In 1984, the men's team won the NIT (with the red, white, and blue ABA ball!).

It launched the rocket.

Over the next 10 years:

- 2 Big Ten Championships,

- 5 total Sweet Sixteens,

- 4 Total Elite Eights,

- 3 Final Fours,

- 3 National Championship games,

- and of course the National Championship.

Here's hoping the NIT banner can be the same kind of catalyst for the women's team.

As an FYI, Junior Katelynn Flaherty had 27 points in today's game giving her 2,019 on her career.  This makes her only the 2nd women's player in Michigan history to reach 2,000 points (7th in Michigan history period) and puts her 15 points away from being the highest scoring female player in Michigan history (Diane Dietz, 2,033).

Happy for those women, as this can be an important building block for the future. Coach KBA seems to be good at recruiting, maybe she can find and hire a great offensive- minded assistant who needs a resume-builder, even if only for a couple years, to fix our offense and help set up plays off clock stoppages.

Missing the tournament was a disappointment (and probably a mistake by the selection committee.)  But women's basketball hasn't had a lot of success in the past.  Hopefully this is a brick in the foundation of better days ahead.

Makes sense. I knew it was wrong because of the 26-25 in the "2nd OT"(i.e. 2nd half) not being the same. Even if it was something like 25-25, that would still be a crazy amount for an OT considering the next were 6 and 3 lol. Just didn't know the explanation. Thanks!

No banner for finishing 65th (were there play-in games for the NCAA?). Have standards, please. Trophy in case will be enough.

Uh....we currently have two MBB NIT banners. WBB has never won anything. This is a great thing.

Yeah? Student-athletes are proud of any game they win. Doesn't mean it's banner worthy. Should we put up something in Michigan Stadium if we win the Advocare Classic. Programs are judged on final fours, big ten championships and national titles. We could have won one more game, made the field and lost our first matchup and we wouldn't have had a banner for anything. See how silly this is. You want to hang a banner? Come back next year and beat MSU and win something that matters.

I don't even know why a basketball Final Four would deserve a banner. It has become more of a TV/ratings hype to include more programs. Kind of like hockey, with multiple Adams Conference, Western Conference, etc, banners in the arena. Please, just show me one for the Stanley Cup.

It is a very good accomplishment for an up-and-coming program. I've followed them as much as possible all year (thanks WD) and look forward to even better results next year. To look at things a different way, would we celebrate being rated the 69th best academic institution in the country?

that some people just have to shit in the punchbowl to make themselves feel big.

Sour, bitter, miserable assholes. I pity your children.
