This will be the repository for hot takes regarding the overall coaching performance.

The play calling was questionable if not disappointing.  Give Coach Hart credit for helping Blake develop into a total stud runner.  Secondary is very well coached.   There were some good open field tackles today as well.

Matt Weiss is useless (Vikings thing, bad recruiter, QBs don't seem better) and Minter's defense is not good.

The offense continues to just waste talent with terrible playcalling. Thank god for Corum otherwise the offense would have barely moved. They really need to use RPO/play-action more and please take more shots downfield. It's been the same exact complaints for years.

Defense cannot generate any pressure, they need to blitz more, but I think the whole Ravens style defense isn't very impressive without 2 1st round picks generating constant pressure.

Feels like we won in spite of the coaching.

I agree on the RPO part. But no downfield shots today?? Did you watch the same game I did? We took probably 5 or 6 and only hit 1. I don’t think the coaching was A+ today but that’s not an accurate representation of what took place. If JJ hits more than one this game is probably not as close as it ended up being.

There's a deep option on almost every pass play, it's not that the coaches are yelling across the field to JJ to throw deep or giving him the "throw the long touchdown" play.  JJ chose to toss them, not the coaches, and he was probably correct to do so on most of them, just inaccurate.  JJ needs to get better and he very likely will.

I swear nobody here has a memory better than a Junebug:  ow, that fire is hot... ow, that fire is hot... ow, that fire is hot... dead.

Do you remember last year at all? Do you remember the commentary here on the board through four games? Nobody learns. Just make loud noises.

Sloppy mess of a game. Maryland was playing disciplined and looked like a top-25 team. JJ finally looked like a first year starter, and play calling at times did not favors. Defense was sloppy too…they had flashes of good play but giving up that TD to their backup is not great.

All that being said, Michigan won. Lots to clean up but there’s no reason to doom this team yet. This was the Rutgers game from last year, except this Maryland team is probably better and will win some games this year if Taulia can stay healthy

it’s good to see the team face adversity and overcome. It’s good to see them win despite playing so sloppy at times. Coaches best case scenario- tons of film to watch and correct, but you do it in a win.

On to Iowa.

Maryland - A very good team - Look back later and I think we will see that as they are going to win and surprise some teams coming up.

I will NOT be surprised if they beat Michigan State next week at all.

Ugly at times but a challenging game that we needed.  Soooo glad for the win.

Said it earlier but man Blake was lights out today.

Seems like more than a few of you forgot the Rutgers, Nebraska, and Penn State games last year. As the man said, RELAX

This board always overreacts to a close game.

Having said that, it was an ugly game. Defensively, I'm not all that surprised; Maryland has some talent on offense. I am a bit disappointed at the long fourth down conversions Maryland made, though.

Offensively, let's hope they're able to use the film from this game to make some improvements.

Looked very vanilla on both sides of the field. I can only hope it's to keep the playbook hidden as long as possible until we play the other division contenders.

I don't know if you're suffering from memory loss, so hear me out if this surprises you: Michigan won the Big Ten Title last year and went to the playoffs. They accomplished this feat despite looking bad against Rutgers early in the season. It was not an off year for Ohio State with their #2 ranking and undefeated conference record going into the final game of their season.

So tell me again how Michigan managed the end-of-season accomplishment despite only running the plays they show on film every week, including against Rutgers. Hutchinson didn't score 42 points against Ohio State and Iowa (he contributed to reducing their points scored though).

F*ck the we won narrative. Coaches own tbis fiasco of an effort. Maryland was up and down the field a lot of the day! Blake saved the day!! Btw don’t ya just love how the 2nd string QB drove Maryland for a TD at the end! 🥺🥺🤬

My gut says a lot of this can be chalked up to having to adjust to a huge jump in opponent quality on the fly. Reminds me a lot of the Nebraska game last year: frustrating game with a lot of mental and coaching errors that we’re just happy to escape with a win.

Harbaugh just needs to hand the play calling/planning off to someone. It's blatantly obvious that when things go a little off, he takes over and just calls Book of Hoyle BS. It limits the offense and hurts recruiting. No way is the 5-star WR visiting for today's game picking Mich over Maryland now

You know, anytime we don’t like the play-calling, the “Harbaugh took over the bad play-calling and made it worse” narrative comes up.

So at what point do you think Harbaugh took over the play-calling and why did he then suddenly give it up right before the last TD drive where they finally looked in sync with some semblance of a rhythm?

I thought the run Corum made on the 4th and 1 was called. Team ran hurry up and then look at Bell blocking out there to open up the lane.

EDIT: I mean that I think the lane he chose was the called play.

New coordinators and it showed. Need them to coach up the players and also to learn from it. I was disappointed about the first two offensive drives after the half. Thank God D made some adjustments.

A lot of coaching moments in this game and things for coordinators to learn from.

We had a few duds last year but kept grinding and blew out OSU. So, I am hopeful as there are good pieces in there.

It's not often you think to yourself, "that win may have cost us some recruits."

But that's exactly what I thought as I watched a 5 star QB and the most talented group of WRs in the conference (outside of JSN) basically ignored in favor of Michigan Lizard Brain Offense.

Yes ... and also JJ overthrew several deep balls which honestly has not been typical for him.  First true entire game start for him and I think that will get solved quickly.  Had he hit a couple of those throws the score would of been much higher.  WR's (if watching) for sure would like to see all those deep balls being thrown.

Didn't like the play calling to open the 3rd quarter, all running to Blake Corum. I mean come on, they went to well too often. Not only on one drive but the next one as well. It was frustrating at times. Defensive was about the players making plays and not the play calling from the sidelines.
