Michigan Hockey goes for the sweep @ Minnesota
I haven't paid a lot of attention to hockey this year. Do we have any shot at the tournament?
Although we are a game under .500, the Big Ten is really strong this year (thanks to the addition of #2 Notre Dame), so we have a lot of opportunities for big RPI-boosting wins. The win last night brought us to #18 in the Pairwise Rankings, and another win tonight might put us temporarily in the field.
EDIT: Though I should point out that we are actually closer to 32nd than we are to 12th. We are currently at the top of a pretty big cluster of teams, and there is a bit of a gap above us. So it is going to take road wins (like tonight, hopefully) and avoiding losses to Michigan State and Arizona State (the two worst teams left on the schedule) to make the field.
Actually tied for 15th with Minnesota, but the Gophers have the RPI tiebreaker. Considering that we came into the weekend somewhere around 27th, this is a mammoth jump.
With #13 Penn State coming to Yost next week, we have a great opportunity to jump into the tournament field if we can get at least a win and a tie.
Thanks for filling me in. Interesting - so it's still out there, even if a bit unlikely.
Basketball was fun today, now it’s time to watch hockey and hopefully see our team bring out the brooms!
Go Blue!
Josh Norris with the one-timer on the power play just over 3 minutes into the game. What a start!
What a fucking start. Let's make sure the defense matches the offense tonight.
Kill the gophers. But then who would play the game
Defense seems to be much better the last few games.
Slaker picked the goalie's pocket behind the net, but got called for hooking. Ends a Michigan PP, now on the PK.
Not sure Minnesota even had a shot on goal in their PP.
Took over 9 minutes for Minnesota to get their first shot on goal, but things were much more even for the second half of the first period.
What is this Fox Sports Minnepolis? Good first period. Good guys 2-0.
Fox Sports North.
Great start. Early goal followed by PPG in first 5 min. No goals for them. Keep it going!
Go Blue!
Frak, 3rd goal waved off.
Looks like the explanation is that Michigan interfered with the goalie. Probably the right call.
Damn, their guy backed into our guy cutting past the crease, causing the interference with the goalie.
Wow, Hughes is amaizing
Let's go PK
Crud, Hughes to the box.
FUCK! PPG them, 2-1 U-M.
Lavigne had just made a great save, but Minnesota puts one in after the ensuing faceoff and a scramble in front of the goal.
Let's get that goal back.
Announcer: "Gophers have broken the stalemate." Um, what???
I don't think that word means what he thinks it means.
Coincidental slashing minors.
PPG, 3-1 U-M!!!
From a bad angle, jams it past the goalie. 3-1 Michigan.
Marody!!!
Damn, big rebound from Lavigne, but fortunately we cleared it away.
CLIP: Marody on the PP extends U-M lead to 3-1 for his 31st point of the season! #DMCline#GoBlue pic.twitter.com/ElwSuNHpxQ

Woo! Keep it going!
Cecconi put a Geauxfer into the bench and gave him a little extra business.
Some good opportunities for Minnesota on their PP but no SOG.
Open slap shot from the top of the circle gets snagged. He's been great this weekend.
"Michigan dominating all aspects of the game at this moment."
Music, sweet music.
Still 3-1 good guys.
So many empty seats. Are ye Gophers of such little faith?
We haven't had that many shots, but a lot of good work on the boards to keep the puck in their zone.
Net is empty.
Empty net for them.
Better goalie!
Argh, two misses on the empty net!
How sweep it is!!! 3-1 U-M!!!
Just a great weekend for Michigan. Amazing how far they've come since last year.
Good win for us. Puck handling is much better than in November.
Oh. My wife came down to the cave.
And...?
The win put us in a tie for 15th in the Pairwise. Despite our mediocre record we still have a shot at the tourney especially if we can get some W's against PSU, ND and thee OSU.
What a day today. Another great Michigan victory!
Great day for the good guys!! what does this win mean for us? tourny team??
