Michigan St fans doing #BoycottTheHeisman. But why?

Submitted by Ezekiels Creatures on December 6th, 2021 at 10:05 PM

As most here already know, there's lots of complaints from Michigan St fans over Aidan Hutchinson being a Heisman finalist but not Kenneth Walker lll.

Here's a link to a list of tweets to that effect:

https://sports.yahoo.com/look-michigan-state-football-fans-011919553.html?guccounter=1

A link to Spartan 247 message board complaints:

https://247sports.com/college/michigan-state/board/93/Contents/heisman-finalists-no-walker-177545250/?page=1

So a step beyond the complaints is a movement to "#BoycottTheHeisman".

At the link is a bunch of tweets for the boycott. https://twitter.com/search?q=%23BoycottTheHeisman&src=typeahead_click&f=top

But really, is there a case for Kenneth Walker lll to be a finalist? He came out blazing at the start of the season. But faded toward the end of the season. Heisman candidates should finish strong, shouldn't they?

So what is all the complaining from Michigan St fans all about? Because it looks like this:

Yeah, there's obvious reasons why all the talk of Walker for Heisman fell off. He became inconsequential in the Heisman debate in the last 4 games. But State fans will forever have their couch burning memories of the Michigan game.

Thank Tucker and his 6 Walker runs in the OSU game. Shit coaching thinking you cant run the ball and get same 7 they got throwing the ball. Still wonder why MSU coaches dont shit their pants against us like they do other teams. Anyway your head coach lost it for you @ OSU.

Very interesting.  It is clear that MSU fans think the Michigan game is everything...they just haven't figured out the rest of country doesn't see it that way.  Walker would have been there if he had continued to produce, had they not lost to Purdue and so emphatically to Ohio State.  That they act like it is so crazy that the best player in College football would be invited, says it all.  He will in all likelihood be drafted first in the first round for NFL, probably deserves to be a Heisman finalist.  Not to mention his PFF ratings.

He was #2 in the country in rushing yards per game.  I would have been fine with him being in the top 4.  As much as it shouldn't, your team getting repeatedly blown out tends to ruin your Heisman chances even if you weren't at fault for the blowout.

I have to say, I got a chuckle over the insane conspiracy theory floated by several posters over at RCMB that Hutchinson's Heisman invitation is the result of a nefarious Michigan PR campaign designed to discredit MSU. It was hatched in the hours after Michigan lost to MSU because Staee was getting positive press, and Walker's name was  being mentioned as a Heisman candidate. The primary purpose of this PR move was to make sure Walker didn't get invited to the Heisman ceremony,  thereby denying MSU positive press coverage.

I'm no Sparty fan, but the guy hung 5 tds on the 2nd best team in the country according to the polls (and potentially #1 at year end).  I think he's better than Stroud.  He isn't better than AH the mauler.

A lot of feelings here about a guy who is a marginal (3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th) Heisman candidate. It must be hard to go through life butthurt to butthurt like this.

It is a very subjective process, but that does not make Hutchinson less deserving because KW3 didn’t get an invitation. I wish They would have more diverse positions invited. Walker would have been a good invitation, but it’s far more interesting to see defensive players brought into the fold.

I've been boycotting People's sexiest man of the year contest since it started.  Never come close to winning and never will, so might as well tell the world I'm boycotting.  I have an older sister, so I  AM a little brother.

I’m impressed by their continual ability to flat out embarrass themselves day in and day out by acting like petulant children

Disrespek...Sparty fans are the most obnoxious group of people on planet Earth.  My family and I were watching a UM vs MSU game (in mixed company...both UM fans and MSU fans) and an ADULT sparty fan started screaming "In your face" to my 4 year old child when sharty scored a TD.

Tells you all that you need to know about the fan base.  They are so "Little Brother", that is the only way they know how to act.

I'm not sure why they are so hyper focused on UM other than the obvious hatred for them.  But, IMO Walker has a good case to be a Heisman finalist.  His biggest reason he's not IMO is the lack of success against OSU.  But, I don't see any reason why he's not a higher candidate based on numbers than Stroud.  Last I checked Walker was #2 in rushing yards, but Stroud was only #8 in passing yards.  Heismans are won on production in big games more so than production overall, and generally won by teams in the NC picture.  But, you can't have a bad game against your biggest opponent and win it.  But, they should be just as mad at Stroud as Hutchinson.

they are screaming for attention and trying to remain relevant plain and simple.

Walker is a great running back, BUT he was never really in serious Heisman consideration after having 4 sub 100 yard games including less than 30 yards in the OSU game.

he doesn't even lead the conference in rushing TDs

Hassan does with 20 (19 in regular season) so still more than Walkers 18

I wholly agree he was good enough to get the votes for an invite and should have received it, but to attempt to arrange a boycott is embarrassing. It’s not like the voting process is scientific. KW got injured and was less impressive as the year went by. His Heisman moment came in October against us, and the award is definitely biased toward big November moments.

Pitt QB is getting an invite because he faked a slide that was on every sports show. Aidan is getting in because he was on fire against OSU, his Heisman moment, in a game absolutely everybody watched. Young willed Bama over Auburn and then demolished Georgia. Stats are secondary to big, televised moments with the Heisman. Stroud is the only one getting the invite because of stats, largely carried by his receiving corp, and that’s because it is a de facto QB trophy. In the end, stats are important, but it’s often the big November moment that punches the ticket to New York.

He'll still get some hardware, but I love how the disciples of "No Excuses" Tucker are making excuses for the OSU game. Injured or not, his statline was *404 not found*.

I think he should've been there ahead of CJ Stroud. If there's anyone who shouldn't be there this weekend, it's him. Alabama, Michigan, MSU and Pitt would not be in their CFP/NY6 games without those guys going to NYC. Friggen Kyle McCord would've put up similar numbers if he had the chance. He did it against Akron.

was checking NFL mock drafts and Walker isn't even listed as a first round pick

guess Heisman folks aren't the only ones not impressed

Walker should be in NYC but let's not act like he's been some revelation at RB.  Jonathon Taylor averaged over 2k yards a year for his entire career at Wisconsin and never got an invite.  Sean Tucker is a freshman at Syracuse who has put up a similarly-impressive season and didn't get even a sniff.  Ford at Cincy has been great for Cincy.  Walker has been a fine but he trailed off as the season came to an end and so he's going to need to live with being the Doak Walker front-runner.

Also, funny to see MSU actively boycotting the Heisman Race - they've been inactively boycotting it for decades so not sure how much changes.

Heisman voters aren’t watching every game; they’re reading box scores and watching big games. They tuned in for MSU/Michigan, which vaulted Walker into the lead at that point. They also tuned in to MSU/OSU, and saw his team get absolutely bombed into oblivion. It’s likely most voters outside the Midwest didn’t watch another MSU game all year. So they saw one great performance and a disappearing act. That’s not Heisman worthy, the end.
