What about it?

The DL coach under the end of Carr was Steve Stripling, who was also the DL coach/AHC at Cincy and currently Tennessee.  He's a Butch Jones bud, and Butch Jones is a pretty good coach.

Regarding the rest of the staff, yes, English didn't adjust, and DeBord is DeBord.

But remember, he had Soup Campbell, who was a very good WR coach, and Andy Moeller, who is curently an NFL OL coach.  Fred Jackson was there for all three coaches you named.  Scott Loeffler has been a QB coach/OC beyond Michigan.

as well, at least on 1 or more publications.  Stephen Schilling wasn't bad either, and neither was Shazor, even though his hype exceeded his on field play, he was still good, and so was Gabe Watson.  Again, not great, but pretty good.

Think the peformance of Derrick Green(to this point) and Will Campbell are painting the picture a little darker than it actually is, being they are the most recent(besides Peppers, who we haven't really seen yet).

That said, it would certainly be nice to have a bigger sample size(more 5*'s), and I think once Harbaugh gets the train rolling we'll get to see that, he's got a great shot at both Gary and Caleb Kelly, has gotten Bredeson, who's not a 5* anywhere, yet is somehow a composite 5*, and he's only just getting started.

going into their junior and redshirt junior years.  Others suffered injuries (e.g. Pip).  I think some of these guys are going to come into their own this year.  Peppers, Green, Isaac, Harris, Morris, Kalis, Cole...  They might not have proven themselves yet (with the exception of Cole), but they are not busts yet either.

Here is another thing that is different:  Thanks to the much maligned Rutgers and Maryland, we play in his home area every single year.  And Penn State is in the area too.

Makes Momma happy.  And when Momma's happy, everybody happy.

The closest Alabama plays is in Kentucky.

Not that Rashan, the #1 DT in the nation would be scared about competition for playing time, but here's another difference: Looking at Bama's 247 commit lists, they took 4 DT's in 2014, 2 DT's in 2015 and already have 2 DT's in this class. Looking at Hand's situation, again, according to 247, Bama took no SDE in 2012 or 2013, the two years before Hand's class. They took one other SDE in 2014, but that was after Hand had already committed. The take away being, the road for playing time for Hand was much more clear than it will be for Gary. Additionally, Hand was much more of a necessity to Bama than Gary is because of the relative numbers they brought in at the respective positions in the years preceding each recruit.

I am trying to forget Hand. Some guy wrote on the thread for Kareem to be wary for any 'croot we are in a final grouping with Bama with and/or has been a lean for months but doesnt commit.  So I am sticking to that advice.  Esp with the way things are dealt with in the south.  If its Bama AND Auburn you just have a pure on bidding war.

"Some guy" reporting in.

I have several recruiting heuristics.  Those are my two favorite, and I've found that they're right more often than not.

I should note that the Alabama rule only applies in a situation where we're School A is in a "top two" with Alabama.  I don't doubt that many schools get many recruits with Alabama offers all the time.  But if you're in a hat dance with a kid along with Alabama...

Sounds like OSU probably just gave their usual recruiting pitch, which of course includes next to nothing about academics.

And chances are that wouldn't have gone over too well with mom.
