"Michigan needs Vilain to be a pass rusher off the edge, and that’s exactly what he did on Sunday. He didn’t end up with any sacks, but he had three hits on the quarterback and forced some bad throws. Vilain also made some athletic plays towards the sideline, keeping ball carriers from turning the corner and getting down the field."

Currently, he is rated #181 overall and as a the #7 WDE (on Rivals), so he should get a nice bump after this performance.

I had him with 7 QB hurries in the game, along with 1 tackle. He looked pretty darn good rushing the passer. I saw him get stoned against the pass 2 or 3 times, but otherwise, he had his way with Jedrick Wills, Austin Deculus, etc.

I loved seeing Taco have such a great year. Hoping this kid can be even better.

Tangent: I believe Taco finished with 9.5 sacks. I actually think Chase could top that next year.

Agreed.  I've wondered this too.

Coming out of high school, he was a 215 pound linebacker.  According to his "Hello" post, he was listed at 218 in his highlight video.

According to the team rosters, he was 220 as a freshman, 230 as a sophomore, and then he played this past year as a 245 pound DE.  It's not impossible for him to get to 255-260 for next year.  We'll see.

He reminds me a bit of Brennen Beyer (256 as a senior) , a guy who did well against some of the lesser competition but was pushed around a bit by bigger and more physical linemen .  Hopefully Winovich is more Ojemudia (even at 252 pounds as a senior) than Beyer in the run defense and develops as an edge rusher in passing downs.

He's a great kid from a great family (some of his extended family in Pittsburgh are family friends) and so I'm a little more vested in him because of that.

A beer and double cheeseburger diet will add up the calorie intake fast too along with the pounds. It's a satisfying pain remedy for nagging injuries and an average relaxation method after a hard days work also. I am living proof believe it or not. He is of age now so just needs to get to bed early enough to not be hungover and start hydrating at dawn. Only beers at home too. haha!

rushing the passer. He'll need to get stronger at POA and set the edge better against the run, but he certainly has the potential to be Taco II. Is he an EE? 9 months of S&C with Tolbert and college nutrition might get him ready enough to contribute next year in spots. Excited about his joining the program.

Thanks op for the info, but who cares about getting a bump in the rankings? If he doesn't become a better player because of it then it doesn't matter.

That's my thought as well. I suppose it reflects improvement, but the rankings are so subjective to begin with, I'm not sure that it matters a whole lot.

Bottom line is that he remains the same young man that is committed to Michigan. A bump in rankings doesn't make him a better get.
