Mel Kiper on Michigans' chances IF Shea Patterson is eligible

Submitted by Wolverine91 on

I know some of you guys don't like Kiper and/or mlive but I thought I post this for some encouraging news football related.

It's nice to see a draft "expert" predict this even though it means very little. He's the type of player that will rejuvinate the team and the fanbase immedietely, if eligible. Considering the dud we've had so far this year, I'll take it.

The utter incompetence of last year's offense has completely shattered my faith in this coaching staff.   Lack of player development, outright player regression, terrible play calling and schemes, sheer ineptitude across the board.

Hopefully it's just a one-year blip like '16 appears to have been for MSU.  Having said that, until I see otherwise my expectation is that our offense this year will greatly resemble what it was a year ago, regardless of who we have under center.   This is something I hope and pray I end up being wrong about.   Had last year's offense been merely average, we would have been in the hunt for Indy.

The lack of a running game has crippled the entire team. When has a michigan running back rushed for a 1,000 yards in a season? Until the offensive line can block and a back can run consistently for 80-120 yards per game, the passing game alone is not going to lead to 9 wins in a season. Add to that problem receivers dropping passes like last year, a defense which can't stop an opponent in the second half because it's exhausted and you have another 8 win season orchestrated by high piced Harbaugh. Another middle of the pack finish that michigan is known for since Carr left.

I’m going to say the same thing in this thread that I say in every other similar thread.

I don’t care who starts. It can be Patterson. It can be Milton. If the OL does not improve drastically, whoever is under center is being set up to fail.
