Michigan-Minnesota highlights (WH style)

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

The craziest Michigan has ever celebrated a Little Brown Jug win.

I've never seen the players so excited to lift it up at the end. Even in 2006, it was a casual walk over to the sideline. Same with 1987.

Also, OP. I think they did it casually in 2006 because that team had greater goals in mind that year. Winning the jug was nice, but they were concentrating on other things. Unfortunately OSU and USC fucked up the dream.

Anyone remember what the celebration was like in 2003? I'm guessing a lot of it had to do with the way the game ended, coupled with the fact that we hadn't seen it in a year. The reaction seemed totally justified to me. I was losing my mind at the end as well!

Just heard this one while walking home from dinner in South Florida from an older man who follows college football closely.  He said he eloquantly:  "You know young man, both Urban Meyer and Ohio State are like a Chinese restaurant, no matter how hard they try it's never clean" .             Had to share.  Go Blue!

1987 and 2006 were redemption wins for last second field goal upsets the previous years. But last year's Minnesota game and the hellish week that followed may have been one of the lowest points in the program's history. So I fully understand the players reaction to getting the jug back. Despite the epic comeback win in 2003, I don't remember any frantic reactions by the the players to getting the jug. I just remember Jon Falk handing it to them while the entire Metrodome booed. The following year was when Henne connected with Tyler Ecker in the final minute to win 27-24. Another frantic finish but business as usual with the jug. I'll never forget Braylon doing a backflip as the final seconds ticked off and the crowd went nuts.

After watching the highlights I have a couple observations:

- we looked pretty good early on when we went up 14-3. I think one more big play there and Minny rolls over. Unfortunately, momentum swung the other way.

- I'm guessing UFR will reveal that the defense had a bunch of mental lapses both in the running and passing games. We were gashed on a bunch of runs and busted coverage several times. Those errors let Minny back in and gave them the confidence that resulted in some amazing plays by them in the 4th quarter.

- our offense, with or without Rudock, leaves very little margin for error for the defense. The defense had an off night and still only gave up 26 points. 3 of that came at the end of the half on what should have been an interception. Plus peppers should've had a pick 6. However, we can't really count on our offense to pick up the slack if the defense is struggling. Early in the game I felt very confident because I didn't think Minny had a chance of breaking 20. They obviously did, and with our offense it almost cost us the game.

He needs serious consideration for starter at QB. I know it's a small sample size, but against Rutgers that would be excellent experience for him and a chance to see what he can do as a starter.

Midway through the fourth Q I started wondering if we were cursed.  I mean, EVERY single break was going against us.  It was unrelenting.  Had never seen anything like it.  Then the Peppers muff in the endzone breaks our way and I could breath.  Then Spieth and the goal line stand... thank god.

Regardless, that was a HIDEOUS game to watch as an M fan.  We crush that team 9 out of 10 times and this was that 1 out of 10...

Between the end two weeks ago, and this game, it is all uphill for this program.  Glad it's behind us and we squeaked out a Q.

He got an offensive TD, dropped a pick 6, and was tackled by the last man on his punt return. Dude nearly had an offensive, defensive, and ST touchdown

You know why Chuck Norris can never have a heart attack? ... wait for it ... ... Because Chuck Norris's heart would never dare attack Chuck Norris. That's the only one I can remember.

THANKS A TON!!!!!!!!!!!! FWIW I love that it's a half hour.  Perfect length to re-live the game without having to take up hours of your day.  Awesome stuff.

Only thing I don't get is how one or two of Minnesota's big plays that set up scores didn't make the cut (for example the Rudock pick and the pass that a guy caught while on the ground) when you did include some ten yard runs by them.

Regardless, thanks a ton for your hard work.  It's much appreciated.
