Michigan and Arizona Watch Party Saturday in A2

Submitted by HokelessRomantic on

MGoCommunity,

After I spend a glorious fall afternoon tailgating and getting ready to cheer on my Michigan Wolverines and all of the amazing young men who we've all followed and welcomed since the days they announced their commitments, I am going to return to my tailgate spot, celebrate what I hope will be a win against PSU and tune into the Arizona Wildcats as they battle the University of Spoiled Children.  I will likely not have much of a voice because I am going to scream my ass off for the Wolverines, but I welcome anyone who is in the area to stop by and join us for what should be an excellent night-cap to a day of great football in A2.

I dont promise any food or beverages as they'll likely be exhausted between 11AM and kick-off, but you're free to come by, say hello, and enjoy the remaining hours of the evening.

  • PLACE: BLUE LOT RV AREA (near Kipke Dr and Stadium Blvd) across from tunnel connecting Blue Lot to UofM Golf course lot
  • SPOT: Directly next to Police building near train tracks that run along new indoor practice facility.  Just look for the RV's and a big TV screen mounted to a Blue Trailer.

Enjoy your day... and GO BLUE!

P.S. Lots of talk about boycotts and player support.  The players all walk by our tailgate, many with their parents, and often stop and chat.  I can think of no better way to support them than shaking their hands and saying... GO BLUE!

I honestly don't get the fixation with RR and Arizona.  RR failed at Michigan.  You can blame it all you want on Lloyd Carr and some bogeyman conspiracy, but he still failed.

Fans get attached to these guys and that's okay.  I personally don't feel too attached to Rich Rod.  I hope he does well, but it's a passive hope and I don't really care how Arizona does.  I will feel attached to Hoke, even if he ends up someplace else, and I'll cheer for his new team pretty enthusiastically.

Stop responding to every post that doesn't feel the same way you do. It makes you look petty and pushy. We get it, you like RR, you're buying the media narrative right now that is propping him up to God like status while burying UM even further in the ground. You stated your case in the original thread, take the high road and leave your opinion there. Let others have their say without putting words in people's mouths , i.e. your Les Miles remark, no one said that, you did. Telling someone they have an odd fascination with USC, since one could say you do with UA. Insinuating that RR is a "loser" in one of your responses when the posters remarks didn't fit your bill of goods.

Even though this is primarily a football site, Amaker's gotten some praise here for his accomplishments at Harvard.  If, at the same time, our basketball team was floundering and Beilein was obviously on the way out the mood here would be much different. Beillein's first NCAA appearance would get credited to Amaker's players and people would be following his career a lot more closely.

Guilty as charged Mabel but I think for me the reason I tend to not remember the bad stuff as much is because of the reasons for it IMO.

1. Ex coach poisening well with existing players from day #1 of transition

2. Ex players not supporting him

3. Free Press Jihad

4. Tight fisted assistant budget as compared to Hoke's

There were a ton more things too but those are the biggies.  Did Rich make a lot of mistakes here - absolutely.  All coaches do - even Saban.  But the differnence IMO was that other programs seem to go out of their way to support and HELP the HC overcome their mistakes while Michigan used them to try and destroy him.  And I'm definitely in the camp that Rich is and was a GREAT HC (Alabama wanted him too remember only one year before and he turned them down) and would prospered wildly here if people werent so determined to see him fail.

And that makes me real sad.  And the fact he's succeeding someplace else doesnt surprise me in the least - it validates my opinion of what went on here and why he was great at West Virginia (33-5 last three years) shitty at Michigan and starting to be great again in Arizona.

Just when they played Michigan mostly. The difference is Tommy Amaker is basketball coach at Harvard while Rodriguez is a football coach at a Pac12 school in Arizona. The fact you will simply see Arizona more often is part of the reason but the other part is Harvard may play one big game Arizona gets USC, Oregon, and UCLA which are nationally reknown programs. Pair that with people enjoy watching Oregon choke and USC flop it makes for a more compelling story. The fascination would be lessend if Rodriguez hadn't ended up at another Power 5 school and landed in the MAC or Conference USA.

Where did anyone say anything about Carr or say that RR was a good fit here? I simply like the guy and think he has an exciting brand of football. Nobody is picking a RR vs Carr/Hoke fight here. I have season tix to Michigan, not Arizona. I have about 30 pieces of Michigan apparel, I have 0 Arizona apparel. Stop by the tailgate, look at my set-up, and then ask me who I cheer for and support primarily with all my heart and wallet. But don't make a fight where there Isn't one.

Eh. He was given only three years. Obviously he was dealt a terrible hand in year one; he went on to improve by two wins in each of the following two seasons. I do not agree that he "failed". He wasn't given a fair chance, but he was improving, and who knows what he could have achieved with two more years of Denard.

It also doesn't change the fact that offenses with a pulse shred our defense, and shitty defenses shut our offense down. Progress! Or that you attempted in the past to argue that Rodriguez is simply "a shitty coach." Your opinion on this matter is pretty irrelevant on the matter. Why? His track record at literally every stop besides Michigan being successful. Shitty coaches don't do at Ari-fucking-zona what he's accomplished already.

You have any idea of the athletes you need to run a spread? Apparently not cause you have magically erased how we were always outmatched versus athletic teams check the 1997 Rose Bowl for example. I was there when USC whipped our ass in the 2nd half. It was embarrassing watching them dominate us. I asked Carr after the game why we couldn't compete with them and all he had was a blank stare on his face. Carr didn't have a lot of athletes and when RR got here it has been established he tried to screw him by encouraging kids to transfer out.

Ohio State and Arizona State played in the 1997 Rose Bowl. We played in the 1998 Rose Bowl, but it was against Washington St.

Unfortunately, you're right about USC whipping our asses in the 2004 and 2007 Rose Bowls.

say what you want, but RichRod invented the spread offense, and his offensive schemes are fast and fun to watch.  He may never have a player who is a better fit for his system than Denard, but watching his  plays is fun.

Especially if you have had to watch the Michigan offense the last 4 years.

Serious question here. How does a loss or a win for that matter by RR or anyone else make you feel any better about Michigan? That's a pretty interesting statement to make about someone you don't care about. He failed here so he should fail elsewhere unless Michigan is doing well I which case it's ok for RR to do well? Comparisons are made because he was run off, fair or not, and replaced with someone who is doing poorly as well. If Hoke leaves and gets another job somewhere and wins would you feel the same way?

it bothers you that we look like a clown show to the rest of the college football nation so you want Rodriquez to fail so we look better. Bad news, we'll still look like a clown show because Brandon hired an unqualified guy to coach a marquis football program, and everyone outside the state of Michigan knew it the day he was hired.
