MBB vs Wisc Snowflakes

Submitted by Chicken22 on

Not a ton to say but a lot of interesting things happened. We lost 68-57.

Duncan hit some shots.Irvin had a ton of turnovers. We missed wide-open layiups. We shot less threes, and that wasn't the focal point of our offense. We shot a lot of mid-range. Doyle played better than Donnal (both played bad defense, but Doyle played well on offense.) One of their seniors had an amazing moment.

Seriously.  This is basically the exact same team that went 16-16 last year (right down to losing Caris for about half of the season), and they're 20-9 and likely to make the tourney.  It's been disappointing, sure, but with Levert we're probably got at least 2-3 more wins, looking at a 6 seed, and we're talking about being a dark horse sweet 16 team.  We once again lose nothing next year (we've already lost Levert).  We should be solid, especially if we find a true playmaker.

Just because literally every player who doesn't have a career-ending injury will have another year of experience and we'll have some new blood? Yeah. That's actually a very good reason. The team should have been better this year even with Spike and Levert out, and it's been disappointing the last 2 years, but some people are way too down on Beilein.

Also, you should probably read the 2nd sentence of his post.

Here's my snowflake- I picked this as the last W. I'll put down the kool-aid.

We really shouldn't be surprised at this team. They've been relatively pedestrian all year and people act surprised when a better team beats them.

The trend isn't optimal and one more year like these last two will probably be the end of the JB era

I actually posed this question as a poll on twitter so I might as well do it here, too-

Which is worse?

Making the NCAA and getting killed in the First Round

OR

Winning the NIT

But what does making it in as a 10 seed mean if we pull an Indiana game again?

My answer to this is that they're essentially the same, but at least you get to end your season on a high note in the latter choice.

I will lose no sleep over this because whatever selection show our name pops up on, this season will not be what we wanted.

Recruits won't be blown away with either of those things happening.

We don't know if the team is improving or not, but we do know that other teams are improving more than we are. Donnal has improved, Kam has improved, Rahk has improved. Who knows if those 5 games make things click for a guy like D.J. Wilson. But to pass up an extra five games is stupid in my opinion.

They are not the same in my opinion. Making the tournament is always better than a consolation prize. Winning the NIT would be torture in that it reminds you every game played that the team is not in the "real" tournament. No participation trophies please.

I'm not saying we haven't lost games badly. I'm just saying I don't want to lose like MSU did in the playoffs. It's an obvious statement, but it was in response to the comment about winning the citrus bowl vs winning the big ten and losing in the playoffs. I think that citrus bowl was a good matchup for the talent level we had last year. I think we would have beaten Iowa in the Big Ten title had we gotten there though.

I think (as I suspect you do) that this was a good, but not great team. I'm happy they finished the year out on a high note, return most of the team and have 2016 to look forward to. Would I like to win the big ten? Yes. Do I think we were good enough to win it last year? No. Players mature and improve, Michigan will hopefully be elite this year. I'm happy with a win in the citrus bowl last year, but I expect a big ten title this year.
