Wow. Bad for Ole Miss.

I'm a bit mixed on the issue for Tunsil. This is one situation where I actually can believe he was hacked--no one is stupid enough to post that stuff on their own.

So this appears to be character assassination.

Now, there are some people on this board who will say, "I don't care about weed, it's NBD." I am not one of those people. I think it's serious.

Tunsil has apparently copped to the video but says it was from years ago. I can say this: it wasn't from this afternoon. So if he did it, dumb move. Not pleased with it. But, uh, he wouldn't be the only one getting drafted today.

So what we have here is a character assassination. Mean-spirited and vengeful. Someone (we can guess it is his stepdad) is trying to hurt him on what should be a good night for him.

And I'm not cool with that at all. Tunsil may or may not have character issues, but this is wrong and I feel bad for him.

You probably don't want to get into my theological views on this, and this is certainly not the place. The point of establishing my view it to clarify that I'm not a huge fan of his alleged behavior, but that to me this is still an ugly act against him.

None of us here want our worst private moments broadcast to the world at a time we are supposed to be excited. I don't wish it on anybody.

I'm just curious--you're opposition to smoking weed is theologically based? Do you mind elaborating? Is it a particular religious faith? Is it a specific injunction against pot, or a more general opposition to practices that may harm the body? I don't have strong feelings either way, but I hadn't really thought of a religious objection.

I wasn't the one pulling him off of my draft board like the Baltimore Ravens. "Might" means that he may and he may not, and suggests that the evidence doesn't really tell us what we need to know. Perhaps read the post without beng predisposed to interpret my motives in the worst possible light.

I don't really care what the Baltimore Ravens did. Second, everybody "may or may not" have character issues. You could literally say that about every person in the world, and then say, "the evidence doesn't really tell us what we need to know".

But you brought up smoking weed and then mentioned how he might have character issues. Tacking on "oh but he might not" is just a cop out

No, it's not. I said in the original post you are critiquing that he "may or may not" have character issues. You've taken issue with that. But you said yourself that EVERYBODY may or may not have character issues, which is kind of my point. I did not say he "definitely" has character issues and my main point is that this is mostly just a terrible event for him.

I brought up smoking weed to illustrate that my opinion of this is not shaped by my endorsement of weed but by my repulsion toward someone trying to harm someone else.

You seem to think that my negative opinion toward marijuana means that I condemn him as a person and/or player. But that comes from a prejudicially false view that someone cannot disagree with an aspect of a person's behavior (present or, as this may be, past) without writing them off entirely.

And that's rather shortsighted.

I suspect that some players I root for engage in activity similar to this and to other areas of human behavior that I have moral views about. This does not stop me from rooting for them or from liking them. Were they to seek my guidance in the wider scope of life, I would advise them (if they were engaged in such activities) that they could make better choices.

But I am not in that position and have no desire to force them into putting me or someone like me into that position. Holding views on certain areas of morality is not at all the same as advocating for those views to be enforced on all people, nor do those views require someone to agree and uphold in all areas to be accepted or "liked."

I don't agree with the behavior depicted in the video. Whether it is a character issue that would affect one's job as a football player or not (if it is a young guy being stupid months or years ago, not really; if it was filmed last week, it would suggest a Johnny Manziel-style impulse problem. I have no reason not to believe his assertion that it was old) cannot be determined from the video and I never claimed that it could be.

Long ago you jumped the shark from internet message board poser into "Extremely self important trying to be thoughtful but just look absurdly self aggrandizing" message board poser.

You and LSA (whatever year he pretends to have been at Michigan) need to get a room

When I was 18 and entering college I didn't FEEL like an adult. I didn't exactly feel like a ten year old asking my mom for lunch money but I also didn't feel like a bill-paying, taxable member of society either. The experience of an 18 year-old freely entering college and an 18 year-old entering the armed services or workforce are completely different. Their 21's will be polar opposites.

Adulthood isn't necessarily about
the legal age to buy cigarettes. It's about your experiences and immediate responsibilities. Even at 21 years of age, if your experience is simply "play football and party", you're still mentally a "kid". If you're busting your ass and working while attending school and raising a family, your priorities will be different. I'm not excusing what he did or didn't do. I'm just saying that age ain't nothing but a number to a lot of people with different values than ours.

Can't use the same password for everything. I mean I do because no one cares enough to try to make me look bad on Facebook to my grandma. But as a pro prospect.. I would have that shit locked down.

Tunsil's stepdad may be a scumbag, but Tunsil screwed himself by allowing to have a video of himself taken smoking weed. I don't think weed is all that bad, but you have to know that posting a video like that is going to be a huge red flag to NFL teams. Why even bother putting yourself in the situation when you're waiting on a big payday?

To me it's not even about the weed. It's about a complete lack of common sense.

The issue NFL teams have is whether or not the kid will play on Sundays. Can he pass his drug tests and avoid suspension? See Josh Gordon and more locally for me was Tanard Jackson who was a very hard hitting S for the Bucs. He kept getting suspended because he couldn't stop smoking weed for a couple months a year.  The team had to cut him because he could not be trusted and could not be reiled upon to be in the lineup each week.
