FS1 is pretty standard out West.  It's still a relatively new network but has been telecasting Pac-12 sports for a while basically as Fox's "ESPN-2" and was created by picking off existing ESPN/FOX talent.

I think it has as much to do with TCU vs Utah in terms of the networks and given the limitations of how many games/conference each gets, it's just the way it worked out.

The Pac-12 has a TV contract that gives the Fox networks first dibs.

Has nothing to do with any of that.

Fox Sports 1 is a national network that was launched to compete with ESPN. It's not like they're putting it on regional television or something.

Are you kidding me, WD?  You are comparing ESPN's viewership with Fox Sports 1?

Google is your friend....look up viewership stats that compare the two networks, then come back and make the case that Michigan is getting the same number of looks as they would if they were broadcast on ESPN.

Regardless of network, that will happen.  FS1 has the benefit of advertising on the Fox Sports Net stations and on Fox.  So when you're watching preseason-NFL on Fox, you will see this game repeatedly.  Same goes for the baseball game of the week.  So it's not as if this game will be played and no one will know about it.

They will get the eyes turned onto their station, even if it's only for three hours.

JC!!! Fox sports 1?!?!? I do not get that stupid channel with my current programming. Which means I will either have to change my programming (higher monthly bill) or make arrangements to leave the comforts of my living room for a late night out. F this!!! Just put the damn game on espn/abc or on btn.

My Dish package is no longer available. So if I change it I can not go back to my old programing and its a cheap package that has most of the channels I would want without a bunch of garbage channels. Thanks for the suggestion though I may explore that option further.

I've watched games on FS1 and there were no problems. I'm not well-versed on the who-gets-to-broadcast-what-conference's-home-games rules, but Utah is PAC12 so I don't think it's a snub of Michigan because the game isn't on ESPN.

Dan Murphy, of ESPN, said on Twitter that FS1 had first dibs. I don't know how to embed links but here is a copy and paste version:

"It's at Utah, so Fox gets first dibs because of contract with Pac 12. I'm sure every network wanted (Michigan vs Utah)."

This was in regards to a question about why it was not on ESPN.

We didn't have BTN when it debuted with App State at MICHIGAN and had to find a bar.  It sucked, but that was more a deal with COMCAST being dicks and not coming to terms with the BTN until the next year..

Maybe other carriers will pick up FS1 between now and September.  I can see being pissed about that situation.  I was just confused by some replies that seemed to indicate FS1 carrying the game was some qualitative commentary on MICHIGAN FOOTBALL.

FS1 nabbing the game says precisely the opposite ...perhaps there will be ads run this summer along the lines of, "Don't get FS1 on your cable?  Call your local provider and tell them you want FS1 Now!"

They've done that kind of shit before.

It's a long shot, but the game is on the TH before Labor Day weekend, so you never know ...selling your MICHIGAN tickets just might pay for the entire season and then some, and still be cheaper than the "$1011" I saw on-line for 40yd line.

Really??  Over $1000 for a Utah regular season game?  If that guy gets his price, give him credit.

Is it really that big a deal to go out for the night to watch the game? Jesus, you'd think someone killed your first born child with all the crying about this.

Get off your couch, take a shower and go out to a BW3 or something.

As someone who remembers when Pac-10 games were found on weird cable channels and local Fox Sports affiliates late at night, looking like they were broadcasts beamed in from the moon then put through a scrambling filter, this is going to be great.

Agreed.  When we got the BTN the package included all these regional Fox networks with crappy, analog signals but you would get M Hockey on FS ..Pac-10 games coming on late at night with Cal at Wash State, or whatever.

FS1 is a regular Fox Sports network only without the Today Show-like content found on ESPNsucks these days.  On FS1, they do the things ESPN used to in terms of programming and FS1 is a far better produced product than BTN is today.

And wasn't it Dave Brandon who inked this game when the BigTen and Pac-12 agreed to increase the number of games between conferences in response to the All-SEC Lovefest ESPN and the media was having?

That's 1:30 AM in London which is where I'll be. Ugh. If people are worried about not having access to this channel in these United States of America, I assume I'm fucked.
