MBB: 5 Star Guard Jaden Springer commits to Tennessee

Michigan was in the final 3 along with Memphis but this is no surprise as every crystal ball predicted him to Tennessee. He's a top 20 player and now gives Tennessee a recruiting class of 2 5 stars and another top 40 player.

Michigan is now waiting on top 50 SG/SF Moses Moody, top 40 C Hunter Dickinson and top 30 C Mark Williams to commit in the coming weeks.

Williams is committing in 9 days an widely expected to go to Duke.

Dickinson is down to Duke, Michigan, ND and FSU. There's no date for his announcement but experts think he is going to commit after Williams does since the thought is he doesn't want to go to the same school as another top 40 C in his class. He has said he wants to commit before his HS season starts. There's no definitive feel on who leads but Michigan is the common thought.

Moody is down to Arkansas (home state) and Michigan. He has not committed to signing during the early period but it's very possible he does. The thought here is that he wants to leave the state (he currently plays HS at Montverde Academy in Florida with Zeb Jackson) but that family wants him at home. Michigan has a good shot here but the longer this goes on the more uncertain it gets, especially with new schools like Virginia trying to get in the mix.

Longer term Michigan has a few targets for the late signing period as well, namely 5 stars Nimari Burnett and Joshua Christopher.

By all accounts, Beilein didn't help himself much on the recruiting trail in terms of relatability. Great coach, but sounds like he was basically a hardass in general despite Mr Rogers vibe that many people assumed. That's fine. He won a lot doing it his way. Maybe could've won a bit more, though, had he played the "show the love game" more. Who knows.

The whole "you need to step on campus before I offer you" really didn't help because so many of these kids are collecting scholarship offers left & right then you have Beilein saying nope you can't have one until you come here first.

If I'm a kid, I don't know that I want to use an official visit to a place that won't bother offering me because it may be a wasted visit that I could have used to check out some other university

Through 7 games this seasons he's got 17 tackles (4 solo, 13 assisted) and 1 sack with nothing turnover related. That's 2.5 tackles per game, 0.15 Sacks per game.  I've not seen any of their games but that's certainly not impressive - similar to what he'd had his freshman year at Michigan. I didn't realize he only had 3 tackles last year at Michigan - I know he was hurt for a chunk and only played in 5 games but woof.

Cal, Barnes, Oats, Musselman, Pearl, Crean, and White are all very good coaches.

I personally feel that part of the allure of coaching in the SEC is because people don't care about rules as much down there, but these are all high quality coaches.

It's a weird mix of good coaches and, well, guys who know how to get things by various means (in particular Cal and Pearl).

It is nice to see the SEC be a bit better at basketball after what felt like forever it being UK, Florida, and nobody else.

Thanks for the thorough, fact-filled post OP, this was a great update.

Buuuut are you sure you wouldn't rather post a meandering rant on your personal opinion about the football team?

Depth!!! What the hell are you talking about??? This kid is an elite player-superior PG skills who can be a SG as well. He is a deadly combination of talent. If he comes he will start-and VERY early his freshman year...he would start this year. The kid is damn good.

Howard could work wonders with Dickinson. Hopefully that draws him to Michigan, the chance to learn from a coach with the pedigree as an NBA big man such as Howard.

Other than Howard (mostly) and Saddi, I've not heard anything about Martelli or Eisley recruiting. Howard will resonate with the bigs but Eisley, who played in the NBA, could work magic with guards. Martelli has a ton of connections as well. Just havent heard anything about those two.
