Lebanon & Youssef Khayat beat China: on to FIBA Asia Cup Semi's
I just saw that Lebanon, current team of Michigan basketball recruit Youssef Khayat, beat China today, and is headed on to the FIBA Asia Cup Semifinals.
Of course we want Khayat to get to Ann Arbor and to join the Michigan basketball team as soon as possible. Still, continuing to play and to compete is a good thing. And Khayat seems to be doing very well.
GOOD anytime one of the Axis of EVIL China,Russia, Iran, N Korea loses is a good day
Far more polite than my first thought.
I'd probably swap Iran w/ Saudi Arabia, but good enough.
Throw in Ohio St.
DUH How could I have left Olieo St out of the Axis of EVIL mix..my bad
Don’t forget the “THE” or they will get their panties in a bunch.
Thanks for the link. Very excited for this young man and his great attitude towards Michigan.
I’m glad he will join the team before their three exhibition games in Europe.
great find. i am so delightfully tickled to find that they are the Cedars.
Cedars is indeed a great team name. Interestingly, the Cedars (of Lebanon) also beat the "Tall Blacks" of New Zealand. I wonder how the "Tall Blacks" would be received as a team name in the States. Possibly not very well?
You are probably right--it would not go over well.
It is a pun on the nickname of the national rugby team, the All Blacks, which is probably New Zealand's most prominent national team (at least historically). The likely apocryphal story of the origin of the name is that it comes from a typo in a news story in the early 20th century where a player had described the team as being "All Backs." It more likely comes from the design of their kit. Regardless, the name dates back to at least 1905.
Nice! Little ‘ol Lebanon with population ~5.5 million just went back to back against the 2 most populated countries in the world and won.
I think this dude is gonna be a star in the Big Ten. He does so much well.
