List of most hyped moments of 42-27

Submitted by Bo Harbaugh on July 17th, 2022 at 2:47 PM

Am I beating a dead horse here?, absolutely.

Have I watched the UM-OSU game way too many times this offseason - indeed, an unhealthy amount.

That said, the joy of that wonderous, cathartic, glorious day seems to never diminish, probably because it's been such a long time coming.  The atmosphere was absolutely lit, and it was a glorious, day.  That said, I've tried to list the moments from the game that gave me the most joy/dopamine hits.  A combo of the moment, the play and the crowd reaction/frenzy seems to be the best way for me to index.  Share your favorite moments as you please. Below is my list.

1) Haskins leap over Cam Brown - Nail in the coffin on the same sore loser that ripped of Wilson helmet

2) O-JA-BO - The call, the finality, the Lebron walk, the crowd.

3) Flea-Flicker to Sanristil, great call, OSU out of sorts, crowd was already in a frenzy from...

4) McCarthy to Wilson - the changeup, going for the kill, not playing conservative, great play call

5) Corum gashing OSU - First for 10 yards, then for 50+ right up the gut - 2nd half momentum

6) Josh Ross tfl - Turning point in the game imo, 3 and out for OSU to start the 2nd half

7) McNamara to C. Johnson - Perfectly thrown fade to retake momentum after OSU took a 10-7 lead

8) Hutchinson sacks Stroud in the 3rd - Continues momentum, "brings the pain", OSU punts

9) Haskins follow All into the endzone - Physical domination, edge blocked, Obvious OSU cant stop run

10) Hutchinson sack on Stroud in first quarter - Preserved the early lead, forced field goal

Haskins hurdling the final fool, simultaneously overcoming my BPONE.

I may or may not have cried from that point until "O-ja-BO!". At which point I laughed with the unrestrained, exuberant joy of a starving man given food for the first time in forever. And then laugh-cried at the field storming and ESPN team gushing about how wonderful the atmosphere was.

Had a nasty case of 100% BPONE at halftime, and spent most of it convincing myself I really didn't care/it had been a great run/Ohio cheats/Christmas is right around the corner. Went to get some free Absopure water near end of 1st half with my son,  and 2 nephews. Yes, I'm that maniacal fan who just can't stand the pain sometimes and didn't mind missing Ohio scoring the inevitable go ahead touchdown. There are those monitors showing the game at all the concession stands, so we were watching Ohio march, and at 3rd and 2 I reached for some free water when I heard the ROAR from the stadium. One of my nephews turned to me and said "that doesn't sound like they scored. Ran over to the concession stand to watch Josh Ross just LIGHT up Henderson. Floated/skipped back to my seat and was met with a new best friend next to me who screamed "dare to believe!!!"
It was like seeing proof that Santa truly existed. Which apparently he does, residing in a beautiful white house on South University Avenue right by the UGLI.

The McNamara to Johnson bomb may have been a TD if Johnson had run a straight ahead path. But he went slightly to his right after he beat the DB, then had to come back to the ball.. With a straight path the ball may have hit him in stride and he may have continued into the end zone on his feet. It was a picture perfect throw from Cade McNamara. You can see it in the video. Great moment to re-live, from a great angle.

Yeah, he had some pinpoint beautiful throws last season. You can see the gorgeous TD to Roman Wilson in the Penn St game starting at 14:33 of this highlight video. One of the most accurate throws I've ever seen. I remember Dan Marino used to hit receivers in stride like this a lot.

This.

I've re-lived the moments in my mind daily since then.

For me, the joy of the crowd singing "Pump it Up" made for exuberance & energy.

It was not just a football game, it was cathartic rejoice of who we are and what we represent.

Go Blue.

Very early moments that set the tone:

Haskins first long run on 3rd down.

Statue of Liberty for the first TD.

The noise that caused Stroud to not be ready for the first snap.

The first TD.

The end-around to Henning was a thing of beauty by Gattis.

And what a lot of folks don't realize is that it was a tendency buster. We set that up from literally the first TD of the year (a swing pass to Blake Corum).

Over and over we would swing it out to Corum or Edwards and get them on the edge. To fake that pass and hand it to Henning was genius. It had everyone fooled for a walk in TD.

I went back and watched every game of last season (except Georgia and the 4th quarter of MSU)...I counted at least 4 times we swung it out to the back for a big gain.

It was especially genius because of what Edwards did the week before vs Maryland. It was on tape, and Edwards was going to be a point of focus. Gattis waited for the best moment to unleash that.

I think we could see some pretty good things out of AJ this fall as well

McCarthy's pass was a thing of beauty. Perfect throw.

Also Donovan Edwards and the one handed grab and run.

Also Vastardis catching OSU for free plays and aggressively pointing at the offender.

Also the snow.

Also Joel Klatt and everyone on the FOX set calling it the best atmosphere they've ever experienced in college football.

...in so many ways, that was THE perfect game. The only other game I can think of where EVERYTHING aligned perfectly? UTL 1.

First night game, comeback, huge plays, custom unis, record performance, maize pom poms...it was also just everything coming together.

I guess if I needed one for our other rival, MSU, I'd go Braylonfest. But truthfully, MSU shouldn't have been in that game like they were. My perfect game for them would be beating the dog shit out of them, like the NIU game last year, go like 8 for 8 touchdowns on the first 8 drives and don't allow a point. Or the Rutgers game. Do that to Tuck and co.

is that even possible, or do I have issues?

I have to go with the Corum gash for 50, as much as I loved every other moment. When that run happened, I knew Michigan was going to win. It was obvious they had both the game plan and the momentum/tenacity on their side.

What a beautiful day it was

Good thread, I'll start.

1. Statue of Liberty (1st TD). Got on the board early and the special call/solid execution made it feel different. You knew the team was ready when they pulled that one out.

2. McNamara to Cornelius Johnson. We had to throw a bit to win the game and when called upon early, McNamara threw a perfect pass.

3. Hutch first sack to hold OSU to a FG.

4. McCarthy pass to Wilson? Just felt like everything was going right at this point.

5. Corum up the middle. Holy shit they can't stop Michigan.

6. Haskin's TD #4. They gave up. (Not number 5. Watch TD number 4 and OSU had already quit)

While I was watching the game, number 1 was definitely my number 1.

Viewing the game retrospectively, number 9 is my number 1. Didn't realize it during the first watch with all the excitement and adrenaline going, but it was at that moment it truly hit home that OSUs D would've had a better chance trying to stop an actual freight train that day (so long as they tried to stop it like 300 miles south where it likely wouldn't have been snowing).

Haskins once in a while will kneel after a run and stay there a good 5 seconds, maybe saying, I just did some work, let me stop and appreciate it.  It’s usually after a TD, but in the Game, it was somewhere around mid-field in the 2nd half.  A Hassan signature in what was a huge game for him.

It was the first play of the last scoring drive consisting of 5 plays, all Haskins runs.  This was a 15 yard run, breaking a tackle, then dragging Hickman about 4 yards. The kneel was about 2 seconds as Vastardis came over and tapped him, possibly wanting to avoid any chance of a taunting call.  Ya never know with refs.

Early in the 2nd qt ,  3rd and 9. Mike Morris tipped ball. without that tip it was more than likely going be a 1st down. Harbaugh was fired up!

I live near a Columbus area elementary school and it's part of where I walk my fur babies.  Last month when school let out they left out a bunch of chalk for the kids to draw pictures on the sidewalk...

That being said, there is no indisputable evidence linking me to the maize and blue block M with "42-27" scrawled on the schoolyard.

Agreed with everyone who said #6 needs to move up.  For me, it was #1.  After a disastrous start that should have been worse for them, OSU had reclaimed momentum in the 2nd quarter and looked certain to score on their first drive of the 2nd half in my BPONE frame of mind.  That individual effort by Ross was the most significant play of the game IMO.  They seemed to have that play blocked well enough to get the 1st down until he exploded into the backfield.  After that, we took off and never looked back.

The flea-flicker to Sainristil, for me, was the eureka holy-shit-we-might-actually-do-it moment of the game.
The hurdle of Cam Brown was the misty-eyed, weight-of-the-world-off-my-shoulders, we-actually-fucking-did-it moment. There was no way we weren’t going to score to go up 15 with ~2 minutes left.

Random moments:

The snow when we needed it most.

Charles singing The Victors on Fox Big Noon Kickoff show.

Mr. Brightside.

The angry looking all-blue unis.

The entire field filed with people after the game.
