MBB: 5*C Mo Bamba: "Michigan is Still Involved"

Submitted by BursleyHall82 on

Five-star C Mohamed Bamba, the No. 2 player in the country, talked to reporters after his game last night and gave a final four of Duke, Kentucky, Texas ... and Michigan. Bamba took an official here in the fall.

"Michigan is still involved," he said.

I'm not getting my hopes up, but I'd say our chances are better than Jim Carrey in Dumb & Dumber.

Sounds like the typical Beilein is hard at him trying to save his job... " I talk to Michigan every now and then." Smh! I want a coach who can recruit. Period. Or a coach who wants/likes recruiting. Same thing happened w/ jaylon brown. Kentucky was on his ass till the final hour and we were just kind a letting whatever happened happen, granite he committed to California but I guarantee Kentucky was second.

They need to get involved with Emoni Bates pretty soon, I know he's only in middle school but the kid is a beast and will be better than Josh Jackson. Can't miss superstars in your own backyard

He only hears from the Michigan coaches "every now and then." This has been a pattern with JB and his staff gerltting totally outworked by other staffs on the recruiting trail. I have a lot of respect for JB but there are reasons why he is a below average recruiter and effort seems to be one of them. That shouldn't happen.

McGary sort of had a disappointing year when he got injured and didn't play, but had he come back (and played), Michigan might have gone to the final four or even won.   He would have been a legend.  He still sort of is.  A guy like Mo Bamba could have that same sort of impact at a Michigan even though we are a football school.  At Kentucky or Duke,  they have so many of these top guys that I'm guessing they get lost in the mix.  Especially if they are all one and done kids.    Does playing on a Duke or Kentucky prepare a kid more for the NBA playing with all of those guys in practice?   I'm not sure which is the better situation.

“That was my first official visit, so that kind of set the tone,” Bamba told ESPN. “Obviously Michigan is probably one of the greatest universities in the world and it’s set to such a high standard, as far as academically and athletically. They do things the right way.”

Sounds like a great kid looking for a corruption-free scholar-athlete kinda thing.

I'm also suspecting that Michigan's a draw for progressives -- witness all the hyphenated. (I know, I know -- politics. But this is relevant!)

It would be wonderful to have Mohamed Bamba at Michigan.

Could we combine Bill Frieder and John Beilein into one coach?  Maybe we can call him John Frieder or Bill Beilein?

Frieder was an awesome recruiter, but was a terrbile X's and O's guy, where Beilein is a good X's and O's guy, but a terrible recruiter.

Does anyone think that the early exit of Duke coupled with all the headlines we've been making changes the outlook? It sure feels to me that everyone in the media wants Michigan to win so they can write an op-ed about the crash and bringing the team together. Bet Mitch Albom already has a catchy headline on a piece of paper somehwere. Maybe I'm just reading too much into our current success and hoping some how it will bleed into his recruitment. I can not even imagine what we could do here. Seems like Wagner and Wilson going off and upping their draft value can't hurt?
