Michigan Rugby defeats Sparty 43-29
In a tight, physical encounter, the Wolverines defeated in-state rival MSU in front of a boisterous Mitchell Field crowd. The back-and-forth game featured five lead changes and was tied twice in the final quarter. Down 24-29 with 12 minutes to go, #8 Davis Grimm punched in a short-range try to tie the game. Five minutes later, inside center Jack Vecchio broke through and found a supporting Jordan Perez who was high tackled near the try line and Michigan was awarded a penalty try. Now up by seven and with a man advantage, the Maize and Blue pounded in a final try through loosehead prop Brandon Walter. Nate Feldman's conversion made the final score 43-29.
Tries were scored by Grimm (2), Perez, Sam Glasberg, and Walter. Feldman added four conversions and a penalty kick. The remaining seven points were tallied via the penalty try.
The team has only a few days to recover before traveling to Obetz, OH to play the Fighting Illini in the Big Ten 3rd-place match at 1pm Saturday. The team will provide some great bye-week viewing to kick-off Sparty week as the game will be broadcast on Eleven Sports, as I am sure you all learned all you need to know about rugby by watching the thrilling world cup that just concluded.

YEeeeeeesssss. Thanks for posting. The first game I ever played was against State and they were good as hell back then, beat our A-side that day. This is a good win.
Could you make another post for the Illinois game, as well? I would love to see it. I think a lot of alums would like to follow the team here on mgoblog. Thanks again.

Seconded. I played on the A-side my first match after being explained the rules over pints the night before because they needed warm bodies.
My how times have changed...

Congrats on the victory!
When did collegiate rugby switch to quarters/they don't play 40-min halves anymore? I played in college from '98-'04 (could play as grad student) and then on a men's side for a few years after that. Laughed at your recruiting story, as I recall being on the opposite side of that convo many a night haha.
Seconded on the "please provide recap of any subsequent games" comment!

It's definitely still 40min halves

A guy I worked with in the UK had played football at Dartmouth when he was at school there. We met some English rugby players in a pub. My co-worker was talking shit about his football experience at Dartmouth. The English invited him to join them playing rugby. He played once and said never again. It was too rough for him.

There's also mrugby.com and the olde boy email list. OP just copy-pasted the summary email from coach Trenary to post here. 11 Sports is included in most TV packages if you haven't cut the cord. Outside of that I'm not sure how you'd watch, but maybe just follow the link?

Correct. It was just a copy and paste from Coach Trenary's update email (I was not at the match). Sorry if I should have made that clear. There are not quarters in Rugby. Just 2 halves, but not uncommon to think about haves in terms of the first and second 20 minutes. I am not sure how to access the 11 sports, but it looks like it may have some app access through smart tvs. Hopefully, I figure it out by Saturday.

the quality of MSU athletics is steadily eroding. . . and well deserved.

I'm glad we changed Rugby into Football
I'm also glad we will have beaten MSU in both this year, soon enough
