Malachi Coleman cancels visit

4*ATH and Nebraska decommit cancelled his visit to UM this weekend per his twitter. He's visiting Colorado instead. He didn't say anything about rescheduling.

I love it Deon is going to crash and burn. I don’t think he’s much better than Mel Tucker. He will get 1-2 years of above average recruiting, then it will slow down. The future is easy to see with this one.

Imagine if JH started in D2 the hype would be just as crazy lol.

Remember how Harbaugh used to do all kinds of public stunts and publicity?  Then it didn't really matter without the wins.  Then he stopped doing all that and just coached and they’ve been winning for the last two years.  The shiny objects, fluff, and newest fad doesn’t matter in the end, just win baby.  And Michigan knows how to identify and develop talent.

It might be wishful thinking but staying away from the kids who chase the money might be a huge benefit down the road knowing they will get better and get drafted after they work their tail off and get coached up.  The kids looking for handouts will be in the portal more often than not.  Sanders puts on a good show and sure can talk, but we will see what he can do and if he stays.

The more things, the more they stay the same. I remember Bo's first book (got it for Christmas late 1980s signed by him) where he mentioned some guy who was wavering between ND and UM in the early 1970s. The guy chose ND and Bo got Dave Gallagher to fill the last spot and he was an All American.

I'm confident with Santa O that we will find a way to make NIL work at UM without becoming TAMU.

The takeaway for this shouldn't be "boo Coleman" and I don't really see anyone doing that so that's good. The takeaway should be that in order to hire Deion the school had to commit to the NIL and Portal as an institution. Sanders knows that in P5 modern CFB, you cannot sustain any level of success without it. Especially not if your main point of hire is your ability to get the attention of very talented athletes.

Some schools may still find success by being a terrific producer of unidentified talent. I can name a few schools that will probably do just that without a huge NIL program. Deion isn't on that path. He's not that guy. He's a guy that wants to go into the schools & homes of top-100 kids and knock their socks off. Why? That works when done right.

Colorado openly committed to that in his opening presser. Lowering transfer standards and lining up money for players. That is what fans here should care about more as that hurts UM the most right now. Not saying UM should be TA&M! My first priority would be sorting out the transfer issue, then get a bit more competitive on the NIL front.

This is going to be a thing for a while. Especially if they start winning games. But that’s recruiting for you. It just is what it is.

Probably won’t be too long before recruits that Michigan thinks it has in the bag, or worse yet, even as verbal commits, start reconsidering their options about heading to Boulder.

It does seem very, very Michigan that once Michigan regained some national prominence the entire system experienced a sea change where players care less about results than ever.

In an age where you can get paid and leave whenever you want to another program, very few give a damn about on-field results or what the staff can do for you.

"Fuck you, pay me" right after a decade of "these schools recruit the best because they constantly win". Almost like that was never the reason those schools recruited so well...

Deion will get some guys, which I'm OK with. He hasn't truly stolen a UM recruit so I'm fine. The guy's either going to rule the USC/UCLA PAC or flame out. I'm hoping he does well and starts to impact places like Texas, where Sark is still considered a great coach while going 13-11 in 2 years.

If he committed to Frost then "Coach Prime," it would appear that Coleman prefers sizzle to steak.  Happy trails, young man.  Maybe we'll be seeing you in the portal down the road.

TJ - thanks.  I wasn't aware of which Jackson State players that Deion coached have made it to the NFL.   And, my perspective isn't to "neg" - it's just that I don't know.

My hope for every student athlete is for their success, good health, and happiness - both academically and athletically.   And, that they leverage the opportunity they have to learn and be able to support themselves and their families in their chosen profession / field of endeavor.

My personal opinion is that Prime will be the Penny Hardaway of college football. He’ll get prized recruits and pull top 10 classes, but will not get it done. The allure and charisma will bring them in but coaching against these big times coaches will show the ineptitude of Primes X’s and O’s. Just my take.

The strange thing about guys wanting to "play for Deion" is they aren't even old enough to remember him playing in the NFL.  He retired in 2005 when most of these recruits were 1 year old.  After that he was just a talking head on several NFL shows.       The proof will be in wins and loses.  I don't expect Colorado to be very good over the next several years, and by then the Primetime hype train won't be as shiny anymore, and he'll just be "another coach"

Could be money. Could be that a really high-profile coach just showed up at a school historically connected to his roots (Nebraska/Colorado rivalry inside the Big 12 footprint).
