META: site update? Press the button?

Submitted by soupsnake on
Several weeks ago there was a similar thread asking about when the new site would be going live. A mod said that the site was done and they just needed to hit the button to send the it to the matrix or the nexus or some other futuristic sounding place. Has the button been pressed? Are we in the Netrix? Is the new site shockingly similar to the old site?

We're mostly waiting for everyone at the site to actually be around for the launch. (I was hoping to have the Wagner retrospective ready to go for it, for instance.) It's crunch time for HTTV, too. Soon.

(Edit: Haha, hi, Seth.)

I should add that our beta testers can still go look at it. Not everything from the development site is pushed to the beta site right now but I think everything but the ads are.

in another thread that the switch would be flipped "when we can all be together", not sure who/what they are waiting for, but perhaps someone is out of town?

EDIT: note to self, always scroll/read all the way down before replying.

Those of you who keep beating this drum might want to consider that Brian is passive aggressive and delays the launch because you irritate him. Let it go. He’ll launch it when he wants to/is ready.

It will happen when it will happen. It will be what it will be. And, tbh, at this point, I'm not expecting too much from a site upgrade. Like many things in life (new phones, new cars, new restaurants, new TV's,) the hype often far outweighs the reality. If your hopes are very high for the nirvana of websites, the perfect, beautiful, fast, easy to use, friendly, great content website, you're pretty much bound to be disappointed.

My understanding is that a big part of the reason for the site upgrade is not necessarily that the current site is stale in terms of features and aesthetics, but that it was built in 2008 on a platform that is now essentially dead (i.e., Drupal). The new site is either custom-built or has likely been rebuilt from the ground up on a more actively developed platform (i.e., Wordpress).

In the future, we are #1, and make it to Indy, not to mention the CFB playoff in Santa Clara.

In the future, we go back to the Final Four and win it this time.

Man...., I cannot wait for the future to arrive!
