M Hoops Leads for Texas Tech Transfer Terrence Shannon Jr
It is an admissions issue because they are making decisions about which credits match up.
Bc you know Michigan’s Econ 101 and intro to Asian history classes are so much more superior than other universities.
Absolutely ridiculous.

It’s not about an individual class or academic rigor. You can transfer Econ 101 classes. It’s about money and total number of credits. The university does not want to give degrees to people who do less than 60 credits of 120 at not Michigan.
Its also, despite what gets promoted on this blog, not an unusual stance for many schools that people want to transfer into.

I was just talking with someone whose son transferred from UC Riverside to UC San Diego after his third year. He lost a whole year of credits.
Its standard policy. And honestly it makes sense. The primary reason is revenue generation but even from a credentialing standpoint, the value of a Michigan degree is the status it carries. You don't actually learn different information in organic chemistry or econ or calc when you go to Michigan, MSU, or Grand Valley. If a primary part of the value you provide is the "status" of the degree the school is going to have a vested interest in making sure people getting that degree are a real part of that school.
Its just not some massive recruiting barrier because its common. Maybe its different at Bama and OSU (and I'd guess it isn't) but we don't beat those schools in recruiting for kids out of high school or grad transfers consistently anyways.

Introductory classes aren't the problem.
Most departments put a limit on how many credits can transfer in their major. There are also problems when the player has a major Michigan doesn't offer. That scuttled Nojel Eastern's transfer.
No, they aren't.
The individual department/college you're applying to is.
Will have at least one or two years to pick up those classes for degree before going to the NBA
Either way it’s F’ing stupid. Whatever supposed academic rationale or revenue rationale behind this is seriously outdated and narrow minded.

No, you're wrong. And whether twenty goombahs say it 20 times or not, it's still not an accurate take.
He’s right…when it applies to athletes. They don’t want their prestige diminished by people graduating with a Michigan degree who hardly got a Michigan education, which makes sense. But athletes represent the school more with their athletic ability than academic so who cares if they get a degree with mostly non Michigan credits. It should be altered to be much more lenient for athletes.
The idea that there's some evil little men in admissions trying to keep people out and uphold some absurd idea of Michigan's academic superiority is garbage. The transferred credits have to align with Michigan offerings and then add up, period. We just took a guy from Coastal Carolina, and have taken players from lots of schools with lesser perceived reputations. People want us to relax the regs for players who they are currently in a lather about, and they want to get angry, because Amurrica. Because they're against elitism and resent it unless it operates in their favor because Amurrica. They're against an unfair playing field for Alabama and Clemson unless that playing field can be tilted for Michigan because Amurrica. They're for equality until some tortured idea of exceptionalism serves their immediate purpose better, because we're Michigan until someone kicks our ass and then they're for equality again. They need lives in the worst way. Meanwhile, I'm for maintaining some academic standards and keeping them because I went to Michigan and being a top two public uni means a lot to me. Hope we get him if Juwan wants him.
Jones had graduated from Coastal Carolina he did not transfer any credits. Same with Smith and Chaundee.
But not the same with the multitude of other transfers across numerous Michigan sports including for example the three or four guys who came from junior colleges to the baseball team.
How about developing the Terrance we already have? Terrance Williams slash line was the same as Shannon's - 45/38/78. Williams improved in all areas from year 1 to year 2. He should have gotten more minutes last season, and he should be in line for 20+ minutes per game next season.
Use the portal to find a needed specialist (shooter, perimeter or interior defender), not a guy who would come in and further hinder the development of players already on hithe roster. Coach Howard needs to prioritize the development of the massively talented sophomore class, and Williams.
This comment makes no sense. Terrance Williams is an undersized 4 in any scenario and he took a step forward in 2022 which would suggest he IS being developed. Shannon is a wing, which we desperately needed. The two have nothing to do with each other.
If Williams is an undersized 4, then what was he doing in the game with both Dickinson and Diabate? Who was playing the 3... Moussa? Williams is a wing player, as well as Shannon. If Shannon is on the roster, he'll get starter minutes. If it's at the 2, then Bufkin and Jett's development are hindered. If Shannon plays the 3, then Houstan and Williams will have their development hindered.
Further, I didn't even mention Barnes, who was a pretty decent recruit in his own right. What is he going to do, sit the bench an entire 2nd year, as well. Say Hunter leaves, you'll have to play Reed. You don't have a backup PG, so the Frosh McDaniel gets minutes. I'm certain Jett plays. So now, there's Moussa, Houstan, Williams, Bufkin, Collins, Barnes. With Coach Howard still learning how to play a bench, do you really think they'll go 10 deep with significant minutes throughout? Whose minutes (i.e. development) are you willing to sacrifice for a 1 year rental?
You’re still wrong. Twill is a 4 Jett and Barnes are 3s. We have one 2 on the roster and it’s the young, unproven bufkin. We need a 2nd 2 BADLY. A 2/3 is even better since we’re not great at the 3 either.
I am glad you are not in control of the roster. You would turn down a proven, quality, player at a position of need in the hope not having him will speed up other guys development? Shannon is a better 2 or 3 then we currently have on the roster. You don't build a championship team by turning down talent upgrades to protect the feelings of current players.
Shannon & TWill absolutely do not fill the same role on the team and will not be guarding the same players. How many times did athletic wings and big guards burn us last season? Jett isnt even a freshman yet and Barnes couldnt crack the rotation when we were desperate for someone who could stay in front of an opposing wing.
Should we not recruit anymore this year as the presence of fresh new talent may make our current players nervous? Definitely don't want to bring in a stud guard because then he could be better than our current ones and they would lose minutes. I am absolutely willing to sacrifice literally any player on the teams minutes to be a better overall team. Because the opposite of this believe is just silly.
They play different positions. Shannon is a 2/3 (which this team desperately needs) and Williams is a 3/4

Shannon is like Charles Matthews - a 3 that is athletic enough to guard 2s. However he lacks the handle to play the 2 on offense. We can make up for it by relying on our PG (Collins) and C (Dickinson) to do most of the ball handling (Dickinson as a creator out of post-ups).
Shannon would fill a need for us as someone who can play the 2/3, can shoot the ball at a decent clip, is a solid defender, and can take it to the rack. Bringing him in has no bearing on Terrance Williams who I think will still see an increase in role next year as it seems like Diabate or Houstan could leave

Why not both?
3rd team all Big12. Nice player. Not likely a big difference maker.
On this team? A guy that's 6'6", can shoot, and is very athletic = exactly what they didn't have last year = exactly what everybody wanted last year.
Your comment doesn't make sense. Are you just parroting the recruiting synopsis above, or do you truly believe Michigan doesn't need a good wing player?
I read that there is an admissions hitch issue they're not sure will work. Credits etc... I hope not. This guy would be a huge get

I understand we are a great educational institution, and I'm proud of that.. but the lack of translating credits from other schools is infuriating. When I transferred to UM, I had to retake several classes I'd already aced, and I really don't think UM's version was noticeably better at all. I don't want us to let everyone in, but the elitism from admissions can get old.
Let me know when there is a really good 2/3 that is a grad transfer and I’ll get excited. Much like Harbaugh, this will be the part Juwan figures out early on, that he’s going to have admissions issues most other programs won’t have.

Would be a Huge pick-up! Come on admissions, throw us a bone one time.

Great athlete, nice defender and shooter. Tech fans love him. I'd love this add.

This is exciting news as Shannon is the type of player we badly need.
Still not uncorking the champagne yet because he is not a grad transfer and we don't have a scholly available yet. Hopefully it all plays out since he is a top 5 portal player.
Why do we want this guy instead of Antoine Davis from U of Detroit that is an absolute sharp shooter?
Whew transferring into Michigan is a roller coaster lol. I remember after two years at EMU I had a 3.8 and I was going to transfer because my GF got into U of M. They straight up told me that I'd have to start back over as a freshman to transfer in. So I just waited till grad school to go there lol.
Word! Love this!!!
