Men's BB roster set
Beilein says he sees no more roster attrition. Story at Mlive.
Edit: LeVert decision pending.
It was his spot that went to Wagner.
I don't think this means the roster is set but he doesn't expect anymore movement with current roster.
I guess I'm somewhat ignorant about how college basketball recruiting works, but the roster planning seems kind of difficult.
To be recruiting two years in advance in order to be in on guys and then can get hit with last minute transfers and early entry departures.
about waiting to see who leaves early doesn't really fit with the JB model. Beilein wants guys who, as he says, want to unpack and embrace the college experience. That doesn't mean one-and-dones need not apply but to be so matter of fact about plans to enter the NBA just seems out of step with JB.
Every coach in America will make an exception to what they usually recruit when dealing with talent of his caliber.

for Brown, instead of taking Wagner? Or, does he only want him if LeVert leaves?
Or maybe he decided the sure thing was better than holding a spot open for Brown. There's a difference between recruiting Brown, a theoretical one and done, and passing on talented players at the risk of coming up empty with Brown. If they locked Brown down earlier, he would have taken the spot. Just because a player is a 5 star talent-aka one and done-doesn't mean you pass on other possibilities out there. He recruited both Brown and Wagner with hopes of getting or or both, depending on how the situation plays out. We have one, Wagner. Beilein went outside his typecast mold by recruiting Brown, but made a judgment call to take Wagner. Probably for good reason.
There is a spot for Brown if he wants it. Even if Levert stays, Hatch could go on medical and still honor his scholarship.
I will admit I have been harsh on Beilein this season, probably too harsh. I just think it was hard for the team to adjust without having Nik, and then the injuries just blew everything up. I think getting Wagner will really help. Hopefully all the experience the young guys got this season will help. Onward and upwards.
So basically it's LeVert stays or Brown? There's no situation where we can have both? Why can't we put Hatch on medical and make him a head manager/GA type role. Still a part of practice, basically a coach and a Director of Basketball Ops in training.
Should I just be ignoring this thread?
I think the general consensus, from what I've read, is that if Brown wants to commit, he's got a spot. I think Ace wrote about it as well when doing the write up on Moritz Wagner yesterday. If Brown commits, Hatch will go on medical scholarship.

*Except for players that might be leaving and players that might be coming.
It sounds like Levert could still go pro, Hatch could go on medical, and we are still recruiting at least one more player. I would say there is around a 50% chance that the roster could still see an impactful change.
Brown is headed to KU in my opinion. I'd love if he chose us but I see a perfect fit in Bill Self's system. Also KU is in the discussion for the title every year, even though they only make a deep run every few years. It is tough to turn down an environment that the Jayhawks have, great fans, top facilities, great tradition, awesome arena. If Brown chooses Michigan I will be pleasantly surprised.
