Michigan -18 over MSU: UPDATE
How about this for crazy? I think -18 is crazy-low. I was guessing -21 at least, and -24 at the high end.
But if I had told you two months ago UM would be favored by 18 IN EAST LANSING this year, how many psychiatric wards would you have sent me to???
I'll bet that line ends up closer to -24 than -18... :-DDD
EDIT: Just checked the line again, and it's already been bet-up to UM -21. Now THAT seems a little better...

With how bad they’re playing and with how UM is progressing every game, I’d bet we cover that spread around mid-2nd quarter. The real gamble is if our second and third string keep running it up in the second half; which I think they will.

"Second and third string?" Now THAT is funny.
Harbaugh isn't going to take his foot off the pedal like he did for respected collegue Lovie Smith because he has no respect for Dantonio, nor does he see him as a "collegue." I am guessng we don't see O'Korn until it's time to take a knee.
My beat guess: Michigan 48, Sparty 17.

Peppers pulls such a sick spin move that he gets disoriented and scores in the wrong end zone? Not sure where the other 10 come from.

You mean the other 15. If he scores in the wrong endzone it would be a safety.

State is the master of the backdoor TD.

My "safe, shell-shocked from the past 8 years" side agrees with you. My "have you actually watched MSU play this year?" side thinks you and this line and nucking futs... UM SHOULD cruise in this game, rivalry or not. I would be 0% surprised if the final score was in the 49-14 category, and really only that close because Harbaugh plays more conservative...

gave up after the IU loss and started preparing for us for the last three weeks since their season was over anyway. That's the only thing that scares my shell-shocked self because it's totally something Dantoni would do.

I have a reservation at Ruth's Chris after the game so I prefer anyhting above 50.

we might blow them out, but odds are that we will get a strong game from them, and that it will be competitive at least for a while. 18 point win would be wonderful, all things considered.

We are going to get MSU's best game, and all they have to give. Pretty much their season next week as bowl eligibilty is slipping away for them. Of course we all (except for trolls) hope they cover, and agree we took the foot off the gas in 2nd half yesterday, and respect Lovie as a good coach, but the main thing is to Beat Sparty this game, and come out of it healthy.

and I have been somewhat outspoken aobut us blowing them out. I think Jim wants to stomp theses MFers. He seems to have a vindictive streak on the field, and I don't think he will pull any punches against Mork & Co.
That said, it's all they have to hope for, and I wouldn't be surprised if they cover. Rivalry games are a funny thing.

Does anyone remember when Jon Reschke tweeted out that he couldn't wait until Michigan gets locked inside Spartan Stadium for 60 minutes? I wonder if he still thinks that.

MSU has enough playmakers to make this a game. UM has to come out intense, focused, and relentless.
A caveat is if UM throws a haymaker early. MSU has not shown much resiliency as a team. The game could get ugly if UM starts fast.

O'Connor, McDowell, Bullough, Nicholson. They have some talent, enough to give us trouble. And Dantonio will have them ready. Agree with the poster who said that if we get out early, it could be a blowout, but if they can cash in on early turnovers, it will be close the whole way and not decided until late in the fourth quarter.

MSU is in a huge tailspin. But they are a way better team than Illinois.
OTOH, MSU's 0-line seems pretty bad. Becasue M has such a great d-line and also Don Brown blitzes, this really limits any chance of MSU overperforming and somehow making it close.
IOW, the best possible matchup scenario for M is an opponent with a questionable o-line.

I'd proabably take MSU to beat Illinois. But both are not good. My sense is that MSU is not putting it together very well, but overall has more talent on the roster than Illinois right now.

They have pieces of a good offense. They just don't have the OL or QB.

I don't know that I've ever seen a Michigan team this laser-focused and out for blood in the Dantonio era. I've never been one for exaggerated pre-game confidence (for fear of Karma's swift retribution) but no amount of disrespect can propel MSU to even a close game this Saturday.
October 23rd, 2016 at 1:43 PM ^
I've seen a lot of posts like this and I don't get them. Is it just trying to keep your expectations low so you can be pleasantly surprised? Do you think Vegas doesn't know that this is MSU's only thing worth playing for? Do you think this game isn't important to our players?
They are going to give us everything they have, and we are going to curbstomp them. If they get 150 yards I'll be shocked. No knock on wood. Bloodbath coming up.

Ohio State lost because Barrett, their O-line, and Tim Beck are all mediocre. Not because they forgot to show up.
October 23rd, 2016 at 6:21 PM ^
Your counter example is that OSU lost to a team that we obliterated? That same team we obliterated is ranked and MSU is 2-5 and just got soundly beat by Maryland. They are not good at football. We are very good at it. And we match up fantastically. Don't overthink it.
