Michigan v. UCLA Open Thread
Mates,
Let's make our own thread for this one. Stupid 10:00 start time. We are 6 1/2 pt favorites, but to stay up this late we better win, and win big.
Go Blue!

Miss your last 8 shots and lose by 2 what do you expect!
March 31st, 2021 at 12:07 AM ^
Missed too many lay ups and put backs tonight in a low scoring dog fight. Great season.
March 31st, 2021 at 12:07 AM ^
Too bad we didn't have Jordan Poole for that last shot
March 31st, 2021 at 12:07 AM ^
Boy, I would love to have those free throws from the hook and hold flagrant about now.
Great season, tough ending. I hope Gonzaga beats them by 50.
March 31st, 2021 at 12:07 AM ^
Great season but man that was a terrible way to end it. We straight up peed down our collective leg.
March 31st, 2021 at 12:07 AM ^
Last 2 guys shooting the ball 2-17
March 31st, 2021 at 12:08 AM ^
0/8 down the stretch. Wooooooof
March 31st, 2021 at 12:08 AM ^
We played so tight all night long. Guys will learn from this, but shit this sucks.
March 31st, 2021 at 12:08 AM ^
We take three pointers when we need a two. Stupid
March 31st, 2021 at 12:08 AM ^
Didn't deserve to move on.
couldn't hit open shots...0-8 or 0-9 in the last 2 minutes?
I hope Gonzaga smokes them
March 31st, 2021 at 12:09 AM ^
Oh damn.
The whole team was just off tonight. It happens. They played a great tournament, without one of their best players. It’s ok.
March 31st, 2021 at 12:09 AM ^
Man screw you all. Great season, they came up short in the elite eight without one of their best players. Team was fun all year - go pound sand if you want to talk shit.
March 31st, 2021 at 12:21 AM ^
Seriously. I love mgoblog but man this place is miserable after a loss.
This was supposed to be a transition season. They won the B1G, pounded a number of top 10 teams, and made a run to the Elite 8. #1 class coming in. Michigan is becoming a destination hoops school. We lose one tough game and it’s a shit storm of negativity.
Whatever, man
March 31st, 2021 at 12:22 AM ^
they let one get away big time. a play in 11th seed.
March 31st, 2021 at 12:10 AM ^
Just a sour way to end the season. Especially knowing Sparty slappy's are aggressively masterbating over our loss right now.
March 31st, 2021 at 12:10 AM ^
What a choke job. Missed the last 8 shots. We definitely needed someone that has big game experience to take over at the end, but we didn't have anyone available.
If this was Franz's last game for Michigan, I couldn't think of a worse way to go out.
March 31st, 2021 at 12:10 AM ^
Went as far as this team could, need guards with size that can penetrate and get to the foul line and confident 3 point shooters.
March 31st, 2021 at 12:10 AM ^
Did not recognize that team tonight. That was not our game. We are a balanced attack and we made ourselves totally one dimensional by forcing everything into the post all night.
March 31st, 2021 at 12:24 AM ^
We thought it'd be an easy win.
March 31st, 2021 at 12:10 AM ^
Franz and Smith: combined 2 of 17 for 7 points... and they took all of the critical shots down the stretch.
March 31st, 2021 at 12:11 AM ^
Wagner and Brooks 4-18 from the floor and 0-5 from 3,
March 31st, 2021 at 12:12 AM ^
Tough way to lose. Free throws were bound to catch up to this team at some point. Even with a win we would need to play 10x better than that to keep Gonzaga within 20.

49 points says it all. UCLA gave us every possible opportunity to win and we couldn’t walk through the door. Two missed layups to take the lead and you can’t get a better look than Mike Smith had to win the game. And the Franz airball....geesh - followed by Eli’s unnecessarily off balanced rushed putback...ugh.
March 31st, 2021 at 12:12 AM ^
Wagner and Brooks 4-18 from the floor and 0-5 from 3,
Brown 3-5 with2/3 fro 3...
March 31st, 2021 at 12:13 AM ^
UCLA scrappy. Juzang was tremendous. Michigan had many, many missed lay ups and put backs, and many chances to win this game. Poor limited free throw shooting tonight as well. You only get so many chances to win.
Great season. Livers was missed. Brandon played very well. Looks like Gonzaga v Baylor in final.
March 31st, 2021 at 12:13 AM ^
We had one dawg in our active roster; Chaundee. And we missed 8 shots after he made one and he never touched it again. Reap what you sow
March 31st, 2021 at 12:14 AM ^
How many 3s did we attempt? 4? We really just tried to feed the post on every single play. Missed a dozen layups, missed free throws, etc. We did not deserve to advance based on that game.
March 31st, 2021 at 12:14 AM ^
At least we shutout the UCLA bench
March 31st, 2021 at 12:15 AM ^
The only bright side, we don't have to watch Gonzaga destroy Michigan in the final 4.
March 31st, 2021 at 12:16 AM ^
Love Juwan but baffled why down the stretch we didn’t go to Brown 3-5 or Johns Jr. 4-5 instead Smith 1-7 and Wagner 1-10 I mean numbers tell the story you go with the hot hand!
March 31st, 2021 at 12:26 AM ^
that wagner 3 down 1 point baffled me. drive to the damn rim and everyone crash the boards. good chance he gets fouled or he finds someone for a layup or putback.
March 31st, 2021 at 12:32 AM ^
Exactly with his size drive it played tentative all night on off other then Brown and Johns, we got a great recruiting class coming in we need a point guard with size to dribble dive get his shot or draw fouls.
March 31st, 2021 at 12:16 AM ^
Chaundee should have been on the floor the last 4 minutes. He was the only one who seemed up to the moment. The only one making big shots. But instead we got Mike Smith. Juwan blew it tonight.
March 31st, 2021 at 12:16 AM ^
Unbelievable shooting shit show. But, fortunate we made it this far without Livers. Proud of this team.
March 31st, 2021 at 12:17 AM ^
I'm in shock. Despite having been apprehensive. I really thought we were gonna pull it out.
March 31st, 2021 at 12:24 AM ^
Starting at 10pm didn't do them any favors. They looked out of sorts all game. 6-11 free throws. Not moving the ball.
Chaundee brown and John's were the 2 best players tonight and barely touched the ball.
Tough loss. At the beginning of the year if you said this team would win big ten outright and be playing to go to the final 4 you would have thought this season was a huge success and playing last several games without Livers.
They didn't play as the cohesive team we've seen so much this year and they don't have that alpha to take over games. They played hard and fought to the end.
Let's all be supportive and we may be upset that they lost but no-one is more upset then the players. They've put in so many hours to get to this point and for several their basketball days are probably over.
Dafuk you talking about? What an awful take
March 31st, 2021 at 12:24 AM ^
Disappointing loss with an off night. But that's how the tourney ends much of the time unless you win it all. Great season. Elite eight without their leading scorer (and elite defender).
Congrats to all the players.
March 31st, 2021 at 12:26 AM ^
EDIT: Just going to change this to say that I enjoyed watching this year, thanks to the players and coaches, and best of luck to all the guys.
March 31st, 2021 at 12:34 AM ^
I think it was terrible offense on both teams, watch how Gonzaga with size at the guard spots attack UCLA
March 31st, 2021 at 12:28 AM ^
Our "lottery pick" crushed it tonight.
March 31st, 2021 at 12:41 AM ^
Maybe at point forward? His 3 ball seems to have a slow and low release and men in the NBA will be same size and much quicker then he has faced in college. He'll be a nice rotation guy.
March 31st, 2021 at 12:32 AM ^
It seemed like momentum had really shifted. This is when we remember Trey... I will say, though, that this team did show spirit, clawing back like that: of that, can be proud.
