Michigan opened -28 against Illinois

Submitted by FauxMo on

Already up to -34 on one book I saw. Um, yeah, at -28, lock of the year. I mean, based on the Rutgerz Transitive Property (RTP, that's TM), we should beat Illinois by 61, right? I have a feeling Illinois' coach is not going to be...feeling the..."Love" after next weekend...

I think we will win going away because we are way better and Illinois isn't good, and MSU isn't worth looking ahead to this year. But I'm terrified of that Indiana game because we could definitely get caught looking ahead, because no team is above that and even good teams can come out flat now and then

What's wromg with looking ahead if we're talking about looking past Rutgers, a bye, and Illinois? I trust coach to do whatever it takes to win every game,'and surely that means using a little of this time to prepare for the biggest challenges ahead. Using one week to prepare for Rutgers, two for Illinois, and one week for Ohio State sounds foolish. If you can't look ahead and still play your best on this Saturday you're not a championship team.

Rutgers and Illinois are not good teams. So even coming out flat against them (which we did against Rutgers) is not going to cost us the game.

You have a litmited amount of practice time. You can spend all of it pretending to take Illinois seriously, or almost all of it pretending to take Illinois seriously and a little bit of it preparing for Ohio State.

One of the things Coach is trying to instill in this team is the ability to not be flat for any opponent at any time. That's a challenge they don't want to fail on. I think we can trust the men on the team to respond like champions to this:

(a) We're going to spend a little time this week looking ahead to Ohio State, and

(b) Don't come out flat against Illinois.

If they can't do oth, the problem isn't that they lost a little momentum, it's that they're not trying hard enough.

Colorado is really the only game under Harbaugh where I felt we weren't ready to play at the get-go.  I don't think that was the case against IU or Minnesota last year.  In both games we jumped out to quick leads.

I think our bigger problem last year was that Durkin struggled to make halftime adjustments.  Our D had major trouble in the second halves of the Minn, IU and especially OSU games.  (The OSU game was 14-10 at half).

i think this team smells blood in the water after watching osu the past two weeks. i think you are going to see a hungry team that is going to go out and try to embarrass every opponent

Only town in the original Big 10 worse than Chambana is West Lafayette.  Why would any high schooler in their right mind go there when they can get to Madison or Ann Arbor or Iowa City in not too much more time than it takes to get down to Chambana.

I'd argue that the second and third teams are probably better for the second half of a blowout because they are still hungry for playing time and accomplishment.  The first team has made their point and is maybe even starting to feel bad for how outmatched the other team is.

Just go out and put up 4-5 TDS and put the game out of reach early - let a lot of the subs play and give more playing time to the sophmores and those freshmen who are already beyond the redshirt limit. You never know who might need to see game time in the future.

Is there a way to go into this game, as the players and NOT be focused on next week at MSU?! if this were a Lloyd Carr team I'd say this is the epitome of a trap game, and that we can't beat MSU this week so don't let them beat us. But I have faith in Harbaugh to keep the players up for this game.

Barring some really bad weather, I can't imagine us not covering.

I love that I can be this confident.  Under RR/Hoke this may have been a tight game.  Even under Lloyd we often let inferior teams hang around for awhile.  I like this Harbaugh fellow.

I expect the line to hit -40 by mid-week when they post it on Bovada.  And I'll swallow the points in a hearbeat.  And I expect a very vanilla game plan from Harbaugh who will not show anything the week before MSU.  And we'll still cover the spread with ease.

Rutgers actually outgained them 382 to 320, had 23 first downs, but had 4 fumbles, which was the difference in the game. Any defense that gives up that many yards to an offense as putrid as Rutgers is going to be destroyed by us. Even at -34 I'd take that and throw a lot of money on us and maybe the over.
