Michigan up 1 Spot to 24th in Coaches Poll
MSU dropped from the rankings after losing at the least frightening stadium in the Big Ten...
EDIT: Also worth noting that one-loss OSU jumped undefeated Wisconsin into the #3 spot. While I agree OSU's victory is more impressive than any win Wisconsin has all year, and Wisconsin shouldn't be rewarded for playing an easy schedule, this confirms to me that the voters will do just about anything to get OSU into the playoff. It'll be interesting to see if the same happens in the AP...

Question. Are we going to get stuck with still another cluster-fuck night game in Madison? Madison is a different place to play at night...and not in a good way for us.
October 29th, 2017 at 7:26 PM ^
Nope.
Unless we choose to agree to it. That late in the season, the away team has veto power for night games according to Big Ten contracts.
Expect a 3:30PM ET/2:30PM CT kickoff on a nationally broadcasted network. Possibly Gameday to Madison as well if Michigan and Wisconsin both win the next two weeks (would be one of the few ranked matchups of the weekend and ESPN's only chance to get to the Badgers this year; they're almost certainly going to Atlanta in December instead of Indy).

Yes, you seem uncertain of that or did you just wipe that from your memory - probably a good thing as I wish I could also.

Notre Dame jumped into the Top 5
October 29th, 2017 at 2:34 PM ^
That's some bullshit right there. Total bullshit...
October 29th, 2017 at 2:39 PM ^
Record wise, they are the best one-loss team...a one point home loss to the number 3 team in the country and they've blown out everyone else, including 3 Top 25 teams...I think that ND should have jumped sooner...
October 29th, 2017 at 3:50 PM ^
1. Georgia (better wins than Alabama)
2. Alabama
3. Ohio St. (some other teams have an argument but damn, they looked scary good after the slow start yesterday)
4. Notre Dame (some other teams have an argument here but they’ve destroyed 3 ranked teams and have one 1-point loss to Georgia)

When did ND suddenly become good at football again?
It was just like 2 weeks ago that Kelly was in the terminal stage ("We'll let you coach until your buyout clause goes down to a reasonable amount") and Georgia fans took over their stadium. Now, top 5? Wha?
October 29th, 2017 at 2:44 PM ^
including Michigan State, USC, and NC State...3 top 25 teams, two rivalry games...and games against 2 oher Top 25 teams coming up...
October 29th, 2017 at 2:46 PM ^
It's weird. I give credit to his players for still buying in because everyone assumed he was a dead man walking after 2016.
(Now, given the ND trajectory, they'll go 7-6 next year.)

of course
October 30th, 2017 at 12:45 AM ^
There is a pretty good chance that 2 of the 3 top 25 teams they have beat so far will be unranked by seasons end.

TBH, our florida win is looking less impressive week by week and for the games we have won we have struggled at times and this against teams we should have just smacked.
October 30th, 2017 at 12:48 AM ^
We smoked florida despite the close scoreboard. LSU beat them by one point after Floridas kicker missed a pat.
October 29th, 2017 at 3:39 PM ^
Air Force is 4-4. Rutgers, Indiana, and Purdue are all 3-5. Florida is 3-4. Cincy is 2-6.

Their other lose was to MSU. They beat Florida by one point.
October 29th, 2017 at 3:50 PM ^
Michigan's best win right now is against a .500 non-P5 team (Air Force)
Michigan is also 5-0 agains teams with losing records (aggregate .359 win percentage).
Michigan is 0-2 against teams with winning records.

- Both of Michigan's losses are to ranked teams; only one of LSU's is.
- LSU lost to Troy at home, which is a much worse loss than ours to MSU.
- Additionally, Penn State is a far, far better team than Mississippi State and LSU lost by 30 points to Miss. State (one point worse than our 29 point margin); the eye test was also much better. LSU literally showed no fight after the first quarter; Michigan came within 1 point late in the 2nd quarter after being down 14 and it was a one score game at halftime.
- Michigan and LSU have one common opponent, Florida, and our result against them was significantly better. LSU only beat them by a single point in fluky fashion because Florida missed an extra point attempt.
Yeah, LSU has one win that's better than any of ours, but their losses are far worse and we also dramatically outperformed them against our common opponent. Without a doubt, Michigan should be above LSU.
Mississippi State and Washington State are closer to even and I can understand why they could be above us, but I think Washington State will lose this weekend to Stanford so we'll rise above them anyways.

Some coaches even admit they just let their Sports Information Director vote in their place since they aren't watching other teams. Valid point by SFBlue about Wisconsin though, they will likely crash to the finish like Michigan did last year and end up outside the NY6 or in the Cotton Bowl at best.

Yes. CFP values wins over teams with a wining record and Michigan doesn’t have any. They look at teams by blind resumes and Michigan has an awful blind resume. Their best win is over a 4-4 Air Force.
Michigan State has three wins over teams with a winning record -- Michigan, Iowa, and Western Michigan. Sparty will definitely be ranked ahead of Michigan.
