Michigan Mock Draft Positions
There has not been much talk about the upcoming NBA draft, which is surprising given the huge effect it will have on the constitution of our team next year. There have been 30 threads created on the NBA draft during the time I got pulled away from writing this. Correct me if I’m wrong, but April 16th is the declaration date, so we will know who is staying and who is gone by then, right?
There hasn’t been much stated about who is packing up their rooms and who is entrenching themselves for another long March. I’ve referenced a few mock drafts to get a range on our potential pro prospects. McGary's range is odd, as most sites don't have him in the top 60. Maybe he was omitted from a few mock drafts due to saying he's 100% on returning to the team.
Trey Burke – (6, 6, 7, 7, 9, 9, 13, 17)
Possible teams have included: Kings, Hornets, Pistons, Thunder, Mavs, Bucks
Glenn Robinson III – (10, 10, 10, 10, 11, 16, 22)
Possible teams have included: Timberwolves, Nets, Bullets, 76ers, Hawks
Mitch McGary – (18, 24)
Possible teams have included: Knicks, Hawks
Tim Hardaway Jr. – (19, 28, 30, 32, 32, 47, 51)
Possible teams have included: Heat, Magic, Cavaliers, Bulls, Thunder
Accordingly, saying "No way player X is good enough to go top 20, they would only be a bench player" or something similar is sort of a meaningless comment. Most first round draft picks peak at contributing role player (with some exceptions in bumper classes).
D-Mo left, most people thought he should've stayed.
Lewan stayed, shocking everybody.
At this point, I wouldn't be floored if 0 guys left or if 4 guys left. I'll set the over/under at 2.
All the players will stay ..WHY? to keep this thing going on a ELITE Level and they
would be favorites to win it all...MAYBE they will pay Belien back for everything hes
done For Michigan and be all in.....Wouldnt that be totally amazing? Keeping a program
Elite is getting harder and harder....one can dream...RIGHT?
I think Trey is a great example of why it's a good idea for McGary and Robinson to stick around another year. Last year, when we were all freaking out about Burke, he was slated as a late first round selection IIRC. This year, he's predicted as a lottery pick. Robinson is on some lists, too, but think what a great year next year could do for him.
With Albrecht and Walton as PGs and Irvin coming in as Hardaway's heir apparent (whether Timmy turns pro or not, that seems like Irvin's role), McGary and GR3 are in a position to lead the team and put up huge numbers next year - which could improve their stock even more.
That would still be a hell of a team with Albrecht/Walton, Stauskas, Irvin/LeVert, Donnal/Robinson, and McGary/Morgan/Horford.
If robinson is going to continually be played at the 4 in college, he should leave and get better playing the position he going to play in the nba which is the 3.
Frankly, if all three of McGary/Morgan/Horford return, it would be nice to see one of those guys start playing more at the four. Morgan could guard fours, but he's not much of a shooter. McGary can shoot fairly well from midrange, but he might struggle with quicker fours. You could play McGary and Morgan together, with McGary at the 4 on offense and 5 on defense, while Morgan plays the 5 on offense and the 4 on defense. Then you could rotate in Horford, Bielfedt, and Donnal while playing GRIII at the three.
The NBA is tricky when it comes to drafting players. It seems like nowadays teams look to draft at best a starter in the first round and if he becomes a superstar thats icing on the cake.
It seems like in the NBA players have 1-2 years to get acclaimated to the game (investment time) After that its basically are they ready or d league time
GRIII - has plenty of offensive, pretty soft on D, allbiet he needs to move back to his position of choice, 3
Mitch - might be in the back of his head he could lose a little draft stock after this great run, and not having Trey get him the ball (granted we dont know how next year will turn out)
Timmy - dont know if he can improve much more, could stay and get the degree and have a fun senior year, or leave and see what happens, (might stay if GRIII and Big Mitch Stay)
Just my opinion
Go Blue
McGary's game reminds me a lot of Vlade Divac.
Mcgary range on the mock draft sites is very odd. Chad Ford's mock is defiantly an outlier. Some mock drafts that have been recently updated have him late twenties and some even later.
GR3 is making a decision on how much he thinks he can improve over the summer, playing off the dribble. Cause the offense will be a lot more open for him to go one on one next year. If he isn't scoring 15ppg next year I think his stock would drop compared to now.
Timmy could take over the offense next year, but that would probably hurt his draft stock.
A lot of their decisions will be based on how they think they can survive without Burke, as all those easy buckets wont be their next year.
The whole Pistons roster. You don't have to be great to be drafted relatively high in the 1st round.
They still wouldnt be favorites to win it all next year. Kentucky is the favorite to win it next year, with freshmen. 6 or 7 McDonalds All Americans in one class. All of them will not likely be as good as the hype but if half of them are, they are going to be very good.

I know this likely means nothing, but I just thought I'd put it out there.
I know the season just ended but I'm already getting wayyyy too hyped about next years team!!
Maybe he knows a bit more about who's planning on staying next year? All I know is if Spike is excited, I am excited.
I remember last year the gossip around Trey, I never knew what to think.
The dorm picture and what not
I also remember bacari's twitter and his inside track on McGarys recruitment
Hinting at his favorite candy being M&M's .....
Damn twitter and its trickery
Never know
