META: Do we really need 175 Snowflake threads?

Submitted by atticusb on

Wasn't the point of having a single snowflake thread to keep from having a million random post-game threads??

The idea behind the snowflake threads was to find a reasonably effective way to contain hot takes while still preserving some decent discussion within them, hence the major subcategories. Unless there is a need or there is a special allowance, you shouldn't see more than 4-5 threads of that variety most weeks. I think that's reasonable personally, although I might be biased here.

They're perfect.

Take the snowflake threads away for one week and people will be BEGGING for them.

In fact, this thread would already be on the 3rd page because everyone would need a thread for their own hot take. Because their thought is so much more important than the thread before them.

About as much as we need multiple what-are-you-drinking threads every week. If you don't want to read them, don't. Nobody's got a gun to your head.
