Michigan vs. PSU Hockey/Basketball Doubleheader at MSG- Getting tickets may be tricky

Article in the newspaper whose name we dare not say nor post the link to so here's the relevant info:

"The Michigan vs. Penn State basketball/hockey doubleheader at Madison Square Garden in New York sounded like a great idea for the Wolverines when it was announced last year. The basketball game will be at noon, the hockey game at 7 p.m. Jan. 30.And the Wolverines do not have to surrender home dates. But there's one minor challenge: Michigan fans will have to wait to get a crack at the tickets.

Penn State announced today that its season-ticket holders will get the first chance to purchase tickets in a private presale Monday. The general public gets accesss at 10 a.m. Wednesday. The phone number is: 800-NITTANY.According to the release, "ticket prices range from $65-$500 and include entrance for both games." The event is not currently listed for purchase on the Madison Square Garden website. This will be the first "Super Saturday" in a series of basketball/hockey doubleheaders for Big Ten schools -- once each year at the Garden through 2019. It's part of the buildup to the 2018 Big Ten basketball tournament at the venue."

So basically its like a Penn State home game and we don't get an "allotment".  I suspect we'll all be hunting this one down on StubHub.

Penn State should probably get first crack at the tickets, because they are the ones who gave up a home basketball game and a home hockey game.

It's not like they are going to sell more than a thousand tickets or so in this pre-sale; how many season ticket holders do they even have?  There will be plenty left over for Michigan fans.

But this pre-sale is only for season ticket holders.  Unless their NY/NJ/Philly alumni base has season tickets to Penn State basketball or hockey, which they don't, this pre-sale won't affect a Michigan fan's ability to get tickets on Wednesday.

Look at it this way . . . it will be a hell of a lot easier and cheaper for Michigan fans to see these games at MSG than it would be for them to travel to Happy Valley and see the games there.

The smart PSU fans will buy the tickets to resell to Michigan fans at a mark up because there are a ton of Michigan fans in the NYC area and the Michigan teams are better.

Im not seeing much of an issue. I know MSG will draw a lot of PSU fans that wouldnt otherwise go to these games but PSU basketball is garbage and they don't have a big hockey following yet. I suspect all my maize and blur brethren in NYC will be able to get seats fairly easily when all is said and done

Interesting....   I wonder if I should grab a couple tickets, or just keep an eye on SubHub as the event gets closer as suggested by the OP.

Have they announced how this is going to work?  Is there a ticket for each game / arena setup separately?  Presumably there are seats that exist for the basketball part on the floor that would not be there for hockey....   plus, people are going to want to leave during the changeover.

I have an extra pair of tickets for the hockey game on Saturday night. The tickets are in a Michigan Section (109), Row 20. Face value is $55. If you're interested, send me an email, kbchung8 at gmail.com.
