According to announcers last week it has to be a "Double Biceps Flex".
November 24th, 2019 at 12:08 AM ^
DPJ did a double flex after his unbelievable TD grab.
Refs were just trigger happy last week because of the nature of that rivalry.
November 24th, 2019 at 7:40 AM ^
It seemed like our guys were giving the ball to the ref and THEN flexing this time around. I think the issue was last week they held on to the ball during the flex and that caused the flag.
November 24th, 2019 at 8:07 AM ^
Pretty sure Tarik tossed the ball to the ref, took 2-3 steps away from the play, facing away from everyone, before flexing. That was nothing more than trying to keep the game under control in a crappy way.
Edit: I was wrong - Tarik flexed with the ball last week.
November 24th, 2019 at 9:46 AM ^
the issue was not that he flexed. it was that he tossed the ball away (making the ref walk 2 yards to grab it) instead of giving the ball to the ref
November 24th, 2019 at 10:13 AM ^
"Nature of that rivalry" = "MSU is a criminal squad full of roid-raging, dirty, cheating morons"
November 24th, 2019 at 2:04 AM ^
I hope Michigan's receivers do a lot of flexing next Saturday.
November 24th, 2019 at 12:26 AM ^
They didn’t have the ball like Tarik Last week. He walked away and flexed with the ball last week which the officials considered delaying the game and warranting a personal foul.
Weak but the reality.
November 24th, 2019 at 12:55 AM ^
Not true.
Just so I had facts straight I watched it again. He stood up, flexed - for 1.63 seconds, then flipped the ball forward to....? The camera doesn't show it, but I assume it was a ref. He did no walking away with the ball whatsoever.
November 24th, 2019 at 1:11 AM ^
It's the flexing with the ball, as opposed to flexing without the ball, that drew the flag allegedly. I don't remember if anybody flexed with the ball today.
November 24th, 2019 at 6:51 AM ^
It happened again yesterday. No flag.
November 24th, 2019 at 3:25 AM ^
Exactly. Lewerke got a first down and stood up, extended his arm parallel to the ground and dropped the ball after a second then walked away. This actually fits the delay of game rule, but it wasn't called.
Black was called because they thought it was taunting, which was asinine.
November 24th, 2019 at 6:02 AM ^
Ya know I just watched highlights to see that play because I thought I remember black walking away from the refs. But he didn't. He stood up, turned away from everybody, and flexed. It doesn't make one bit of sense why that move was called.
November 24th, 2019 at 8:29 AM ^
A simple delay without taunting should be a 5 yard penalty...not giving the ball back, preening, etc.
November 24th, 2019 at 8:36 AM ^
So hard to believe that flex with the ball was a delay of game... but KICKING THE BALL OUT OF THE REF’S HANDS WAS NOT?! (2018 Indiana game before half).
November 24th, 2019 at 9:36 AM ^
Exactly right. I was sitting right in front of that one. It was blatant.
November 24th, 2019 at 10:49 AM ^
You're just making shit up... what is this?!
November 24th, 2019 at 10:55 AM ^
I'm sure someone can get the other angle...but here's Bell WITH the ball, flexing.
Approx. 15:45. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ognQWqDZ_XA
November 24th, 2019 at 12:43 AM ^
B1G refs. It's the same guys that said Giles Jackson wasn't down. If I was a ref in today's game I would be embarrassed. I am the biggest homer but I knew he was down in real time. In fact, he was flat on his face down.
November 24th, 2019 at 12:58 AM ^
That was a fuckin head scratcher. In real time for me.
Elbow, forearm, knee, leg, other leg, other elbow. WTF?
November 24th, 2019 at 6:08 AM ^
Definite WTF moment, but love that Jackson played to the whistle even if he knew he was down.
November 24th, 2019 at 8:21 AM ^
Yeah, the refs that called the TD were a mile from where he hit the ground. Aside from the noobs that should have blown it dead, I thought they did the right thing - call the TD until overruled.
November 24th, 2019 at 10:30 AM ^
I think the point is that if there is any ambiguity you let the play continue and fix it during replay. Its easy to go back and say he was down, but if you blow it dead prematurely there is no way to go back and award him the TD he might have gotten.
November 24th, 2019 at 12:52 AM ^
I would speculate last week refs told both teams there would be no leeway in regards to taunting in an attempt to try to keep the game in order.
November 24th, 2019 at 1:00 AM ^
Yeah. And the sun wasn’t even out.
November 24th, 2019 at 1:57 AM ^
Nico, DPJ, and Tarik are super tight. They prob made it a point to flex after any big play. Nico and DPJ def did it after TDs and any flag at that point is enforced on the kick. Not nearly as bad as taking the flag during a drive where it sets you back
November 24th, 2019 at 3:04 AM ^
The Ohio Fan Boy Choir wasn't officiating the game. Get your ass ready next week for O'Neil and his clown car of shit heads to enter the Big House.
November 24th, 2019 at 6:55 AM ^
You seem angry, everything ok? Haha
You’re absolutely right though.
November 24th, 2019 at 8:24 AM ^
So you get down voted for an obviously sarcastic sentence. People wouldn't generally suck so much if they had more common sense...
November 24th, 2019 at 8:04 AM ^
Not sure on this, but since we had that crew for ND we may not get them again.
November 24th, 2019 at 8:43 AM ^
We’ve only had them once, and there’s been three games played since. Also, that crew hasn’t done an OSU game since before our game with ND.
November 24th, 2019 at 8:36 AM ^
Doesn't matter who it is. The B1G has too much to lose if Mich wins for them to get a fair shake in the officiating department.
November 24th, 2019 at 7:41 AM ^
This is the most inconsistent area of officiating right now-the calls/non-calls are all over the board. Michigan's flexes were very brief and less pronounced than previously.
November 24th, 2019 at 7:57 AM ^
Black was flagged for tossing the ball, not for flexing.
November 24th, 2019 at 7:59 AM ^
This group of refs were figuring things out as they went along.
November 24th, 2019 at 8:25 AM ^
I feel like this is normal after an official’s conference to call intentional grounding.
November 24th, 2019 at 8:36 AM ^
The call was normal, the way he “threw” the flag was not.. lol
November 24th, 2019 at 9:44 AM ^
There was a grounding in the PSU/Minnesota game a few weeks ago - where the ref did the exact same thing.
November 24th, 2019 at 8:38 AM ^
No flags because they didn’t “delay the game” while flexing and walking with the ball.
November 24th, 2019 at 8:49 AM ^
I may be wrong but I believe he got the flag against state for flipping the ball somewhat at the MSU defender. Don’t think it was intentional but in the replay it looks like the db was right where he tossed it
November 24th, 2019 at 8:57 AM ^
Those three receivers flexed so much I almost wonder if harbaugh reaches out to the refs for clarity and told the guys exactly how they can do it to not get flagged.
November 24th, 2019 at 9:03 AM ^
I'm glad you posted this.
I'm very upset with the Refs this year against Michigan.
It is at an all-time high level of bias -- it is quite unbelievable.
For 10 damn years, staee w Mork has been able to basically do a fire-dance at mid-field on any victory they got against anybody .... under the guise of "toughness".
Now that we're 'tougher' - - we don't get to have nice things?
This is bullshit.
Eye gouge? Too soon?
How about the bullshit ticky-tack pass interference calls against our defense yet msu, psu and osu MUG the WR's they play against and "that's just good defense" -- Kirk Herbstreit.
GAH.
Go Blue!
November 24th, 2019 at 9:12 AM ^
Don’t flex, don’t worry about flags. Seems easy enough.
It was a rivalry game.
November 24th, 2019 at 9:32 AM ^
I believe that, in the MSU game, they were trying to get some of the emotion out of the game, or so it looked to me. Granted, calling it unsportsmanlike conduct was utterly ridiculous, IMHO, but I think that was their intent. Like most rules subject to some interpretation, I think that yesterday the bar might have been, say, public urination.
November 24th, 2019 at 9:59 AM ^
Someone needs to turn this into a T-shirt
November 24th, 2019 at 10:49 AM ^
He was called last week because he didn’t immediately give the ball to the ref.
the flexing was inconsequential or so they claimed.
