Mel Kiper on Michigans' chances IF Shea Patterson is eligible

Submitted by Wolverine91 on

I know some of you guys don't like Kiper and/or mlive but I thought I post this for some encouraging news football related.

It's nice to see a draft "expert" predict this even though it means very little. He's the type of player that will rejuvinate the team and the fanbase immedietely, if eligible. Considering the dud we've had so far this year, I'll take it.

Umbig11 doesn’t want to try to draw an insane amount of attention because he has some sort of agreement with Rivals so he usually posts nuggets in threads instead of posting new threads that will certainly blow up and perhaps gain too much attention If you know what I mean. I am dying to know what is going on behind the scenes with Pep and Drev the last couple of months, though . In December, Umbig11 initially made it seem like one or both of them would be gone and so there must be some interesting stuff going on that I realize UMBig11 naturally can’t say much at this time . I also realize there may be some good info on it on paywall boards which I currently don’t have a subscription anywhere .

Unreal how things have gone internally. There are still some moving parts, but I am going to end up losing a bet to one of the Glick’s with regard to changes. There are only one or two announcements to come.

Shea Pattersons hype is a bit silly. He's put up pretty mediocre numbers and has been extremely turn-over prone. If he doesn't see some sort of "leap" under Harbaugh then he isn't going to be anywhere near the savior people want him to be.

Meanwhile, Michigan is coming off an 8-5 season that saw it crack the College Football Playoff rankings for a week. The Wolverines boasted the 105th ranked offense nationally while, through a mix of injuries and unsatisfactory play, starting three different quarterbacks.

This must have been your first year watching college football. Otherwise you would know that shit like this means absolutely zero. Hell, God could come down and tell us what he thinks will happen next season, and it would mean almost nothing. Posting what this clown has to say is pointless.

Easier said than done. Evidence =Last decade of Michigan football sans 2011 season where lady luck was on Michigan's side in several games.

I am going to assume Shea is our QB because i believe he is our most talented and i think the NCAA has to give us a break for once.

We MUST keep this kid upright and let him extend plays...That OLine better be working OT, they are the key to UM success

Shea could be better than Brady, Namath, Montana, and Favre combined, but it won't mean much if the OL can't give him time to throw.  Hopefully there is at least some improvement on that front.

Yeah, it is pretty amazing how quickly people soured on him when he wasn't Chad Henne from day 1. That kind of freshman QB performance is the exception not the norm, even for highly rated prospects like Henne and Peters.

Please tell me what tools you saw that would make you believe he is the man. Trust me I would love for him to be the man I did not see anything remotely special in the small sample size. I don’t believe anyone really thought he was the man before the bowl game either it was more of a just wanted okorn out. Every one loves the backup qb until the backup qb plays. In regards to a 2nd year freshman highly touted recruit being expected to play...yes I expected him to be ready and thought he looked like a backup that was better than what they had so they had no choice to play him, and thought his bowl game was awful. How many great college qbs do you know that don’t make an instant impact when it’s their time. Ohio’s qb was ready and shredded us.

With the returning D along with some talented skill players with experience on offense (DPJ, Evans, Higdon, McKeon, Gentry, Black) and some talented offensive linemen with experience (Ruiz, Onwenu, Spanellis, Bredeson), this team could be special.  We have all had our expectations crushed by a very poor season, but we were not that far off.  We all know the weakness at offensive tackle, and I don't want to understate that either.   But, this team is stacked at nearly every other postiion, so count me in as an optimist for this season!
