Actually, it can be

They can be 2 wins worse than 2020.

Ha! There is one thing I have learned for sure in my time here on earth: It can ALWAYS get worse.

Anyone know if this is a good hire?

I will take an SEC coach any day because he will be recruiting that area and this guy was an excellent recruiter for Florida. He was also at Miss State. Anything to get Michigan recruiting in Ohio and the South.

True, but most recruits from the warm states like to stay there. I’m pretty sure anyone at Florida could recruit Florida better than a coach for Michigan. Most kids want to stay closer to home too. So I don’t know if he’s a great recruiter in general or just at a geographical advantage right now.

Yeah, as we've seen it's hard to get guys to come up north consistently. You'll absolutely be able to pull some guys in but it's natural that guys will want to play closer to home and at established powers more times than not. I like that this staff is going young and seems to be targeting guys who can really push the team's culture, though.
I guess I also wonder how he is as an actual coach; this year it felt like the LBs fell off a cliff and it wasn't all just due to injuries and little camp.

Build a national program and they will come

Exactly. It’s not overly warm in Columbus, OH either.
Build relationships, win football games, get them to the NFL.

I mean, it's nice to recruit but the guy also has to be able to coach the guys he gets. And while I'm not the biggest BJM fan, he did bring in two top-15 LB recruits from SEC country; Robinson's two years at UF show a pretty good recruiter but getting guys to leave the south to play at Michigan is a different pitch than telling guys from Florida, Georgia, and Alabama to stick closer to home.
My bigger concern with any LB coach is that he actually can develop the guys he brings in; getting a couple of talented guys in and then being bad at development doesn't mean much.

If so, this is a great hire. Harbaugh needs to get back into Ohio and recruit himself.

He was a LB at UGA. I followed him a bit since we have the same name.

As I posted in the thread below:
Christian Robinson is a good dude.
I worked for the UF team in 2018, he was already there as the LB coach. Typical young guy, very active at practice, LBs were a mix of old vets (including former M commit David Reese) and young talent but definitely a strong up and coming group that season.
He seemed to be pretty key for recruiting as the young coach that could connect with the players, heard a lot of good things about him. Also seems like he's close with the team, I saw him hopping out of a car with a bunch of players in the parking lot before practice a few times.
Would definitely be a good hire to defensively but especially for recruiting.

So fill us in on how much cheating goes on in SEC.

We had bagels AND cream cheese available.

There is also a past connection between him and Mike Macdonald at Georgia.

Give us all of the recruiters!

Double post of death.

And also possibly hiring the Ravens secondary coach? Why the hell would John let Jim take 2 of his coaches? I don't get it.
January 15th, 2021 at 4:25 PM ^
Holy shit this staff got young in a hurry. After Jim and Warriner how old is the next most senior coach? 35?
January 15th, 2021 at 4:28 PM ^
Youthful, hungry and diverse...if this is the staff that ends up being assembled I love it! Both sides of the ball are this way.

Can the Bills please beat the Ravens tomorrow night so the DC can be announced on Sunday
January 15th, 2021 at 5:46 PM ^
Does he have connections in Pahokee?
January 15th, 2021 at 7:39 PM ^
Sam is also saying there's smoke around Clink and Michigan too.
January 15th, 2021 at 7:50 PM ^
DB coach though. Not bringing the Ravens DB coach?
January 16th, 2021 at 11:27 AM ^
How about Sergeant Shultz?
I see nothing . . . nothing.
Oh, nevermind . . . not Colonel Klink.

I think the most important hire to be made is the defensive line coach. We have obviously struggled recruiting the dline. I’m curious as to who is going to fill that slot.
January 17th, 2021 at 1:11 PM ^
So, UM is NOT getting him? Man what a mess this all is.
