MGoBlog Camping Trip... Good idea?

Submitted by Dennis on
I'm not sure if this has happened before, but I was wondering if there would be any interest in the MGoBlog community going on a group camping trip in Northern Michigan or something. It would be cool to mix alumni and non-alumni fans alike and discuss things like football, try Michigan breweries, and just hang out. Reserving cabins up north is very affordable, especially with a large group. We could even make t-shirts with our avatars and associated screennames. Thoughts? I'll help organize if there's interest.

Upchurch tried this once with just the staff at his uncle's lake house. We all brought wives and girlfriends. The girls were not very into it, since they were meeting for the first time and we were all drinking beer and talking football. We never did it again.

No way in hell this is happening. One can only imagine how this would play out.

Mgoblogger: Honey I'm home from my camping trip.

Wife: How did it go sweetheart? Did you have fun and meet new friends?

Mgoblogger: Had a great time!!! Did not meet any new friends though.

Wife: Well I'm sorry to hear that. Why not?

Mgoblogger: Everybody was on Mgoblog all weekend! Had the time of my life! Going again next year!!!!

This is a really good idea.  The OP is willing to organize and coordinate.  It's not that difficult to do.  I subscribe to audiokarma.org and we have annual regional meet-ups where forum members gather together at a host's house to drink beer, BBQ, and geek out on audiophile stuff.  It's always a blast and it's always great to meet the real person behind the avatar.  OP, if I wasn't on the east coast I'd say include me on your list.  If this happens, anyone who goes is going to really enjoy it.

Some of you are wildly disappointed with me as a moderator that you've never met, now imagine expanding on that disappointment when I get the opportunity to moderate your discussions in person.

I already have access to a cabin in Canada Creek, up near Atlanta, but unfortunately, I often have to fight my parents for it in the summer as they technically own it.

of all of us sitting around a campfire, feet away from each other, yet everyone still staring at the laptop/ipad logged in to MGoBlog is equal parts hilarious and sad.

I'll only agree to go if you promise me we can book the Overlook Hotel.

there would be good comments on this thread :-)

Somewhat relevant, can anyone advise why I'm unable to upload an avatar?  I have a Pam Beesly picture; when I try uploading (from any computer) it reverts back to a previous avatar and then all I can do is delete it.

Most think Northern Michigan starts at Flint...  And the MGoBloggers could not handle a trip into the true northern michigan, Have they even heard of Grand Marais?  Keewenaw?  If you make it up into the UP, I can get some campers.  Goodluck Sir.

The t-shirt bit would be amusing to me if only to see someone with a sexybit avatar wear their t-shirt in front of a female poster and get harshly judged.

The only thing that would ever actually make me want to do this would be with avatar t-shirts, LSA actually moderating our discussions and escorting people to a place we have proclaimed Bolivia, and stuff like that.

If we could just do real-life versions of the things we do on here (and also, not use the site during the trip as it would be redundant), that would be flat out hilarious.
