McMurchy on Gottlieb show

Submitted by tomer on

In car so don't have a link. McMurchy is on the show right now. Straight up said that there is even worse stuff out there that he can't disclose for unspecified reasons.

Kind of a weird statement. Why wouldn't he be able to disclose this stuff that's supposedly worse? And honestly, how much worse could it be? I'm finding that hard to believe.

Maybe he's looking for a legit media outlet to carry the story (and get paid). Or maybe he's holding off until he can double and triple verify some parts of the story or give some folks implicated a chance to respond. Or someone asked him to wait for some legitimate purpose.

Maybe it goes straight to the top! The top, I tells ya!!!

There are lots of reasons, such as:

1. Anything that you can't print as an on-the-record accusation from a specific person, but rather as a general allegation, opens you up to the risk of a libel lawsuit if the information turns out later to be untrue.

2. His sources may have given him certain information in confidence, on the condition that he doesn't publish it. Sources often give information in confidence because they fear that they will be fingered as the source if it ever comes out. An ex-wife would be a perfect example of this.

Agree with CF. There are lots of reasons a reporter chooses not to publish things. Given all the scrutiny on what the media does and does not (or should and should not) publish in the last couple of years, the rules are pretty clear and accessible to more of the audience.

If he hears rumors that he thinks are true but doesn't have a source to confirm them, he can't publish it. If someone confirms information off the record and adds some detail (let's say, hypothetically, about known infidelity) but isn't willing to provide that on the record, he can't publish it. If he knows of something but has yet to be able to confirm it (let's say, hypothetically, an accusation that athletic department administrators were aware of abuse) he can't publish it.

There are any number of possibilities and many legitimate reasons not to put them in print (or on facebook, as the case may be). It is particularly important in today's media environment not to overstep and open up a story to criticism. If he prints one allegation that is unfounded or unprovable, people will attack that one issue and use it to discredit the entire story.

It's a comment that invites speculation. That's something where some caution is advisable. But what would be even worse and how would he have learned of it?

I think it's reasonably safe to guess it's related to his first story. The second part is easy to guess. From people he contacted while trying to confirm his initial story.

The first part would be bad if it involved trying to keep people quiet. Worse if it involved trying to influence investigations.

I don't think this requires it's own thread, but can we all do the same psycho analysis of this Cardale Jones tweet that we did of the John O'Korn tweet from the other day?

I was wondering about this. The JOK tweet had a full two-day news cycle. Will people even notice this?

If this blows over and Urban isn't seriously punished, how likely is it that people bring up the O'Korn tweet as part of a "narrative" on Harbaugh while completely ignoring something like this that is about a much more serious issue?

We aren't really thinking that OSU - if forced to fire Urban - will tank like it's 2011 all over again?

I haven't done any roster comps, but this OSU roster is loaded to the point where the Cinci Moeller head coach could probably interim and generate a 10-win season. #hottakez

What I've tried to do here is what happens when you use the <oembed>URL</oembed> code, so I don't know whether you're trying to embed a video, a photo or a tweet, but the "jpg" at the end of the URL suggests that it's an image.

If you're working on a PC (as I am, using Chrome) and trying to insert an image to your comment, then you first have to save the image to your computer's photo files and label it so that it will be easy to locate in your photo files.

Next, left click on the image icon that you'll see in the bar above the comment box.  That's the Imce FIle Manager.  Left click on the Upload button.  That will bring up a box that says "Add file".  Left click in "Add file" that box.

That will open a box that shows your computer's files. Left click on your photo files and locate the image that you want to insert in your comment box.

Left click on that photo image and you should see the photo image appear in the comment box. Left click on the Select button in the bar above the comment box.  That should save the image in your comment box.

You can resize the image by left clicking on the black square that appears in the lower right of the image and moving your mouse to adjust the size of the image.

Finally, left click on the Save button below the comment box to save your post.

I'm surprised and disappointed that the MGoBlog staff hasn't inserted something under their "Useful Stuff" menu that would provide advice as to how to insert images and embed videos and tweets for MGoBlog 3.0.

Heard the interview in the car.  I believe the worse stuff he's referring to is the domestic abuse.  May not have anything to do with OSU or Urban.

Also, I don't know if it was the same interview or not, but someone definitely said that Smith told his ex-wife that he couldn't be fired because he'd take "all of them" down with him.  That could explain why he wasn't fired before.
