Michigan will hang a Women's NIT banner
But where are the Muppets???
For the program. Any tournament championship is an accomplishment.
GO BLUE!!
A solid footing to build on for next year. Coming up: NCAA tourney soon.
In 1984, the men's team won the NIT (with the red, white, and blue ABA ball!).
It launched the rocket.
Over the next 10 years:
- 2 Big Ten Championships,
- 5 total Sweet Sixteens,
- 4 Total Elite Eights,
- 3 Final Fours,
- 3 National Championship games,
- and of course the National Championship.
Here's hoping the NIT banner can be the same kind of catalyst for the women's team.
Their first banner of any kind good to see. GO BLUE!!!
i agree
As an FYI, Junior Katelynn Flaherty had 27 points in today's game giving her 2,019 on her career. This makes her only the 2nd women's player in Michigan history to reach 2,000 points (7th in Michigan history period) and puts her 15 points away from being the highest scoring female player in Michigan history (Diane Dietz, 2,033).
Missing the tournament was a disappointment (and probably a mistake by the selection committee.) But women's basketball hasn't had a lot of success in the past. Hopefully this is a brick in the foundation of better days ahead.
Very exciting game!
Congrats to the ladies on a record 28 wins and an NIT championship.
Congrats Ladies.
Crisler currently has banners for the 1984 and 2004 NIT titles for the men. So I'd assume this will be commemorated as well.
An NIT banner doesn't mean anythingI bet the student-athletes who played disagree. Boo this man/woman, too.
Yeah? Student-athletes are proud of any game they win. Doesn't mean it's banner worthy. Should we put up something in Michigan Stadium if we win the Advocare Classic. Programs are judged on final fours, big ten championships and national titles. We could have won one more game, made the field and lost our first matchup and we wouldn't have had a banner for anything. See how silly this is. You want to hang a banner? Come back next year and beat MSU and win something that matters.
Foolish.
Source: 1984 NIT title that was followed by 2 B1G Championships and a National Championship just five years later.
Cant believe there hasnt been a thread about Bo birthday !!!
Hopefully this is a stepping stone to the NCAA tournament next year.
LET'S GO!
that some people just have to shit in the punchbowl to make themselves feel big.
Sour, bitter, miserable assholes. I pity your children.
