The M Den's ProudBox - is it worth the money?

Submitted by MGoBun on August 26th, 2019 at 4:19 PM

I was thinking about treating myself to a ProudBox subscription for this football season.  Has anyone here either gotten it or given one as a gift?  What are the items like?  Is it worth $50 (with shipping) a month?  Or would I be better off either saving my money or just going and picking out a few things on my own?

You're better off saving your money. It's nice, but I wouldn't pay $50 a month for what they give you. (My wife got it for me last year for my birthday). Just buy what you want.

The items will include stuff from Zingerman's, little posters (which I didn't want), household stuff (like a coffee mug which I do use a lot), clothes (hats, socks, t-shirts), that kind of thing.

I guess it depends how much $50 is to you, or how much Michigan gear you buy, but I'd say probably not. I had it for a while but my wife started to get annoyed at the amount of Michigan stuff that was everywhere so I cancelled it because I have to do what she says. You'll also get a bunch of stuff that is kind of stupid.

The idea is cool, but save your money and pick out stuff that you actually want to. I forgot to cancel the subscription for this year and received the box a week ago.  It included a cookie from Zingerman's, a card game (Michigan trivia) and a Wolverine inspired t-shirt from the Mitten State.

My wife got this for me, so I didn't know the price.  At $50/month it's probably not exactly a steal, but it's got some cool shirts and random other items.  Last year I got a nice charcuterie board (not that we ever have charcuterie), a metal water bottle, and some other decent stuff that I don't really need, but is nice to have.

Side note, they come in nice maize and blue boxes that can be turned inside-out and reused.  The kids seem to like those to store things.

Hmmm, seems like the idea might be better than the execution.  I was thinking it might be fun and a bit of a pick-me-up to get a "surprise" package once a month, and Lord knows I could use a bit of cheering up right now due to health issues.  But I think I can probably find something more fun with the money.  Thanks for the input, everyone.
