as Felipe Lopez received the most national attention that year and I wasn't familiar with any proper rankings at the time
September 8th, 2022 at 8:56 PM ^
Jerod Ward was #1.
September 9th, 2022 at 12:14 AM ^
* sigh *
September 8th, 2022 at 5:50 PM ^
It does not change the overall point but my recollection was that Webber and Glenn Robinson were generally considered as 1/2 with some listing Robinson first and some listing Webber. Bob Gibbons listed them both as 1 and each won some national player of the year honors. So I don't think it was unanimous for everyone FWIW.
September 8th, 2022 at 6:57 PM ^
Well, she’s the highest this week, so there’s that.
September 8th, 2022 at 5:52 PM ^
Yeah I left out the era thing, this is 247
Webber was ranked 1st by some services back in the day
Article addressed that but I didn't want to cut and paste the entire thing
September 8th, 2022 at 5:34 PM ^
Let's go! Keep coach in A2, she's killing it and should finish her career in maize and blue.
September 8th, 2022 at 8:07 PM ^
She is not going anywhere for at least 5 years. Her daughter is a good Lax player and just committed to UM
September 8th, 2022 at 5:39 PM ^
Awesome! Hope she lives up to the lofty ranking and becomes our version of Sue Bird... but taller.
September 8th, 2022 at 5:57 PM ^
He didn't turn out to be a stud at Michigan - but Jerod Ward was the #1 recruit in the nation in 1994. Naismith Player of the Year.
September 8th, 2022 at 6:47 PM ^
I read an article many years ago about coaches' experiences on the recruiting trail, and several mentioned that Jerod Ward was the best they'd ever seen. The kid could shoot threes with either hand. Stupid injuries.

Hello: Olivia Olson
September 8th, 2022 at 6:36 PM ^
The best part is her names start with O and she chose M!!!!!
September 8th, 2022 at 6:23 PM ^
This is a huge get for the program! Welcome to the family Olivia, you made a wise decision.
September 8th, 2022 at 6:56 PM ^
That's amaizing! Way to go, Coach KBA!
Our previously highest ranked WBB recruit: Laila Phelia, #28 (per article). Naz was only #58 (per ESPN).
September 9th, 2022 at 1:23 AM ^
Suffice to say Naz way outplayed her recruiting ranking.
But given what KBA has done the last few years, I'm really excited for where these elite recruits might be able to take us.
September 8th, 2022 at 7:01 PM ^
Sweet!!!
An epic start to the 2024 recruiting class!
Go Blue!!
September 8th, 2022 at 7:17 PM ^
Welcome Olivia, way to GoBlue!
September 8th, 2022 at 7:25 PM ^
HELL YEAH!!!
September 8th, 2022 at 7:35 PM ^
ESPN ranks the top 60 prospects for 2024, and Olson is the first player to commit, per that list. Michigan has three top-100 players committed for 2023, a sign that Michigan’s recruiting is reaching a new level following its recent on-court success.
KBA is building is a Final Four program.
September 9th, 2022 at 7:45 AM ^
The Michigan name recognition seems like it's starting to kick into high gear. So long as KBA keeps with the success of the last couple of years, her program could become a monster really quickly.
September 8th, 2022 at 9:23 PM ^
Huge pickup, and congrats to KBA for keeping the momentum going after a great season.
September 8th, 2022 at 9:50 PM ^
Weber was #1 I'm pretty sure, yes?
September 8th, 2022 at 9:53 PM ^
oh, man. KBA has been recruiting at a level just below the death star programs, with 2-3 top-100 recruits every year for a while now. love to see her cranking it up another notch.
olson shows as a long, active defender, a good handle with both hands, a confident jumper and ability to get to the basket with style.
it's all happening. final four bound.
September 8th, 2022 at 10:07 PM ^
Welcome O2
September 8th, 2022 at 10:42 PM ^
LFG!!
September 8th, 2022 at 11:07 PM ^
youngest daughter played against her in AAU ball this summer in a tournament in chicago.
September 9th, 2022 at 7:47 AM ^
How well did XM the Younger do? Is she KBA's next big target?
September 9th, 2022 at 9:33 AM ^
she is getting some D-1 followers/interest, but i'm guessing she's more of a D-II player? i wouldn't share that with her because of course like all parents i want her to excel to her limits, but if i'm trying to be objective that is where i see her. she got her first offer a few weeks back and that was cool.
September 9th, 2022 at 12:16 AM ^
so nice of her to commit on my birthday.
September 9th, 2022 at 6:07 AM ^
Happy Birthday!!
September 9th, 2022 at 7:47 AM ^
Nice humble brag - and Happy Birthday!
September 9th, 2022 at 9:11 AM ^
