Men's Lacrosse vs. Holy Cross, Today 1PM

Submitted by L'Carpetron Do… on February 19th, 2022 at 12:46 PM

Men's Lacrosse (2-0) hosts Holy Cross (0-2) today at 1PM at the State Street facility; it will be aired on BTN+.  The Crusaders dropped their season opener to Providence 16-9 and are coming off a 28(!)-5 pasting at the hands of perennial powerhouse Syracuse (for those who don't know lacrosse, scores over 20 are somewhat rare and 28 goals is almost unheard of in Div. 1).

Michigan itself may have a new identity as a high-flying offense, having scored 22 and 20 in its first two games against Bellarmine and Detroit Mercy.  So, Holy Cross could be in for another long day.  Other than that, there's not much to say about this one. At the very least, it will give Michigan a chance to break in some new players, work on some stuff and establish a rhythm for the rest of the season.  They're back at it on Tuesday at home against Canisius at 1PM.  GO BLUE!

I did some brief searching (looked at laxpower first which I believe signifies my distance in paying attention to lacrosse) and Inside Lacrosse had Michigan "receiving votes".

I see their results look solid thus far- do we think we can make a push this year (obviously going to be tough with Maryland in conference).

I have a feeling they could put together a real good season this year.  Early part of the schedule is very doable and there's a legit possibility they could roll into South Bend at 8-0 on March 19th (although Delaware will be a strong test before that).  And M is picked to finish 4th in the B1G this year, Penn State and Ohio State look to be a little down and I'm not sold on Hopkins' high ranking to start the season. I think that this year could be different for Michigan, just hope I'm right.

Michigan is working on a shut-out, 8-0 after the first half. The twitter account says that's the first time M has shut out a team in a half in program history.  And somehow they only had 17-12 edge on shots. Sounds like a weird game.

Michigan got quality shots with free hands, while holy cross was forcing things near the end of the shot clock or from further out.  It was a bit of a weird game though but lots of guys got some run.

I am definitely not sold on Hopkins.  Penn state or Ohio state could still put together a nice run by the end of the year, so it’s still tough to predict where we’ll land in the big10.

Yeah, it's always hard to tell. And these blowouts don't really tell you much. I don't know why Penn State and Ohio State aren't expected to be good, they're usually tough outs. I guess the book on Ohio State is wrong this year because they're beating #5 UNC by 10 goals at the moment. I just hope this is a fun, successful season for Michigan, the program could sure use it.
