CFP committee members are momos.  Their logic is very weak.  Many people calling them out on it (outside the SEC).  If they have 2+ SEC teams in the finals they can have the ratings, which I can guarantee will be low above the mason Dixie line.

Clemson is getting the benefit of the doubt from the committee (like Alabama) because of their multiple CFP appearances and  '16 and '18 titles.

SP+ says Michigan would be favored by 10 over Clemson on a neutral site.

TCU has a bigger gripe than we do, in my opinion.

The pecking order for the final Playoff standings will be, just like always:

1) SEC Champ

2) Big Ten Champ

3) Undefeated P5 Conference Champ

4) 1-Loss P5 Conference Champ

5) 1-Loss P5 At-Large

6) Undefeated G5

First, I love what a homer Joel Klatt is for us, basically. But he doesn't polish any turds, and like others have said, the stats back up what he's saying -- or he wouldn't be saying it.

Second, I don't really subscribe to any 4-team playoff that leaves out a conference champion in place of a team that didn't. The top two teams of a single conference may very well be the top two teams in the country, but the argument between the two was already played out in-conference. Same goes for Michigan-Ohio State.

Agree 100%

Conference champs only until expansion takes place. Even then my idea is pretty radical. 10 spots go to the 10 conference champions (Power 5 and yes even the Group of 5). The last two spots are for the next two highest rated, including independents. People won't like my idea for Group of 5, and money will dictate it won't happen, but this would give the first round "fodder" for the legit teams and it drums up NATIONAL excitement instead of seeing the same damn teams every year. Year after year.

Agree, but one of the things I like about the Bball tourney is everyone is represented. Yes maybe the Big 10 gets 8 teams in and the SWAC or Ivy only gets one, but everyone is represented. In football, there is no way they will use my idea and the playoffs will never represent all of football. OK if money dictates otherwise, then expand it even further. Let the lower conferences (Group of 5) have a play in game starting after thanks giving and give the winner of that mini-tournament the #12 seed.

Glad Fox is stumping for the B10 since ESPN does it for the SEC.  I was going to vent about Clemson and I do agree they are over-rated, but their schedule is better than ours at the moment.

A bigger gripe is how Alabama got to be where they are.  If they were wearing any other jersey would they be in the top-8?  They have a loss to Tenn, they should have lost to a bad A&M team, and they nearly lost to a mediocre Texas team who was playing their backup QB.  How is that a resume of a top-6 team?

Recency Bias has a lot to do with Clemson hanging around. They are just assumed to be a top 3 team with 2 SEC schools. That’s the way it’s been for 10 years and why should objective data change that opinion? It’s Bama, UGA, Clem as a permanent top 3 forever and ever…sigh. Thank god for the expansion so we can settle this on the field now.

Lots of great points and counterpoints being made on this thread. But with only 4 playoff spots, there is a very simple and obvious solution.

You must win your conference to be eligible. No exceptions.

There are 5 Power 5 conferences fighting for 4 spots. So we are already leaving one major conference out. This rule could also still allow for a Group of 5 conference champ to get a spot in the rare year that one of them has an amazing season and is ranked highly (was it UCF that went undefeated including a win over Auburn?).

As far as independents, well you all made your bed, you get to lay in it. You don't like it? Tough, join a conference. Besides..... "To hell with Notre Dame".

I just can't for the life of me understand why the CFP committee would year after year pick two SEC teams and shun two other conference champs. A lot of people say "they had their chance" and I agree with that sentiment.

Of course all of this is moot once they expand to 12. And being 13 on the outside looking in is a LOT different than being 5 looking at 4.

Obviously we are better than Clemson.  Except in name, where that counts abt +100 in the voting.

Good news is, we gotta play OSU and GA has to play TN.  Of course, they can still find a way to keep us out.  But if we carry our own water, we'll be in.

While I don't think he's wrong, relationships being what they are he does have in interest in promoting the bigs 10 and 12.

Again, I think he's right and the SEC bias is far too long in the tooth.

Anyone who has watched Clemson this year knows they are pure shit.

They should have lost to Wake.

They struggled all game against NC State

They let FSU back into the game.

Clemson dominated 1 game -- BC.  Michigan has had 1 bad half this season against MD.

They are starting 4 true freshmen in the defensive backfield

Their QB sucks.

It’s pretty academic, isn’t it?  Win out and we are in. Lose to OSU and they are in and we are 95% likely out unless the game is fluky and a lot of other people lose too.

I'm way more aggravated by TCU being ranked below Bama than Michigan below Clemson. Michigan can beat OSU and get in assuming they don't lose another game along the way (and even if they did, they'd have a decent shot at making it with a little help). This ranking tells me that TCU could go undefeated and be ranked behind 2 SEC teams with one loss and no conference championship.

It’s all about setting the narrative/agenda up for later.

By putting Michigan at 5, they are essentially saying that barring massive chaos, Michigan needs to win out to get in.

By putting Clemson at 4, they’re setting them up to still make it in even if they trip up somewhere along the way. As long as it’s not more than once.

With Georgia and Tennessee where they are, it almost ensures they can continue the discussion of having two SEC teams in. Hell, their wet dream is a close UT/Georgia game on Saturday, the loser wins out to 11-1, and the winner loses to an 11-1 Alabama in the SEC title game. Then they have all the justification they need to put in three.

No need to plead to the committee when almost this entire board is saying

"Well of course a 1 loss Michigan is behind a 1 loss Bama, Georgia, or Tennessee"

We are actively willing to give up a mulligan to any and all SEC teams but not our own after maybe a close loss on the road to #1/#2 team in the country.

Hell man we are doing the SEC's work for them. And why?

Because the OOC of CSU and Hawaii was worse than Gtech LaTech?
