Michigan v. UCLA Open Thread

Mates,

Let's make our own thread for this one.  Stupid 10:00 start time.  We are 6 1/2 pt favorites, but to stay up this late we better win, and win big.

Go Blue!

Man screw you all. Great season, they came up short in the elite eight without one of their best players. Team was fun all year - go pound sand if you want to talk shit.

Seriously. I love mgoblog but man this place is miserable after a loss.

This was supposed to be a transition season. They won the B1G, pounded a number of top 10 teams, and made a run to the Elite 8. #1 class coming in. Michigan is becoming a destination hoops school. We lose one tough game and it’s a shit storm of negativity.

Whatever, man

What a choke job. Missed the last 8 shots. We definitely needed someone that has big game experience to take over at the end, but we didn't have anyone available.

If this was Franz's last game for Michigan, I couldn't think of a worse way to go out.

Went as far as this team could, need guards with size that can penetrate and get to the foul line and confident 3 point shooters.

Did not recognize that team tonight. That was not our game. We are a balanced attack and we made ourselves totally one dimensional by forcing everything into the post all night.

Tough way to lose. Free throws were bound to catch up to this team at some point. Even with a win we would need to play 10x better than that to keep Gonzaga within 20.

49 points says it all. UCLA gave us every possible opportunity to win and we couldn’t walk through the door. Two missed layups to take the lead and you can’t get a better look than Mike Smith had to win the game. And the Franz airball....geesh - followed by Eli’s unnecessarily off balanced rushed putback...ugh.

UCLA scrappy.  Juzang was tremendous.  Michigan had many, many missed lay ups and put backs, and many chances to win this game.  Poor limited free throw shooting tonight as well.  You only get so many chances to win.

Great season.   Livers was missed.   Brandon played very well.  Looks like Gonzaga v Baylor in final.

We had one dawg in our active roster; Chaundee. And we missed 8 shots after he made one and he never touched it again. Reap what you sow

How many 3s did we attempt? 4? We really just tried to feed the post on every single play. Missed a dozen layups, missed free throws, etc. We did not deserve to advance based on that game.

Love Juwan but baffled why down the stretch we didn’t go to Brown 3-5 or Johns Jr. 4-5 instead Smith 1-7 and Wagner 1-10 I mean numbers tell the story you go with the hot hand!

Chaundee should have been on the floor the last 4 minutes. He was the only one who seemed up to the moment. The only one making big shots. But instead we got Mike Smith. Juwan blew it tonight.

Starting at 10pm didn't do them any favors.  They looked out of sorts all game. 6-11 free throws.  Not moving the ball.

Chaundee brown and John's were the 2 best players tonight and barely touched the ball.

Tough loss. At the beginning of the year if you said this team would win big ten outright and be playing to go to the final 4 you would have thought this season was a huge success and playing last several games without Livers.

They didn't play as the cohesive team we've seen so much this year and they don't have that alpha to take over games. They played hard and fought to the end.

Let's all be supportive and we may be upset that they lost but no-one is more upset then the players. They've put in so many hours to get to this point and for several their basketball days are probably over.

Disappointing loss with an off night.  But that's how the tourney ends much of the time unless you win it all.  Great season.  Elite eight without their leading scorer (and elite defender).

Congrats to all the players.

EDIT:  Just going to change this to say that I enjoyed watching this year, thanks to the players and coaches, and best of luck to all the guys.

It seemed like momentum had really shifted. This is when we remember Trey... I will say, though, that this team did show spirit, clawing back like that: of that, can be proud.
