Michigan Hockey Anthem "Big Blue"
From the official UM Hockey Twitter is a new anthem with call outs to most of the players on the roster. So I guess we are leaning into everyone else calling us "Big Blue" now?

Detroit is "The D." More recently, Dallas decided to start calling itself "Big D," because Texas, where everything has to be biggest. I would never accept people starting to refer to Detroit as Big D, because we are the original D and it needs no embellishment. Michigan needs no embellishment either.

for us oldsters, IBM was always known as 'big blue', back when computers were new and the size of a semi. so that particular phrase isn't ours, was well known back when dinosaurs roamed the earth, and was most definitely not a U of M phrase or association.
i agree re: 'big red' is fine, but that's because it was always for those respective schools, and didn't belong to, for instance, ford or GM or colgate-palmolive.

But everyone calls our fight song, "Hail to the Victors," instead of the actual name, "The Victors," so we should just rename it and go along with what everyone calls it instead of what the it actually is. Better yet, let's go with, "THE Big Blue," to differentiate it from Kentucky, the NY Giants, and IBM.

Interestingly enough, there are plenty of licensed "Go Big Blue" Kentucky t-shirts/sweatshirts, etc., and a number of NFL-licensed NY Giants, "Big Blue" shirts out there for sale, but not a single licensed Michigan, "Big Blue," shirt to be found, anywhere.
It's almost as if...it's not a thing!

One positive thing about living in Kentucky, no one calls Michigan Big Blue down here for obvious reasons.
To me, Big Red is WKU's mascot, that beautiful blob that is the Red Phantom Grimace.

No to big blue, that's not it. Also maybe it's just me, but I hate the moniker 'Wolverine Nation'. I know alot of teams like OSU use 'Buckeye Nation'. I'm old school, it's Go Blue and that's it.

For another school known by this, we added “Vein” to the end of the team name.
