Meta: The Recent Sethlessness
I know a lot of you are waiting for your HTTV stuff, and maybe one or two of you missed Hokepoints this morning, or found (gasp) copy errors in recent posts that weren't promptly rectified.
My father, the source of my Michigan fandom, my model for righteousness and business ethics, my close friend and the proof that everything they say about living life to its fullest is correct, passed away suddenly last Friday.
100% Worst Thing Ever tag: deployed.
I'm going to slowly ease back into my MGoDuties as this week progresses, with the first priority getting HTTV back on track and then getting caught up on the needs of our patient clientele, before full content resumes.
If you feel moved to do something, tell your Dad the thing he already knows. If you feel moved to charity or something, my family's giving to the...
Sorry for your loss.
Seth - I am so, so sorry for your loss. I lost my father on October 15th, 2008 at the age of 86 and not a day goes by that I dont miss him. I know exactly how you feel and will keep you and your family in our prayers.
So sorry for your loss Seth. Losing a parent is an incredibly difficult thing to go through, but it does eventually become less painful.
I'm very sorry to read that. That's terrible news. My heart goes out to you and your family. I wish I had something better to say. Sounds like you had a great dad.
HTTV and Mgostuff is very small compared to this, so don't worry about that. Take care of yourself. We here in the peanut gallery can entertain ourselves while you're dealing with this.
Keep on truckin Seth. Sorry to hear such bad news. At this point it probably feels like someone ripped your leg off your body- but in time you learn to deal with it and realize that the reason it hurts so much is b/c of how much you meant to each other. Good luck
Side note, he looks remarkably like my father. Hate to think about what that will be like one day.
What a great picture to remember him by.
i love that he has no shoes on.
Sorry to hear this. He raised one hell of a Michigan fan, which we all have benefited from and are grateful for. Condolences.
Oh man, that is a bummer. Sorry for your loss. Hope all these words help you through this tough time.
Deepest condolences to you and your family.
I didn't know your father, yet from what I can glean from the above picture of a man resplendent in mustache, shirt, tie, and stocking feet, with an ear-to-ear grin at midfield of Michigan Stadium, I have reached the obvious conclusion that your father was awesome.
I lost my father this year. My heart goes out to you.
Take care of yourself and those you love.
And that day was just a little over one year (3 days over) to when I lost my father, the source of my Michigan fandom as well. His was less sudden, but nonetheless had an impact and I have the deepest sympathy for your loss, Seth.
Really sorry to hear that Seth. Condolences to you and yours. Based on the pictures, comments of others, etc. it really seems that Zichrono L'Vrachah applies here, may his memory be a blessing.
Hate to hear news like this. Take your time!
I'm sure everyone understands you taking the time you need.
Frame that photo and put it in your (home) office. It will bring a smile to your face at the beginning of every work day.
I'm really sorry to read this, Seth.
my sincere condolences. I lost my father the week before Bo passed. What a double whammy.
It's a horrible rite of passage - I wish you the best.
Seth, so sorry to hear this. You and your family have my thoughts and condolences.
I lost my father almost 10 years ago. I think of him every day. And every day I see myself becoming more like him, at least with the silly habits and consistently calling things by the wrong name. I'll never be so fortunate as to have his integrity or love of life.
From my experience, there is no way to deal with loss except to experience that loss. The cracks in your heart are where the sun eventually will shine in. Maybe not today, but with time even pain can become a cherished companion when those we love are no longer here to sit with us and have a beer.
Sending you all my care.
Very sorry to hear about your loss, Seth. Deepest condolences in this time for you and your family.
As others have said, don't worry one bit about us or this corner of the Internet - I can try to help with certain things, if anything comes up. Take care of your family. I am all too happy to make a donation as well.
my sympathies to you & your family.
Damn Seth, I'm sorry to hear that. So sad to hear, escpecially since it was sudden and unexpected. Thoughts and prayers to your whole family.
Incredibly sad for your loss, and condolences to you sand your family.
Shit, dude. I'm really sorry to read that. Please don't feel like you owe us anything right now.
My brother and Mom knew your parents when they lived in B'ham. I also lost my father very suddenly, so I know the road ahead of you. If it helps, reliving the "last conversation that you should have had" happens less and less as time goes by. Take care. Looks like he was a fun, cool Dad.
Reminds me of the Hoke article discussing similar circumstances, and my response to that.
"I think of all the little things, like the anecdote that started the article, that I have with my old man. The little things that I just call him about as I start doing things that "grown ups" do and become more and more like him. And my old man sounds a lot like Hoke's dad, my biggest critic but my biggest fan. He was really hard on me growing up, but he's also really proud of me. So I start seeing myself in these pieces, and what that feeling will be like, and that's hard.
It's never easy losing someone that means so much, in all the big ways and little ways, no matter where you are in life."
You're not the first and you won't be the last that struggle with the loss of such an important part of your life, but that makes it no easier. I'm very sorry for your loss and you and your family are in my thoughts. Take your time getting back, and when you start to think you're ready to get back to some sense of normality (whatever that can eventually be), I'll make sure to send the denizens that critique you're every move and will make sure to start badgering you feverously about the where abouts of HTTV. Until then, take care, find comfort in your family and friends and the ones you love, and take your time getting back.
So sorry for your loss, Seth. Take solace in the wonderful memories that you and he shared.
how sorry I am to hear this. My Father died in 1999, 2 weeks shy of his 53rd birthday in much the same fashion. I was at work one day and I got a call and it was already over. Still hurts. My heart goes out to you and your family. Remember the good times, and pass his lessons on to your children.
My thoughts are with you and your family; sincere condolences on your loss.
Sorry to hear Seth. Best wishes to you and your family.
Losing a parent is difficult to understand until you've been through it. It sounds like he was a terrific man who left you and your family with many happy memories. That's not a bad run, by my lights.
... for your loss. My condolances.
RIP Misteropogon.
The sudden loss is usually the hardest. My father's death was a sudden surprise made more difficult since it was my mother who was dying of cancer at the time. Dads are our rocks and being one is the best job ever. Having a 12 year old, I tell him I already know what kind of man he will be and the success he will have. How? he asks. Because dads just know. Dads always know.
Seth, your dad undoubtedly was proud of the man you are and already knew of the success yet to come. Because he's your dad, and he just knows.
...on the Ira Kaufman web site.
Was so sorry to hear the news.
He was definitely taken too soon.
May your memories of your father be a blessing and somewhat of a comfort.
and no doubt he was proud as hell that his values were getting passed on to his grandchildren. He'll live on through them, and through you. Condolences.
I'm very sorry to hear that. Hang in there Seth.
