Madison Roll Call

Submitted by Walter Sobchak on
Good Thursday morning everyone. Who else is making the trek to Madison this weekend? This is our first trip to Madison after going to Evanston, West Lafayette, Champaign, and Minneapolis the last few years. We are heading out tomorrow AM after working a bit. We hope to see lots of you there. Anyone taking in both football and hockey? Beat Wisconsin!

I’m going to the football game. I started a goal of watching Michigan play in all of the big ten stadiums a few years ago. Camp Randall will be stadium #9 of 14.

I’m either going to tailgate or watch some of college game day in person. Maybe both. Does anybody know if you can drink at the college game day location?

I did grad school at UW-Madison for 4 years and stayed to work for 3 more years, and I finally had to move away this last summer.  In that time, I started my career, met and married my wife, and had our first baby.  I really gained my entire identity in those 7 years in Madison, and I became very attached to the university and the city, but I never got to see the maize and blue in Camp Randall!  Sadly, I can't make it back to Madison this weekend to welcome all of you to the city that still feels like home to me.  It feels very weird and sad, like I'm missing the party that I always wanted to host.  Even though I don't know you, I will miss you all.  Please have lots of fun, eat lots of brats, and drink all the beer.

Tailgating with the enemy. There will be Bourbon, Bloodys, Brats and Beer. Then Victory. Then bedlam on Regent St. A stop by the Union Terrace, Steak at the Tornado Room, pitchers on State St.

I wonder where I'll wake up on Sunday...

Terrace was just officially closed this week, but you can still get a beer at the Rathskellar. But you've got a solid agenda (aside from hopefully the win part).

We'll be up from Chicago with a group of about 26...about a third Badgers and the rest Go Blue. Group is spread across the Q and  Y3.

Gonna try and get into the Old Fashioned for burgers Friday night, then maybe Paul's Club, Plaza, Red Shed, and Monday's. Saturday a house party over by the stadium and Regent St bars.

Yes, I'll be in Madison Saturday, sitting somewhere in the upper deck with poncho at the ready and layers of clothing wrapped around my old body.

But please note that if luck travels, I probably won't be bringing any with me. I was there in 2007 when Chad Henne hardly played and Mike Hart didn't play at all. Ryan Mallett tossed a couple picks and M lost 21-37 ("Super Mario" Manningham had a good 97-yd TD catch-and-run though). I was also there in 2009 when a Rich-Rodriguez-coached and Tate Forcier-led M team got rather pummeled 24-45. And yeah, I was at the Kohl Center back in 2013 when Badger Ben Brust launched the mid-court bomb that sent the BB game into OT and to an eventual M loss.

But Saturday, different team, and importantly, different coaches to neutralize any bad karma that might accompany me. Go Blue!

Didn't see this posted in any of the other replies so hopefully not duplicating any info but the Madison alumni club is organizing meetups at Whiskey Jacks on State St for Friday night and at Sconnie Bar on Regent for pre-game Saturday morning.  Hoping for a strong Wolverine turnout this weekend. Go Blue!
